    When Trump tariffs imposed, my company had to laid off 1/3 US high paying positions. And raised our prices to all our consumer products. That's reality.

We thought Biden term would be the more sensible one but all I saw from across the pacific was more decoupling resulting in more inflation for Americans on basic goods, signs of American chip companies losing revenue resulting in financial troubles like Intel as alternatives suppliers are established, companies winding down doing business with American companies aka not renewing contracts once they expire then sell to other regions although mainly due to better payment terms than geopolitics risks since we can always change payment terms from net 30-90 to deposit and payment before shipment because now America has a reputation of “they can arbitrarily take your products and not pay you on due date by enacting sanctions” even if you are based in an Ally country and do not have China in your supply chain.

So, at first it will increase prices for foreign goods, but then capitalists will find alternative means to provide for the demand that will maximize profit...
      If Peru has expanded blueberry production by 470% over the last 6 years and US blueberry production has fallen 5% in the last few years... When tariffs are put on BlueBerries you will se an increase in domestic production... If in retaliation Peru increases tariffs on US oil for example which is a really bad idea, but if they did, then distributors in Peru will look to neighboring nations to buy oil...

      You're leaving out the fact that tariffs are government imposed (not competition imposed), favor big businesses, favor inefficiency and are anti- competitive because small companies won't necessarily be able to afford to restructure their supply chains.

    • @CrabFiles
      @CrabFiles 2 месяца назад +3

      @@benabraham2783 The government regulates the entire market... Everything is government imposed including the market... There is no such thing as free market like you are talking about. The free market is the ability to buy and sell freely within the regulated government hosted market.
      Quite the opposite, see small companies will sprout out to create the smaller components and pieces... Because those big manufacturers now have to operate within the domestic market.
      Most of the innovation starts with small companies that become big companies... So, there will be opportunities for smaller companies to provide those component dependencies as well as innovate new solutions to lower costs...
      A good example is the the Rust brothers, they were not rich plantation owners they were slave traders that created the cotton picker... So, people who facilitate the big corporations ( distributors and suppliers) will more than likely seek to maximize profit under the new market environment.

    That is why the point of tariffs is to bring back companies to the US where US workers are hired, they make those products that usually you order in china, produce matterials here in US through the efforts of the manufacturing companies! Of course, if you still persist in relying on china, then there will be increase in prices of those products you order from china and you'll be a fool if you still persist in buying from china! So bring back the manufacturing companies here in US, they make their product here, they hire american workers to make it then the result would be fantastic. The problem in your mind set is that after imposing tariffs on china products, you want still to persist in purchaising those product! Fool!

      BYD’s cars are better than GM’s and are selling in China for $5,000 and still making a profit. Even with 100% tariff and shipping cost, BYD can sell its cars in US for far less than a GM counterpart. And don’t believe in that BS about Chinese government subsidies. In 2023, there were 26 million passenger cars sold in China. Even if the government subsidies $1,000 per car, it would go bankrupt. Car manufacturers in China can produce quality products are a much lower cost because they are highly automated and have integrated their supply chains.

    Previously when the Trump Government put 20% tariffs on European ovens and cooking appliances, it was argued that this would make the American built appliances considerably cheaper than the imports. Great plan except ,what did the American companies do,? They raised their prices as well in response so the American consumer simply ended up paying more for their ovens. Bit late now Fox News to be getting to grips with the fallacy behind tariffs.

      My god!! Trump is a genius. I always think it's a good idea to increase sales tax while decreasing income tax so most taxes are paid by those people who consume more. Of course people will complain about sales tax so no politicians will want to be the one to increase it. He applies tariffs to a country that produces most of what we consume saying it will help Americans. Prices will go up but he will decrease income tax to help. It's the same as increasing sales tax while decreasing income tax in a roundabout way!!
