Modern country is designed NOT to talk about the real lives of farmers. Willie Nelson got ostracized for that reason. You can't write songs about getting screwed by the middleman or crushing farm debt or monocrops or the war on ranching. So it's become formulaic. When the girl leaves the farm to go to the cold concrete canyons of New York, she can always come home to where folks are real, etc etc

Anthony's general reaction to modern country music is top notch. I never liked it or it's repetitive themes. I'd rather listen to Willie Nelson or Kenny Rogers than this.
It really is. Hillbillies in the South are the most pro-black people you've ever seen. They've all been raised with black friends, teachers, etc... so all the white hillbillies all act and talk black now.
Ahh yeah, the ol' "axis of awesome" progression I V vi IV. To be fair though, old country was 90% I IV V. It's just become identical to pop now. They found the chord progression that appeals to the largest number of people, and now they think that's the only way to chart.
I live in the countryside, and my God, I hate modern country with every fiber of my being. This…shit makes me want to rip my own ears off. The way modern country music is produced is almost identical to how modern rap music is produced. You’re essentially taking a trap beat (the exact same as found in your typical rap song), someone with a southern accent (who most likely lives in Suburbia and not the countryside), typing “write me a country song” into ChatGPT. The generated song will likely contain the following words, used very regularly throughout the song: • “truck” • “girls” • “windy dirt road” • “Chevy”, “Ford”, and/or “Dodge” • “bar” • “small town” • need I go on? Then you sing whatever ChatGPT puts in front of you, auto tune the recording, and there’s your song. Do an album cover and go profit off it! No thought, no soul and no passion whatsoever. In fact, if someone held a gun to my head and told me to choose between modern country and modern rap, I would DEFINITELY pick modern rap. It’s THAT BAD. Modern rap is still terrible, but it’s more tolerable than this garbage. The classic country (such as Johnny Cash, Roger Miller, Charlie Daniels, or even the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), I actually enjoy listening to. Why? They put their heart and soul into their work, and its an actual story that’s told by and actually seems to originate from the singer themselves, NOT an AI program, and its sang with their actual voice, and the song is not an autotuned AI-generated cesspool. Classic country, classic rock, and 90s/2000s grunge rock are my 3 favorite genres of music. I do not notice any lyrical diversity or uniqueness in any modern country song as I do in these three genres. Just my 2¢.
Modern country sucks so bad and I feel another reason that it feels so formulaic is that so much of it has an inauthentic forced drawl. Totally agree. I am a mobile DJ and I have almost all popular genres covered but modern country just doesn’t stick. Ant is right, Country music has been largely the same since the 1980's. There's this upbeat variation which is more country/pop fusion and then the other which is the sad country ballad. The former usually deals with partying, slapping genitals, drinking beer, 'murica, slutty country girl revenge songs, and rebelling against authority while the latter almost exclusively covers a woman breaking a man's heart.
"Are there people who like this fucking shit??"
Yes....and they all live in Delaware....I can't even go to bar anymore......
After hearing that song, my last two brain cells are fighting for their lives.
" I'd rather eat the barrel of a double barrel 12 gauge loaded shotgun , than to hear that shit they call pop country music on 98.1" ~ Hank 3
Its just pop music with a southern drawl.
We do things a lil different round here..
Fishing in the Dark is a song by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. And agreed on your take on country. The exact same can be said of current pop music sadly.
Found out about anthony from the O&A show. Listen to it every morning now as if it was on air now. Good to see Ant is doing well and hasn’t changed much. Thanks for making my mornings better ant.
Every modern country singer and band member looks like a yuppie from brooklyn
all modern popular music whether its classified country, rock, r&b, etc, has been watered down into plastic homogenized instagram chick / soccer mom music. Blame women, once they're the target demographic you can expect something to be dumbed down to the level of a child.
Hey, I'm a traditional female and I completely agree with Ant. Not all women are dumbed down feminists.
@@pronounsuswe5698 Turn her mic off.
Women think like children because they're supposed to be taking care of them.
Another traditional woman here who agrees with Ant. If women are ruining music, especially modern country which has always sucked, what does that say about the men singing it?
@@HellaGabriella187 That they know how to profit off the vapidness of female tastes & marketing gullibility.
I can never recall any country and western song I could ever listen to. It is like fingernails on a chalkboard, or the screeching of a train’s breaks. My skin crawls and I change the station after 5 seconds.
I could listen to Ant complain about shit for days. Lol.
Every time my stepmother puts on k99.1, I just zone out.
Pop with a southern accent
Country accent
I never thought Bo Burnham and Anthony would be on the same page about something. Panderin'
There's Dwight Yoakam and then there's everyone else.
Garth Brooks had some bangers too
"Same fucking shitty song" Not Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, Charlie Crockett, Vincent Neil Emerson, Chris Stapleton, etc. I do agree Nashville (which are the only songs coming out) has been ruining country music since the late 80's.
Idiocracy 2023 🇺🇸
At least they didn’t sing about Walmart, Chevy, and Coca-Cola by name this time.
I like when Antknee gets mad
“I hate CUNTry music!” had me dying😭💀💀
Only phrase that was missing was hanky-panky
bahahaha Ive been to New York once in my life for a week on Dec 9th 2021. While I was waiting in line for the Comedy Cellar on a Monday night I saw a the Cafe Wha? that the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band was playing the next night. I went to the show hahaha. They were really good...that played alot of Dylan music...and of course Fishin In the Dark
Agree with everything he said.
Still like it better than rap 😂
Much modern country has hip hop drum loops
@@fringestream990 Hip Hop is not music. Thanks for trying.
@@clvrswine Yes it is
It's funny how the music video turns an awful country song into pure, refined cringe.
goddam i love Cumia for this
Anytime a song mentions the moon or stars it’s garbage
Have fun in south Carolina then lol
me too 😅
" Milk, milk
Lem-on-aaade
Round the back
Fudge is made"
3:00 “under that Islam moon”
Yeah wtf was that
gotta get that realistic representation of Muslims who show up and dance in country bars
Ant might be a little too “urban” to enjoy country music
Totally agree. I am a mobile DJ and I have almost all popular genres covered but modern country just doesn’t stick. It is the only genre that I will not play unless requested to do so and it has to be an actual request. Only thing modern country is good for is the odd slow dance.
And the over done tropes and half the time I don’t know if they are trying to encourage me to drive drunk or be saved.
People talk about rap being crap? Needs to look at country too.
Girl, you make my speakers go boom boom.
THANKS 😘
and I wasn't even trying!! ❤
Oh Ant just needs to let his hair down after be reminded after a hard day workin and drivin his pickup down the dirt road even us regular blue Jean wearin guys need to relax by the lake with some beer because we love our dogs and riding our tractors(which is often a euphemism for knockin boots).
Did i miss anything? Probably also I'm not your average guy, I got mud on some objects of clothing and I'm about to walk into a bar where some city folk might find that distasteful but I don't give a care because I was raised on the other side of the tracks and girls like that cooooooountry.
Cuntry
Yeauuaahhhhhhhhhh... Muh truck.... Yeahuauauhhhhh!!!
