Have you ever installed a wireless charging system in a car? I can imagine that with this head unit, it would be GREAT to have a Qi-wireless charging pad installed and perhaps hidden so it looks like part of the center console. This way you could get in.. Toss your new iPhone down, and charge and connect without thinking about it. The reason I say this is, if you still have to plug it in to charge it it sort of takes away from the convience of ...well, not, having to plug it in.

Any particular reason that the maestro rr wiring diagram says to specifically not plug the remote wire cable into the back of the remote wire port on pioneer units? Was wondering if I could just ignore that to retain my factory aux port.
Is there a way to get the rear speakers to work with a sub on the 4400? Long story short as to why I bought the 4400. I installed a backup cam that would only play in acc but not while running with my avh-4200nex. Pioneer told me something was wrong with my 4200. 2 weeks later after buying the 4400 with no backup cam resolution, I found out that all German cars power lights with a pulse, not direct current. I own a 2006 BMW X5. All I needed was a power filter/rectafier/capacitor and the cam worked fine. What was Pioneer thinking designing a system that only allows front speakers with a sub wired in? My BMW has 10 speakers and only half play with a sub turned on. Can I change a setting on the 4400, try to get Pioneer to swap units since they gave me bad information or sell it and put my 4200 back in? Pretty rediculaus for a $800 stereo to only use half the speakers with a sub turned on. I must be doing something wrong. If Pioneer will swap me head units, what one is as good or better than the avh-4200nex. Long question. I appreciate your time and the videos you post. I can't think of anyone else that is more knowledgeable about equipment.
So the 4200 plug will indeed plug into the 4400 just need to connect the VSS on the 4400 to something or is it not necessary to connect the VSS here in Florida not too many tunnels
300-400$ premium for a screen that should already be standard on ALL these head units?..hell no...I grow tired of these companies looking to nickel and dime the buying public for miniscule increases in features..or in the case of the 9905,a nice new screen...they should just include the screen on each new model and charge an extra 100 and be done with it...i dont know why im ranting on your comment
Nice video! I just had someone installed 4400nex on my 2015 camaro, but it lost the guide line and caution symbols for the back-up camera. I am wondering if there is a solution to bring them back or 4400nex just doesn't support that. Thanks!

Does the factory camera and factory steering wheel controls plug into this deck? Is there a built in XM tuner? Also is the XM antenna also a gps antenna or do you need 2 antennas?
Thanks for trying it without the GPS antenna and finding that it didn’t make a difference with regard to wireless CarPlay. My vehicle doesn’t have a speed sense wire either, so can you verify whether wireless CarPlay will work without speed sense connected? I’m looking to upgrade from a 4100NEX.

Any thoughts on the w4400nex versus the Kenwood DDX9705S? I'm having trouble deciding. The Kenwood has the capacitive touch screen but no wireless carplay (I'm Android anyway so that's not a big deal). They are about a 50 dollar difference. How do you feel about software update support and performance between the two?
Have you decided? If you want the phone like feel then captive is the way to go. I have the 4400 and still no firmware update. It's still too new so it will take time. I haven't had any issues yet. I'm Android so I need to see if wireless is available for the S8+.
@@AlfredoPachecoJr I decided on the DDX9705S. I LOVE IT. However wireless Android auto still needs some tweaking. Wired is way more reliable for now. I love capacitive. Just know that unless you get some sort of grease proof screen protector that you will want a good display towel or rag handy to wipe it clean. Also I much prefer the highest display brightness instead of auto adjust. Although at night it is almost too bright😂
They need to fix the bugs before moving onto the next. The dumb units like to not play any sound sometimes when you start your car. And to fix it you need to completely restart your car.
Hey guys, I just recently installed an avh-4200nex with the idatalink maestro Rr in my 2013 Silverado z71. I got a pretty good deal on Amazon, the 4200 was $459 USD, its been installed a couple weeks now and I got to say that I'm very happy with the headunit, replaced all the door speakers with 6.5" pioneer 4 ways and my new system sounds so much better then the stock system, I use android phones, currently using a galaxy s7 edge, I'm a little unhappy with the music app options in android auto, some of the apps have ad's and some times I have issues with changing tracks. Neither the steering wheel controls or the pioneer face buttons or the pioneer remote will change tracks, I haven't been able to narrow down the issue with this, but in thinking about just using android auto for calls and maps, and just using an SD card or a flash drive for music and videos. I don't think my issue is a problem with pioneer, I think it's an android auto issue, when it works 100% it's pretty sweet

