How does he play these songs so perfectly live? Studio is one thing, but live is unbelievable.
Years ago Susan and I saw several concerts at the Hollywood Bowl. Other highly polished well practiced musicians that play perfect live are the Eagles (rip Glen), Eric Clapton and Stevie Winwood, and at other venues we saw Bob Seger, Van Hagar Halen, and at the Greek Theater was Chickenfoot where I finally got to see "Satch". They all play 'perfect'!
Edit: Joe Bonamassa is also another one who plays perfect live.
Stud-i-us him : studio them : stud-ents we!! LION IS - THE LION be it the masai maara or the Patagonian plains _ AMEN
Notice, he doesn't use In-ear monitors....
Exactly. Not sure I’ve ever seen a guitarist play incredibly technical parts this perfectly live as consistently as Satch does. He’s one of a kind. His mastery of the guitar is up there with the greats. He fucking owns that instrument.
He is one of the best guitarist ever. ☺️
I've heard them all, mr. Satriani is the best, His live performances are unreal, we are blessed to have his music
nope second best jeff beck no 1 even joe admits it
Lol watch this guy on stage with Tommy emmanuel, he can't keep up
Joe is a great song writer.
But Vai’s avant guard style is miles ahead of the field.
i agree , Vai's style is miles ahead. They both have perfect mastery over their playing, and over the effect pedals.
I've heard them all also. This is Eddie Van Halen 1987.
Those finger tap arpeggios convinced me that this man is an alien, absolutely amazing. He gave us a clue naming an album "Not of this Earth". Fortunately his species is not here to harm us but just rule over the electric guitar.
And surfing with the Alien :)
Well he did say that he was "Not of this Earth!"
this is from flying in a blue dream!!!
Amen my friend
Shapeshifting?
This man is truly a gift from God!
One of the few shredders with massive groove and feel at the same time.
Watching him play Live is like watching magic in a way. Love it
True
What I have always been amazed by - is he plays this stuff live and it is nearly exact to the albums - BUT actually played - LIVE.
Playing stuff with 20 takes in a studio is one thing - but reproducing it LIVE - perfectly - in a stressful situation - while running around and relying on pedals and for everything to go right - your strings to not break - your instrument to work etc . . it is absolutely amazing. His skills are insane.
The best ever
Love the sparkly finish on this guitar. Marvelous performance to say the least. This song is still as impressive and catchy now as it was then. Wow.
Every. Single. Note. and. Harmonic... played perfectly. Impossible.... yet Satch pulls it off. Unbelievable. No way is he human.
1989 to 2018 wow almost 30 years that i discovered joe´s music and still rock me out....the maestro!!!
Same...
Ditto!!!
Joe nailing all of the studio tracks "LIVE" with colossal tone and skillz. He's definitely great.
Drove a $500 hoopty from Maine to California in 1988 smoking Old Golds, drinking lots of coffee, and blasting a cassette of Surfing With The Alien on a battery powered boombox over & over & over.
I have no friends that I can share this joy with - in fact - if I told them I loved the mystical potato head - they would laugh at me and say WTF - but to me, this is absolute magic - ill take this (and many others) to the grave - ill continue to dedicate my limited free time to listening, playing and enjoying this weird music that no one likes. but thanks to the internet - I know I am not alone :)
Very recognizable :)
No need to be ashamed of your love of Joe's music! If you were to introduce them to some of the songs similar to the genres they like, it could transform them!!! 🎶🎸🎵👽
You’re definitely not alone 👍
After all these years he nails it.. Still amazing. Bought the cd, bought the tab book, saw him in Anchorage from the back of Egan Center but this tops it ALL... To see how he actually gets those sounds to come out of that piece of wood is truly not of this earth.
You know that feeling you had when you just finished out your senior year in high school any skits the last day of class playing out on the beach with your favorite girl???? every time I listen to Joe Satriani, it comes right back!! How can you not have a huge smile on your face when you listen to this. Thanks for everything!!!!
