No wonder I had so much trouble blending before... the little secret that so many youtube artists never shared -- a big thank you for helping me (a beginner) and all the other struggling "blenders" out there!!!
Hell yah that layer of white is one indispensable Bob Ross tips. Great video !

Finally someone saying to prep your canvass before painting. Thank you!
Or wet your canvas w a mist spray n run brush over it..or use clear medium ..that way your colors arnt dulled down
What's the best clear medium in your opinion?
@@Ariluvs205 golden I love but liquitex has great too

Cool Lowman...thank you
wish you much success on your channel
This is great! thank you for sharing. Have you ever done this on wood? And can it be adapted for smaller areas than the entire canvas? Love your colors btw
Glad it helped and yes, you can blend on wood but may want to prime it first
Thank you for this. I've always just skipped over this basic thing.
Thanks for sharing. ‼️👌♥️ Toom@CapeTown
White will remove the warmth from warm colors. You can also mix your colors and make sure brush is very wet. It will thin down the paint enough to spread it over a large area.
For what it’s worth I’ve switched to golden open (slow drying) acrylics and I love them
To summarize, use big dry brusg on wet paint
It’s like Bob Ross’s magic white
Muy bueno. Gracias. Crees que podría reemplazar el uso de agua por algún medium? Y evitar que se apaguen los colores. O tal vez usar medium y menos agua. Gracias
Claro, reemplazar un poco de agua con medio estará bien.
So your dry brushes or wash brushes how do you clean them up? Just rinse with water? and let them dry?
Yes, with any water-based paints (acrylics, watercolor, gauache, etc.) you can just rinse w/ water and let dry, but you'll need to use soap after oils.
👍
Great video! Why did you mute the fluorescent paints with white first?
It makes blending easier because you are blending into wet paint instead of blending into a dry canvas - just a trick for people for people who are having trouble.
I might try this except using "mixing white. "
Can you do this with black too?
So what do you do in tighter smaller areas where blending is needed, such as petals or leaves?
ruclips.net/video/lDlrDTFrquU/видео.html
Can I do this with oil paints? Or can I do an acrylic background and paint over it with oil?
yes you could do this with oils & yes, oil can go over acrylic but not the other way around
Very nice video , my big problem is the clouds 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks these might help: ruclips.net/p/PLOc-Au5nmR77QsFlsmImaHO-_Jqn-P1uY&si=ZcKgct_yT527Y31x
This is fine with a tiny canvas like yours. If you use a large canvas this will not work properly because the white layer will be drying out before you can get the other colours on it and then trying to blend it won't work at all. It might help if you use an extender mixed with the paint instead of water because the water is going to dry out much faster. However, we have nothing in the acrylic paint field so far as I know, that acts like the clear coat in oil painting which is a shame.
This video covers large canvas blending: ruclips.net/video/oec7O58RMl4/видео.htmlsi=ywq9z5WjR9wRCriJ
My paint is dry b 4 I hardly touch the canvas. So I'll give this a try as a last ditch effort. Thankyou😂❤
Adding slow-dri to your paint will give you some more time amzn.to/3GhL5gc
How would this work with a clear acrylic extender? Thinking that might work well on larger canvas. Just a thought.
This video covers using an extender to blend on a large canvas: ruclips.net/video/oec7O58RMl4/видео.html
If I have to paint on a plexiglass sheet?
Can I use any colour to size the canvas so that ind don’t get the dullness from white
yes you can use other colors, doesn't have to be white
Hii . Can u also teach blending with chalk paint @greg
What could we do if we wanted more vibrant colours?
If you’re worried about muting your colors, just do it the exact same way without adding the white coat of paint first - ruclips.net/video/V6jTEXQjI5s/видео.html
Would white gesso work, too?
No, you'll want to use actual paint for this - gesso is used to prep/smooth a canvas.
❤❤❤❤❤💗👍
I have a small paintbrush how can I make use of it instead of the blender brush
You don't need an actual blender brush, it just helps when applying the paint. Most brushes work fine (small wash, square, etc.) for that step.
Every time I watch a tutorial like this there is another piece of equipment I need. This time a blender brush?
Not necessary but it helps to lay the paint on - could use a different brush (small square/wash or large round)
It dries quite rapidly what To do for that ?
Work quickly, use warm water (and more of it), make sure no fans are on overhead, and mix slow-dri into your paint: amzn.to/3GhL5gc
From my experience too much water isn't good for blending because it weakens the binder, making the paint lift.
Is canvas gessoed or raw? It was so helpful thank you!
That’s great np & it’s just raw out of the packaging no gesso
