    In this video I go over what to look for brake wise on the older Ford Escapes. This is becoming a very common occurrence when I inspect vehicles that come into the dealership. While this shouldn't be a problem it is and I don't see Ford doing anything about it. So it is up to you the owner to inspect or get them inspected as shown and make sure the lines are not going to rupture on a hard stop.

    Just replaced this hose today .2005 escape 240,000 miles. Hose just blew out of nowhere. Luckily no one got hurt. The nut size is 13m on the nut by the frame and 14m on the nut at the caliper. Going to check the rest of the hoses tomorrow and bleed it. Great video.

    Front passenger side blew out on my '04 (120k miles) a few days ago as I was coming to a stop at a light. Almost hit the car in front of me but was able to stop literally an inch from the other car. Replaced both front lines and will replace the rears soon.

    This happened tonight on my wife's 06' Escape. She was in the drive through getting coffee and hit the brakes at the window and the pedal went to the floor. Luckily no one was in front of her or was not on the highway. Could have been a really bad situation. The front passenger line blew. This is our second Escape and our last! We have had nothing but problems with these things from seized rear wiper motors to crack tone rings.

      THETOPGLOCK That's weird you say that because we always regarded the escapes and fusions to be among the most reliable in the Ford line up we never see them in the shop until the new ones of course.

    I noticed some pretty nice splits in my '03 front hoses just about a year ago. Well, today I was flushing the trans and power braking it and I suddenly felt a pop and the pedal instantly went to the floor. I knew it was coming, I'm just a procrastinator. The point I'm trying to make is, if you do notice splits in your hoses, it's probably best to fix them as soon as possible and don't keep putting it off like I did. I'm lucky I was servicing the vehicle and not out on the road.

    Just had the line break on the front passenger side of our 2005 escape.. line severely cracked and leaking

    The other 3 hoses looked to be in bad shape but not leaking yet so I just replaced them all. If you have a escape check your hoses.

    Its great to show this video. I just found out my front break line was leaking as was coming to an exit off the highway. I have 2006 ford escape with 130,000 miles. With leaking break lines you have pretty much no breaks. I had to constantly pump the brakes all the way down to the floor board... Luckly there was enough fluid to make it slow down.

    My parents escape is a 2007 ford escape xlt we just had our third brake line break. This time it was the rear. Luckily in all three cases my mom and brother made it safe to where they were going. If you own a ford escape check your lines.

    I came across this when trying to learn why my tribute is swerving to the right on breaking. Well I appreciate the video, I am distraught to think that someone will buy that car for their wife or son or daughter or themselves and the brakes will fail and someone will be killed because a known problem was traded in without disclosing the problem... Which you have to surmise is the message of not repairing it this time because it is being traded in. Really?

    Brake line just failed on my wife Ford Escape today drivers side, brake fluid is everywhere. Passenger side is cracked very bad and I will definitely need to replace that one as well. Never have I ever had a brake line to fail on any of my vehicles before. I have over 200,000 miles on my Trailblazer now, over 300,000 on my LS 400, had over 200,000 on my Camry, Nearly 200,000 on Acura Legend, none ever had splits in the brake lines. PCM also failed at 100,000 miles on this Escape. Never had any other vehicle with that problem either. My Camry had an ignition coil go bad, but it didn't burn out the PCM like the Escapes do. Is this Escape a junkmobile? It's about 125,000 miles on it.

    This is disquieting! My daughter is away at grad school and drives an '05 Escape XLT with over 170K on the odo. Is this condition prevalent across the Escape productline? What percentage of the vehicles are affected? I've recently been considering getting a used Escape, but this situation has me doubting the advisability of doing so. Naturally, now I'm concerned about my daughter's safety!!

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  8 лет назад

      I would say this concern is common on all Escapes up until 2004. If her hoses are smooth they are the faulty style is they are ribbed there should be no problems.

      Thanks for the fast, professional response, which, in the course of reading it, left me wondering why -- since they've been in the automobile business since they were hand-built in Henry Ford's shop -- Ford hadn't already recognized the benefit of accordion-type hoses over stressed smooth ones. Go figure.

    FordTechMakuloco I know that this not an instructional video on how to repair the hose, however I was wondering if you could provide me with the nut sizes to I can try tackling this job without stripping anything. Thanks a lot.

      nin198520 I don't have one here currently but allot of brake line fittings are standard not metric as the rerst of the truck is. These actually come off pretty easy. Clean the rust off ands size it up tight.

    My 2003 Escape with 165K miles just blew a line (front left) like this on Saturday. Luckily, I noticed the issue before I got out of the parking lot I was in.

    I hate to say it but that almost looks like recall materiel to me. Especially when it is prone to one type of automobile. Looking at my Focus as it only has a reservoir where do they work out the dual cylinders? Never thought about it till now...

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 лет назад

      Oh the master cylinder is down in there, the focus uses diagonal hydraulic system.

      Yeah that was dumb on my part, I thought about it later. That res is just a feed to the master cylinder.

    My line on my 2004 Escape split after dropping a friend off at his house after a 10 hour trip through the mountains. If it had of split an hour sooner, I would not be here today. I had no idea something like this was possible.

    I just had this happen to me today at the ford dealership. they said it would cost about $700 to fix---is this correct or should I look for someone else to fix this

      You can have a regular shop do this type of work and use Wagner hoses they are high quality and cheap. Should be less than $350 total. I just put a set on a escape today. all the way around.

      I would say they would charge $25-$50 on the brake hose and we would charge 1hr labor to cover install and bleeding

    I just replaced all the lines and rear wheel cylinders, I can't get the rear right to bleed all of the air. I have tried for hours to bleed it gravity method and all. Do you have any ideas of what the problem might be? It is an 03 escape v6 4x4. Thanks!

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 лет назад

      Does your master cylinder have a bleeder on it like the newer ones? I had to bleed to master also after a brake flush went too low.

    • @The_Four_One_Six
      @The_Four_One_Six 10 лет назад

      FordTechMakuloco
      No bleeder screw, older master. I might try bleeding it from the the lines. I don't have the proper scanner to bleed the abs module. I'm kind of stuck and looking for ideas.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 лет назад

      You don't need a scanner for the abs module it bleeds right through. Your best bet is a vacuum bleeder from a place like harbor freight they work great as long as you have shop air.

      Age makes the rubber brittle and crack crumble and I am sure the winter cold does not help.

    Son of a bitch! wow i didnt expect that!
    and ye the coated brake lines seem to work very very well! i HATE replacing brake lines on 2003-2007 chev's they have them all bunch up near the EBCM on the left frame rail right beside the transfer case man the 2 rear lines can be a mofo to replace, the last set i did took me like 5 hours...

    • @FordTechMakuloco
