“I need to do some Hoover-ing ... very exciting .” Lady, we will gladly keep you company while you Hoover, because you are just that delightful ❤️😜 I’ve been reading lots of non fiction over the last month or so, and thus decided that I needed a bit of a fiction brake. So it’s “A Spy in Williamsburg” ( historical fiction from a series that I loved as a kid ) “The Lost Crown “ ( historical fiction for an adult market) and “Sarah” by Teri Polen ( a little YA horror, just to round things out 😜). I’ve never heard of Claire McGowen, but if you liked her that much, I have no choice but to give her a try

Fresh buns: with butter or butter like spread. Slightly older buns: toasted with aforementioned spreads with maybe honey. I have tried melting a square of Lindt chocolate inside a slightly old bun in the microwave. Delish! I have never had piping hot fresh buns! One day!

I always find it so interesting how the same foods can be so different around the world. Here on the East coast of Canada our hot cross buns don't have as much stuff in them (just raisins) and the crosses are made with icing added after they are baked. I suspect they are sweeter here. We eat them as a breakfast pastry.

I loved Passing and I love this cover. And I 100% agree that I really did get to know the characters a bit more, it felt like we had more time to get to know them. I also enjoyed it more than The Vanishing Half but I think that was expected, I tend to enjoy older books more. I want to hear Tessa Thompson narrate this book, she's one of the actresses in the upcoming film adaptation. Excited for that.
I am so jealous of your baking skills, in my next life I am definitely a baker... it's just not part of my journey in this lifetime. Those looked delicious.

I discovered hot-cross buns on my first visit to England in the very late 60’s when everything was still very traditional, so it’s butter for me. I’d love to try making them. With mince meat pies they are my favourite English pastries. A little disappointed with the crosses, I thought they were more fancy (and mysterious). Those you made look scrumptious! xx

I was just starting to read more in English and your recommendations helped! After the sad announcement that your health was deteriorating I stopped following your videos, because I couldn't bear thinking about what it means to a reader/writer to lose eyesight little by little. i just finished the book on 20th century Ceredigion poets, and someone I know has made me promise to read the autobiography of a funeral director and leant me it, so that's this year. Also managed the short story Pale Horse K A Porter on my quest to finish all the 1918 pandemic books. Oh, i read Partygoing. Frankly, there's Henry Green and there's everyone else. I can't help it. That writing. Oh. Plodding on through five spice street, which i find gripping, although it's nonsense (not in the 'Jilly Cooper is nonsense' sense but in the sense, gibberish). Goodreads reviews either say it's boring or it's great, but they don't say 'gripping gibberish', which is what you need to know! At this rate i'll be finished in two years time, i read some most weeks.