Holy shit replace the beach with an old flooded rock quarry and that was me. Was thinking about it when I read your comment. Seems like it was yesterday...damn the years went quick.
Learning this rhythm guitar section alone would open your musical landscape and showcase the infinite doorways forward 👽🎸🎶
this song and flying in a blue dream are to me the best composed Satch songs
It is evident that you are pure energy from the stars mr Satriani⭐️☀️🏄
Glad to be back here again .. .. Oh Yeaaah . . .
Such an awesome groovy beat 2 this song.
That's real dope! "Flying in a Blue Dream" was my first Satriani's album. Then "The Extremist" was my second one.
When a genius is playing the only thing I can do is to enjoy.
The master maestro at work. This whole album moves my soul !!!!!
From an album that got me through a very challenging time of my life in the late 80's. I am forever grateful, Mr. Joe.
Been said before, but this guy is really very good at playing the guitar
Haven’t ever seen or heard anything so f-n wonderful. You rock on brother. BREATH TAKING! Mmmm
I love how Joe can sell out big arenas just playing guitar. Sofa-King jealous. Its because his guitar instrumentals are so beautifully melodic, and composed to make you, yes, you, feel good. And to create such music, is a special gift. And Joe keeps on giving like no other!
Every player in this band is top of the tops. Satch....you are the best brother.
What a gem he is, out of this world talent.....
Best ever, YMMV
Stunning. My top 10 favorite Bay Area guitar players in order:
Joe Satriani
Neal Schon
Dave Meniketti
Carlos Santana
Lowell Fulsom
Ronnie Montrose
Jason Becker
Billie Joe Armstrong
Chris Cain
Brad Gillis
That groove😍🙌
If you can, go see him live. The first album I bought was a Joe Satriani cassette. Second was a CD. ;-) Enjoyed G3 in CA and Joe via a smaller venue in FL, always a great time. Fun to listen to the albums, 10x fun live. Support live music, and support real musicians!
Mystical Potato paved the way for The Extremist and Summer Song, but this one has grown to become one of my favorite Satch song over the years, maybe my favorite, amazing track. Joe had such an amazing run from Surfing-Time Machine, couldn't really get into anything after that.
Not even Super Colossal? That is such a good album, start to finish... :-)
@@xwxobs1 I used to have that album way back, it wasn't terrible, that's for sure.
@@charlesdjones1 I like his latest album hes gone back to his weird and wonderful music rather than the rocky / ballad stuff.
Joey you are truly a remarkable boy. There is so much in this. It's astounding. Modern Day Mozart for sura
Joe and Mr hendrix have to be two of the best of all time
Hendrix showed the path.
Joe walked the path and went far ahead.
@@borisalbert8032eddie was the light😊
I remember reading in a Guitar World magazine interview many years ago that Joe doesn't play TMPHGT live because of the complex arpeggio part and that he struggles with the stretching of the fingers. Ive never seen him play it live but this was the 2nd best thing! Such a master! I love Surfing but Flying in a Blue Dream transports me to somewhere I cant explain. I got the cassette when i was 14 and have been mesmerized by it ever since.
His sound is just so fucking good, it's ridiculous. Not to mention his flawless technique, paired with his amazing tone it really doesn't get much better than this.
it doesnt
That right-hand rhythm guitar technique!
👽🎸🎶
My favorite song by the professor!
Had the privilege of seeing Satch live with G3 (At the time it was Petrucci and I believe Vai as the others). Easily one of the best performers I've ever seen live, truly honoured.
This session in particular brings to mind ZZ Satriani and how it must’ve been growing up like, “Yeah, that’s my dad! WTF?!?!” Sooo freakin cool!
Happy birthday to you, Joe!
Thank you, for the music! You are, great musician!
OMGoodness this such a crazy beautiful piece of music. Thank you Joey you are a beautiful boy.
😮 The very definition of making the impossible look “effortless.” 😮
I love these songs finishers.... Joe always in my heart❤
He has great musicians surrounding him .The whole band plays together thats is why its so clear.Just like in the studio.