I just swapped out my 4100NEX (with working bypass) for this 4400NEX and used the existing wiring harness. I think you mentioned the harness had changed with this new model. I didn't hook up VSS, but did attach the GPS antenna. I'm now getting a "System detected improper connection of Parking Brake lead" shortly after being in motion and my bypass switch doesn't do anything. Otherwise everything else works. Is this due to the wiring harness changing or could it be because the GPS antenna is hooked up? Trying to figure out would could be wrong before taking it all apart (I soldered and shrink wrapped for previous install)

So i just upgraded to the W4400nex. I installed the micro bypass and everything works with video playback. But when I start to drive, I get the warning on the screen and video playback stops. I’m thinking because I have the gps antenna connected. Any work around for this besides disconnecting it?
I figured it out. I updated the firmware to 1.01 and I did the factory video bypass trick by touching and holding at the lower left part of the screen until you see a message displaying “set on”. It’s been working flawless since then. Great videos BTW!!!!
I don’t know but I have it installed but now that I have the mic for the auto eq function, the selection for that is grayed out and I can’t do the auto eq setup
just had the 4400NEX installed yesterday...FYI... 1) fan is constantly on! Pioneer support said the 4201NEX does not have that issue! this was annoying as i went thru the feature set in the garage. cant hear it when driving or with music tho...just a fyi 2) parking assist guides cannot be adjusted in the 4400...they can in the 4201...per Pioneer support... both of these were disappointments for me! YMMV

I would like to purchase a new unit for my car. I can't decide which unit to go with between the Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX or the Kenwood DDX9905S. What do you recommend? I currently have a Pioneer AVIC-5000NEX in my car that I installed about 5 years ago. Also the Kenwood DDX9905S says that it has WiFi built in but what would this feature be used for? Thank you.
If you're an iPhone guy go for the Kenwood. If you're an android guy that's more up in the air--the biggest difference is the HD, capacitive screen on the Kenwood while the Pioneer has a standard definition (800x600), pressure screen. Great videos, I do have a question have you experienced playback issues with youtube and android auto? I have a pixel 1 and it works perfectly fine, however with my galaxy S9 the playback is speed up a little bit, enough that the audio doesnt play and you can see the video is moving faster than normal :(
Five Star Car Stereo so I can’t hook up the 4400 to the 4200 harness then I just had the 4200 in my car it died on me and now I have the 4400 coming on replacement, but the harness is from the 4200 still in my car and I don’t have any other harness? So it won’t work ?
Question for ya - I am in the process of doing my 2015 Tacoma and was set on the 4201NEX. According to Crutchfield the 4201nex fit my truck. Now the new 4400nex supposedly is too deep to fit my truck but from what I can tell in your side by side they are the exact same depth! Could you verify this is accurate and I wasn't just seeing things? Nice video btw, good comparison of the two flagships!
I have another question for you. I just installed this same radio in my camaro with the PAC kit, (I sent you a message on the other camaro instal video regarding the brown loop and power being cut). Are you able to use the motorized screen? It seems my kit doesn’t have the clearance to open so I have no access to the cd and SD slots. Just wanted to know if you have/had the same issue.
Juiyan Davis no I wasn’t able to get the screen to open. I thought about cutting the kit, but I didn’t want to take a $300 risk in having to buy another one. My main goal was to get Carpaly into the car, which I am happy with. I don’t keep cds in the car, and I don’t ever seeing me having an SD card with media either. The only thing I could see maybe having to use the SD card slot for would be to upgrade the firmware (I haven’t checked if you would be able to do so via USB.)
Kenwood Excelon XR DDX9905s, better Carplay compatibility, including wireless CarPlay, HD, capacitive touch screen. Similar price to the Pioneer AVH-w4400nex, which you should get if you want a Pioneer.
Right you can setup wireless car play without first connecting it to the usb. I think pioneer has a video somewhere here that walks you through the various was to do it
can the w4400 be bypassed from the corner of the screen like the previous nex ? i don’t think it has that bypass on this version if you find one please show a video please. many thanks jesus
my carplay is so glitchy and laggy how is it so fast for you? I have an iphone 6 with a 2300nex. Im thinking its probably the phone but man its bad like REALLY bad. I have to spend a at least a few minutes making it work every time I get in my car and I usually cant control my phone on the radio. So frustrating...
I had that same problem, but thats because I had installed the latest beta of iOS 12. apple CarPlay is only as good as your phone so if you have a slow glitchy phone it will translate that over to your head hunit remember its your phone that gives your stereo the overlay. I did a restore on my iPhone 6 back to 11.4.1 and it worked smoothly I had also done a restore on head unit just in case. the only thing I don't like is that I can't scroll or scrub the songs to a specific section of track I can only hold forward to fast forward thats weird as my old pioneer new didn't have that problem hope it gets fixed in a firmware update.
How hard is it for Pioneer to give us an SQ unit? you have 2 single radio's that are Audiophile grade and yet nothing for us Double din guys. I want the DSP and the DAC from either the Pioneer Deh-80prs or the pioneer p99rs. Give me that and I'm good to go, you can keep the amplifier section, and you can keep the Garmin nav. Price it around $600-700 with or without an optical drive and they won't be able to keep them in stock.

