Just like me 😆. I found out how just 2 of them can wipe out an entire Chaos army after the rest of mine got wiped out. Between that and spamming regular Outriders can handle just about anything in the game.
The AI spamming grenade outriders because of LoTW I bet. Jokes aside, it makes sense. If you know you're facing the hordes of Chaos that are well-known for scary big armored melee guys, the logical answer is keeping far away from them while lobbing grenades at them.

Especially the amethyst outriders, they are awesome, I love them. Normal grenade launchers are already really good, but amethyst version are much stronger and can even act like shock cavalry after upgrading them. They have to be my favorite unit in the game
@@quint3ssent1a It's not really that big of a deal for what they offer. They absolutely shreds most infantry, and the AI don't often recruit high tier units with high armor anyway. You can use outriders or other gunpower units for armor piercing. And also the states troops version, bordermen, do have armor piercing and they are really good
This one was actually really impressive, you made that look really easy but that required a ton of micro to keep them all from shooting and eventually wrap around them. That could easily have gone south. A lot of the time you cheese the ai (which of course is needed in these disaster battles, not hating) but this one was just really clean and impressive micro.
@@shadowstep1375 well the issues with cheesing is mainly with the stupid AI. I remember a vid where legend have some steam tank against a norsca stack and the enemies literally just stand still and get shot by the steam tank. Exploiting the AI is alright but sometimes they just feels way too dumb.
@@shadowstep1375 There's a difference between "cheese" that's really just optimal planning, and CHEESE that exploits the AI to an absurd degree. Forcing the AI into an unwinnable position because their commander was gullible, that's fun for the most part. What isn't fun, is coming against a billion Warplock Jezzails and using a couple of flying units to waste all their ammo before going in for the final kill. Or baiting the entire enemy's army into attacking 2 heroes and a LL while a bunch of guarded missile units and some magic absolutely nuke them.
@@Supercohboy I never claimed it was fun. You know what else isn't fun though? Getting attacked by 20 armies a round because the AI is also able to build them faster and cheaper than you at a base.

Half the time the AI just knows where my hidden troops are on heavily forested maps and go straight towards them with zero subtlety. No foreplay, no lube, not even a little porn acting from them, just immediately going in.
Some disaster battles that Legend does I figure I could manage, but my micro skills are not nearly enough to keep up with this chaotic mess. Very impressive

You'll see more or less powerful armies depending on the faction, but on Very Hard and Legendary the AI definitely brings out the big guns if they're feeling up to it. It's still kinda random. I'm seeing about 2 mediocre/bad armies for every 1 good/great army on my latest campaigns.

That's funny. In yesterday's video against vampires you said you have never seen the ai merge units, and here we are the next day, and the ai merged units.
At least with the empire garrison i could defeat 1 to 2 stacks of some armies. So not every garrison only settlement battle is unwinable. Getting every unit to get 300+ kills is quite satisfying. Btw I once had the AI recruit an army of nothing but mortars.
That's because they are pure anti-infantry units. Any decent cavalry unit, monstrous infantry unit, monstrous cavalry unit, single entity monster and/or flying unit makes mincemeat of them, even something as low-tier as bats and wolves can put the hurt on them. But if you have big swarms of heavily armored infantry... oh boy the grenade outriders kick ass. Stay out of range of the infantry and you will easily get 200+ kills with each one of them, depending of course on what you're fighting
@@the_tactician9858 For me it's the 'arming' time, they have to spend like 3 seconds after stopping before releasing their rounds, giving most ranged units time to hose them down before they can volley.
@@Taskuli12 depends on what army comp you're using, these guys can still have a lot of value. Like grenade launcher and outrider cav based army is very strong since you can get them fairly early and they hold up well against a lot of low mid tier enemies. They can also works in tandem with hellstorm rocket battery as they have high speed and can derp out enemies formation, buying time for the battery to shoot which is very crucial since empire infantry is garbage.
Warhammer is a gunpowder total war masquerading as an everything Total War. Your Empire armies should look like Fall of the Samurai armies, not Medieval 2 armies.
Don't mean to be THAT guy but this wasn't a disaster battle. Definitely annoying though. If it was Festus you could get a ton of missile resistance plus plague missile resistance which would help massively.
I'm glad this was covered because in my campaigns the Empire has been spamming grenade launchers more and more.
In my Vilitch campaign got a few armies with around 5 Steam Tanks + 5 Boats... Empire nowadays is a pain in the ass to deal with.

Watching at 2x speed for these disaster battles is a lot of fun. It feels like more of a disaster battle with how fast he’s talking and clicking

I personally don’t see why anyone would have issues with cheesing things, if you are outmatched in skill or power you need tactics to beat the odds.