Except for that missing cowbell 😮😢
Such a grooved cool song love it.
flying in a blue dream and the extremist are my fave sach's albums!!!
Whole other level. Not many, if any, on that plane of existence
This performance brings tears to my eyes. So long ago. So very special 🖤
Our Joe, who art right here on Earth...
Absolutely brilliant seen him twice in bristol uk.
Joe and the band were on fire right here. Everyone sounds amazing, and I love the crunch on the rhythm guitar parts. Damn.
Amazing Joe.
A true MASTER..
Nessuno come te grande joe
Always thought that
He really is
"Not From This Earth"
literally an Alien
👽 🎸 🎶🖖
Faz uns 30 anos que conheço o trabalho do sensacional joe...excelente profissional!!
I think this is the one that made him decide to never write anything sitting down again. lol
Love this performance and that tone is amazing! The ending was *chef's kiss*
I saw Jonathan Mover play this groove with cowbells mounted on the left & right to create the original drum groove. More cowbell!
Mystical Satch head grooves us!
I love the ending at 5:03. Joe sneaks in a new harmonic color. The band is playing a regular E major chord, and Joe plays E phrygian but with a major third (or A harmonic minor if you look at it that way) over it. He uses the ambiguity of the plain E major chord to fill in the blanks with whatever major variation of E he wants. Genius!
Just SICK!!!
Yuu have so many fans in Knoxville TN man!
Potato Head rocks!!.....
I love this man
Je ne m'en lasse pas.
mind blowing...haha..totally into it
As awesome and legendary as this man is
Ive seen him twice with G3 and with that and all the live recordings ive seen him on with youtube etc
Joe always looks relieved when he gets through mystical potato head
😁
Yeh...very difficult piece.
Been playing 47 years and I would have a nervous breakdown trying to play this. 😨😂
Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Master at work
AMAZING
Joe always finds my groovy bone.
Greate performans!
Dave LaRue on bass! Satch always gets the best ppl to perform with him
Excuse my ignorance but who is he?
Seba Zabala
Google still works
Bass kicks on this track. I love it
Isn’t that Stu Ham on bass
@@davepett6531 Yes!
What a grove! In this song.
作曲能力、演奏能力、
そして人格。
神は彼に三つもの素晴らしき物を与えた。
悟り兄最高。
This is the reason why even Vai and Guthrie call Satch the best.
Guthrie has never claimed that . On the other hand Satch and Vai have claimed Guthrie to be the best
Yep!!!
ok so I've watched the video 72 times and I still don't understand how he does the "woompeladaladodeemwoompeladoodala" thing
He reaches over with his right hand and mutes the strings. The rest is hammer-on arpeggios.
Hahaha this comment deserves more love. Best use of onomatopoeia I've ever seen on a RUclips comment 😂
Such a pretty song
yeah 🎸
Awesome Satriani!
03:25 oh yeah.
Para empezar el lunes esta excelnte
Nice to see Dave LaRue on bass saw him with PLX absolute beast.
The back ground music I chose for my skydiving video was this song lol. Was and still is the best choice
Yeah🍠🌟Groove Thing🌠
Joe's the master. I tip my hat to you good sir.
Mr Satriani is coming to my hometown October 22😳
I love the bit that sounds like "boool blooobie blooopie Bella booo booo beleeep"
long live joe
I love the sequence at around 1:11 where Joe is having a great time with some Leslie West style licks. Great song!!!
Being so talented, this guy only has 37 k subscribers.
Aditya Makhija this channel is new.. that's the reason
he is the god of instrumental music man his level is much higher than you think.
50k now
155k now
RUclips is not his main platform; he was killing it on guitar 20 years before RUclips existed.
That tone WTFFfff in a good way
This guy’s pretty good. He should consider a career in music maybe.
so badass
Hello master* God of the universal guitar* 😘You picked me up 😍
And your band is from another world 😅🤩
Watched him live 3 times now, best out there, love him
I knew him for 20 years. He didn't change a bit. He's not aging 😳
He's a superior alien, that's why.
