Good review and a nice looking piece at a decent price however the inability to quickly detach the unit is just a massive problem here in the UK. It will get nicked at some point. left my phone on once at the garage to pay for fuel... Gone!.
I feel the same mate. A real oversight by the company in my opinion. A simple solution already exists in the form of ram mounts. Wouldn’t of been hard to put the ball joint on the back for quick dismantling of the unit 🤙
Watched the video,and appreciated the work that goes into filming,editting etc.i just cant get into the tech thats about these days though.its another distraction as far as im concerned.vut thanks for your continued efforts to try and show the likes of me what is available and how it weighs up!👍
Another great review, Matt. It does seem to be incredibly good value. I can't recall whether or not you said it had Siri capability. It's not really of any benefit on my 1250GSA, as with the Nav V it already does all this unit does, apart from dash cam, but could certainly be handy on my other bikes.
Thanks mate, I think because it is mirroring your phone and its capabilities it would have Siri, bike is currently in BMW getting the expensive 12k service and some other bits done so I can't pop out to the garage an check :)
@@DSR1YT You're a funny man!! 🙂 Yes, 20,000km service are indeed biggies. I now do our 10,000km services (easy) on our 1250s using the Hex GS-911 to check codes and reset. Helps save up for the expensive services!!
Hay Des, yeah probably mate, you know me, i like to find the hardest way possible to do the most simplest of tasks. All they needed to do was install a ball mount on the back and it could be easily taken on and off the bike. Now I’ll need to take tools with me where ever i go to take it off. Let’s face it, we are never truly happy with anything are we, inbuilt in to us to find something wrong :)
I've come to conclusion that the BMW TFT/App doesn't work for me. That's primarily because the TFT becomes the 'hub' and that results in things like the Cardo App no longer working. That's a right pain if you need to switch between DMC Groups. Also for me the BMW setup wasn't reliable, to be fair that was three years ago but I got so frustrated with it I've not tried it since. However, that's where units like this are so appealing. My only concern is these units will need regular updates to continue working with future versions of Andreoid/iOS and some of these companies may not be around in two years time. Is there any mention of where to get firmware updates for these units? Thanks for the review and I'm looking forward to the full review. 👍
There doesn't seem to be the perfect TFT / APP out there that covers everything you want seamlessly. Maybe one day someone will tick all of our boxes :). Ive emailed the company so I will see what they say in response to my questions about updates and how to update. I will try and include this info in the 1 month on review video.

Not sure they do need so frequent firmware updates as you imply - the whole point is that it is effectively screen mirroring from the paired device. The box itself is actually pretty dumb. The phone sends an encoded video stream for the UI, and the box just sends back X/Y coords of touching. There's not really much to need firmware updates for, since all the software is being streamed direct from the phone. Wireless carplay uses bluetooth + a local wifi connection between the devices for the stream, wired carplay just does it over the cable.
@@apetselNot really. I have gone for rides on several occasions with the phone locked in my pocket and was able to use the navigation on the dash to select and load up my home address from my recent locations. Doesn't work perfectly all the time but it works more often than not.
I agree with you there mate, looking at other bikes in the adventure / touring market from £15k and up, there are some real winners when it comes to the tech available within the TFT, sadly BMW just haven't got it right with the GS TFT. Although they've got a great set up with their 10.3" TFT on the RT model.
so on autoabc product page they have a few pics and youtube videos showing the itemand how it works. So I watched one of the videos from 4K motoring reviewing it and he says it is "hot garbage"........ and autoabc have put this on their page trying to sell it. WTF? admittedly it is cheap. like £122 at the mo for the one with the cameras and TPS. But ift the seller is advertising it with a vid saying it is "hot Garbage" youhave to wonder if they actually understand what they are doing. It's an Aliexpress special which for the cost is probably ok buuuuttttttt?????
Sorry I’m a motorbike driver not a car driver and don’t want to have all there distractions while driving , the less computerised things on a bike the better 😡😡
You don't have to be sorry :). There will always be people who don't want extra tech on their bikes. But you can't deny most new bikes these days come with plenty of tech on them.

It seems like a solution for a problem that doesn't exist? Why not just use a RAM mount or QuadLock and mount your phone to the handlebar?
Did you not catch the part where I mentioned my last iPhone and the bikes vibrations breaking the camera on it? That's enough reason for me.
Hey. How did the connection between Sean headset and phone work, is it via the product or Bluetooth to your phone?
Thinking back to this, im pretty sure the phone is the middle link between the unit and send.
3d print a quadlock back plate for it.
It’s certainly an option. I don’t own a 3d printer, but I’m sure someone out there could knock up the file for others to use. 🤙

shame BMW charge 24k for a bike and then still have to buy there sat nav instead of Incorporating it with the Beautiful TFT they have.
The BMW app has GPS, but it's shit because you have to leave the phone unlocked with their app open. Should definitely just have CarPlay.
