When VAs do their due diligence and realize how prejudiced fandoms can be against a character. Personally I always liked Sukuna, and Suwabe did a great job voicing him.
This is why Seiyuu preform alot better, no hate on other dubs because there exist very good VA that have the talent and passion and it shows in their work but they are far inbetween compared to the many seiyuu who put alot in their work as its their livelihood over in Japan ❤ JJK definitely has had some good rep pros for sure Also its interesting see both sides, one who does reasearch and uses that image Gege and fans hold as well as his own and applying it to his vision of the characters. Its the opposite for Nakamura iirc in which the better he know less of the character the easier it is to not project other peoples ideas of the said characters or his own on to his performance, ofc besides the direction he is guided on.
I don’t think it’s just Japanese VA. But eastern voice acting in general. For example, Chinese voice acting for genshin impact is phenomenal! If western voice acting agencies/ western licensing agencies for anime cared or valued the work the same way the eastern side does for their anime industry, dubs would be up there too. I think you just need to give it some more time. Anime is becoming more mainstream and with that, gives opportunity for progress in that department. I think the stage we are at now with regards to English dubs is just them giving the character a voice in English, vs telling the stories of the characters with said voice in English in comparison to Japanese VA who put a lot of that emotion and effort into telling the story of the character instead of just reading lines off the paper like a lot of dubs sound like if that makes sense. A great example of where this ain’t the case in English dub is Panty and stocking English dub.is AMAZING because the VA’s actually put effort into acting and telling the stories of these the characters in english. There’s a lot of phenomenal English (and other languages) voice actors out there that don’t get to be casted in big dub roles because whoever got the go ahead to officially dub the anime wants to use generic mc voice person that has been casted in a ton of dubs already with little to no range or variation.. as opposed to Japanese VA’s which is what sets them apart in that regard.
@@ca678.4 yes and to add on to that: the pay for doing anime dubs is awful, so most voice actors seek work elsewhere. anime dub vas are basically only doing what they do because they're passionate about it. I've also heard that they have to cold read their lines sometimes (so they are recording their first readings of the script), they're always recording alone (don't get to act/rehearse with the other voice actors), and there's always the difficulty of matching the mouth movements in the animation. I hope that the industry can stop exploiting voice actors so that we can cultivate a better environment for improving/growing talents. But people who are fans of english dubs generally enjoy the quality of work as is, and companies see that and take advantage of it. And then there's the issue of the general public viewing animation as mostly a thing "for kids," but I don't want to continue typing forever. Argh. It's frustrating. I do agree with the opinion that dub actors use the same voice for like... a lot of their roles. I feel like it's especially bad with male voice actors. I find most eng dubs painful to listen to, but for a lot of people they emotionally connect more with characters/stories they understand the language of. or there's the matter of accessibility and some people struggle reading subtitles. honestly really admire him and seiyuus in general! i stay up to date on Suwabe-san's tweets, and some of them were life reflections, which I always enjoyed reading 😊 he just seems like a very passionate person and we can totally see that in his works ❤
This prompted me to look up his other work... From anime I have seen he was Grimmjow in Bleach, Takashi in HOTD, Archer in Fate/stay Night.. just to name a few.