no VSS or GPS antenna hooked up on my 4400. maps work fine through USB to my Android phone. yesterday tried my wife's Apple phone with wireless carplay and the map could not find the current location for my car for Apple Maps. I do not have the Apple USB cable run as I am an Android guy so did not try wired Carplay with her phone and no VSS or GPS antenna. I used the Apple USB port on the back to instead power a Chromecast that is plugged into the HDMI port so I can Chromecast stream. The setup for that was to start my hotspot on my phone. Connect my laptop to the hotspot. Then I went through the normal Chromecast setup procedure when doing it from a laptop to set the Chromecast to connect to my hotspot wifi. Once it was done setting up no more need for the laptop. Now when I want to stream to the 4400 I turn on the hotspot, wait a few minutes for the Chromecast to connect and for my Android phone to realize there is a Chromecast on the local network. Sometimes it takes a few minutes for the phone apps to realize Chromecast is on the network but once found it works perfectly. From there I have the Chromecast button on all the usual apps like RUclips, Netflix, Chrome browser, Hulu, HBO Go, yada yada yada. Maybe you guys already did a video on it but adding Chromecast is pretty simple, reasonably cheap, and super handy if you have a spare USB port on the back of the head unit, an HDMI port, and a mobile hotspot.
I am curious what functionality you are gaining by using a chromcast when the 4400 has built in wireless miracast which allows you to fully mirror and control your phone from your stereo screen?
Chromecast is considerably better than Miracast for streaming stuff like Netflix, Hulu, RUclips, etc. Miracast is pretty clunky and ties up your phone. They are different animals.
Has anyone had success in bypassing the parking brake ? I have mine bypassed with the micro bypass, it works while you are not moving and under 5-10 mph. After that speed the black screen comes on warning you about moving video. I do not have VSS hooked up to this unit
Also, make sure the microbypass is hooked up as follow: Black to harness ground (twist cap or solder only) Blue to blue/white (ant/amp) Green to green line of e brake ***The green wire must not be attached to anything else other that the microbypass and the harness. It can not make the connection to the car harness. So it will go from the microbypass to the long green wire (I cut off the extra as it wasn't needed.

@@ttss5726 I think he's referring to a photographer on RUclips named Jared Polin. He does sniff tests on all new camera bodies and lenses. It's his signature thing on his camera equipment previews. He also does a "wind tunnel test" by blowing at the equipment to see how "aerodynamic" it is. LoL

Wireless Carplay WILL CONNECT WIRELESSLY! Just tap the phone icon at lower left corner and then select the radio within bluetooth setup of your phone.
Is there a way to add the park assist lines to the Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX? Will they not be there even if I connect a backup camera that has them?

Also I am using a Pixel 2 XL and a 1st Gen Pixel standard. DONT FORGET TO BYPASS THE PARKING BRAKE WIRE (ground)! I made that mistake.

Is this usb same as all the other pioneers? Meaning usb 1 is apple CarPlay only and usb 2 is android auto only? Or are they inter changeable?

Hey Guys, Great vids, How did Apple carplay navi work without the vss or gps wires hooked up? Im anxious to find out, I have video in motion, but for some reason my triangle that represents my truck, is always pointed sideways, any idea why?
I just swapped out my 4100NEX (with working bypass) for this 4400NEX and used the existing wiring harness. I think you mentioned the harness had changed with this new model. I didn't hook up VSS, but did attach the GPS antenna. I'm now getting a "System detected improper connection of Parking Brake lead" shortly after being in motion and my bypass switch doesn't do anything. Otherwise everything else works. Is this due to the wiring harness changing or could it be because the GPS antenna is hooked up? Trying to figure out would could be wrong before taking it all apart (I soldered and shrink wrapped for previous install)
If you want video in motion you have to disconnect the gps ant and restore the radio. Basically turning it into a 4200.

So i just upgraded to the W4400nex. I installed the micro bypass and everything works with video playback. But when I start to drive, I get the warning on the screen and video playback stops. I’m thinking because I have the gps antenna connected. Any work around for this besides disconnecting it?
I figured it out. I updated the firmware to 1.01 and I did the factory video bypass trick by touching and holding at the lower left part of the screen until you see a message displaying “set on”. It’s been working flawless since then. Great videos BTW!!!!
Is the micro-bypass necessary if you can do the factory bypass “trick”?
I don’t know but I have it installed but now that I have the mic for the auto eq function, the selection for that is grayed out and I can’t do the auto eq setup
just had the 4400NEX installed yesterday...FYI...
1) fan is constantly on! Pioneer support said the 4201NEX does not have that issue! this was annoying as i went thru the feature set in the garage. cant hear it when driving or with music tho...just a fyi
2) parking assist guides cannot be adjusted in the 4400...they can in the 4201...per Pioneer support...
both of these were disappointments for me! YMMV

I can view the images from the usb stick but I do not see the download button to add them to the unit .

I would like to purchase a new unit for my car. I can't decide which unit to go with between the Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX or the Kenwood DDX9905S. What do you recommend? I currently have a Pioneer AVIC-5000NEX in my car that I installed about 5 years ago. Also the Kenwood DDX9905S says that it has WiFi built in but what would this feature be used for? Thank you.
If you're an iPhone guy go for the Kenwood. If you're an android guy that's more up in the air--the biggest difference is the HD, capacitive screen on the Kenwood while the Pioneer has a standard definition (800x600), pressure screen.

Great videos, I do have a question have you experienced playback issues with youtube and android auto? I have a pixel 1 and it works perfectly fine, however with my galaxy S9 the playback is speed up a little bit, enough that the audio doesnt play and you can see the video is moving faster than normal :(

Yes kind of. The 4400 added the VSS wire and moved the yellow black mute
Five Star Car Stereo so I can’t hook up the 4400 to the 4200 harness then I just had the 4200 in my car it died on me and now I have the 4400 coming on replacement, but the harness is from the 4200 still in my car and I don’t have any other harness? So it won’t work ?
Question for ya - I am in the process of doing my 2015 Tacoma and was set on the 4201NEX. According to Crutchfield the 4201nex fit my truck. Now the new 4400nex supposedly is too deep to fit my truck but from what I can tell in your side by side they are the exact same depth! Could you verify this is accurate and I wasn't just seeing things?

I have another question for you. I just installed this same radio in my camaro with the PAC kit, (I sent you a message on the other camaro instal video regarding the brown loop and power being cut). Are you able to use the motorized screen? It seems my kit doesn’t have the clearance to open so I have no access to the cd and SD slots. Just wanted to know if you have/had the same issue.
Yes mine opens and closes. It is not easy and may take a couple tries

Juiyan Davis no I wasn’t able to get the screen to open. I thought about cutting the kit, but I didn’t want to take a $300 risk in having to buy another one. My main goal was to get Carpaly into the car, which I am happy with. I don’t keep cds in the car, and I don’t ever seeing me having an SD card with media either. The only thing I could see maybe having to use the SD card slot for would be to upgrade the firmware (I haven’t checked if you would be able to do so via USB.)

Kenwood Excelon XR DDX9905s, better Carplay compatibility, including wireless CarPlay, HD, capacitive touch screen. Similar price to the Pioneer AVH-w4400nex, which you should get if you want a Pioneer.

my carplay is so glitchy and laggy how is it so fast for you? I have an iphone 6 with a 2300nex. Im thinking its probably the phone but man its bad like REALLY bad. I have to spend a at least a few minutes making it work every time I get in my car and I usually cant control my phone on the radio. So frustrating...
Smokie Vapez I have the AVH-2300 NEX and my unit works fine running Android Auto with a Galaxy S8. Have you updated to the latest firmware.
I had that same problem, but thats because I had installed the latest beta of iOS 12. apple CarPlay is only as good as your phone so if you have a slow glitchy phone it will translate that over to your head hunit remember its your phone that gives your stereo the overlay. I did a restore on my iPhone 6 back to 11.4.1 and it worked smoothly I had also done a restore on head unit just in case. the only thing I don't like is that I can't scroll or scrub the songs to a specific section of track I can only hold forward to fast forward thats weird as my old pioneer new didn't have that problem hope it gets fixed in a firmware update.
How hard is it for Pioneer to give us an SQ unit? you have 2 single radio's that are Audiophile grade and yet nothing for us Double din guys. I want the DSP and the DAC from either the Pioneer Deh-80prs or the pioneer p99rs. Give me that and I'm good to go, you can keep the amplifier section, and you can keep the Garmin nav. Price it around $600-700 with or without an optical drive and they won't be able to keep them in stock.

no VSS or GPS antenna hooked up on my 4400. maps work fine through USB to my Android phone. yesterday tried my wife's Apple phone with wireless carplay and the map could not find the current location for my car for Apple Maps. I do not have the Apple USB cable run as I am an Android guy so did not try wired Carplay with her phone and no VSS or GPS antenna.
I used the Apple USB port on the back to instead power a Chromecast that is plugged into the HDMI port so I can Chromecast stream. The setup for that was to start my hotspot on my phone. Connect my laptop to the hotspot. Then I went through the normal Chromecast setup procedure when doing it from a laptop to set the Chromecast to connect to my hotspot wifi. Once it was done setting up no more need for the laptop. Now when I want to stream to the 4400 I turn on the hotspot, wait a few minutes for the Chromecast to connect and for my Android phone to realize there is a Chromecast on the local network. Sometimes it takes a few minutes for the phone apps to realize Chromecast is on the network but once found it works perfectly. From there I have the Chromecast button on all the usual apps like RUclips, Netflix, Chrome browser, Hulu, HBO Go, yada yada yada.
Maybe you guys already did a video on it but adding Chromecast is pretty simple, reasonably cheap, and super handy if you have a spare USB port on the back of the head unit, an HDMI port, and a mobile hotspot.
I am curious what functionality you are gaining by using a chromcast when the 4400 has built in wireless miracast which allows you to fully mirror and control your phone from your stereo screen?
Chromecast is considerably better than Miracast for streaming stuff like Netflix, Hulu, RUclips, etc. Miracast is pretty clunky and ties up your phone. They are different animals.
Had anyone successfully did a parking/e-brake bypass and GPS delete to be able to use the video while driving? I'm hearing it's. It working well.

I hope they made the screen readable when wearing sunglasses. One of the most annoying things about the 4200 nex.

Has anyone had success in bypassing the parking brake ?
I have mine bypassed with the micro bypass, it works while you are not moving and under 5-10 mph.
After that speed the black screen comes on warning you about moving video.

Yes. I have successfully done the bypass. You must make sure you do not attach the VSS wire or GPS
Also, make sure the microbypass is hooked up as follow:
Black to harness ground (twist cap or solder only)
Blue to blue/white (ant/amp)
Green to green line of e brake
***The green wire must not be attached to anything else other that the microbypass and the harness. It can not make the connection to the car harness. So it will go from the microbypass to the long green wire (I cut off the extra as it wasn't needed.

@@ttss5726 I think he's referring to a photographer on RUclips named Jared Polin. He does sniff tests on all new camera bodies and lenses. It's his signature thing on his camera equipment previews. He also does a "wind tunnel test" by blowing at the equipment to see how "aerodynamic" it is. LoL
