Thank you for creating the machine I've been dreaming of for 30 years, and thank you for the amazing updates. M8 is single-handedly replacing my four favourite Elektron machines.
this was such a fun meetup. you seriously knocked it out of the park with v3.0. can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future of not only the M8, but for trackers as a whole since i can totally see this getting more people into trackers than ever before :) (my track was at 1:51:10 btw. i forgot to add my name in the folder name haha)
When eight tracks can have different instruments and different effects and randomisation on each step, it becomes a lot more than the sum of its parts. :D
Had the preorder page open for months now, this update had me press pay. Plus one for larger screen mk2. And thanks for the upcoming font size preference!
I can’t believe you cracked polyphony!!!! So stoked. It was just the last meetup that I asked if it was even possible. And you’re just a one man team. Incredible.
Excellent work again!!! Damn, all those new features are amazing. Also very happy with the optimization of existing commands such as REP. This being able to be slower is just what I needed :)
Adding that Hypersynth/Hypersaw is just another juicy cherry on top the M8 cake. Especially with that additional subosc, loving the sound. Thanks man, awesome work (running 3.0 now on my M8).
Do you have any plans on adding ‘fill’ options. For example, select some steps and apply random notes into the pattern in a specific scale and range (destructive). Or select a row fx or velocity and apply a random rage to of values them. Euclidean fills, etc?
Finally pulled the trigger on the m8 after tinkering with it on the Teensy, both with a computer and an Anbernic retro handheld. July can't come fast enough. :D
Great update, thanks for all the work put into it and the run through here. Some great tracks in the bundles from other users too. I've so much to learn!
Please don't abandon this and find a way to create this again. I so need this as a headless with a computer just isn't an alternative. It's portability is so cool. I hope you find the parts and time to build enough of them so one can reach me 😊
TBX command is going to be super-useful for chiptune arpeggios on instruments that already have a table attached. Create tables for all the chords you might need and use TBX to change them. Amazing command!
Been circling that preorder button for awhile now and watching this stream pushed it over the edge 🎉 Now I can switch from watching M8 videos with a weird kind of sadness, to watching them with my learning cap on 🧢 😎 Thanks for all the hard work you put into this! You are a legend.
I wish we could just use CHD FX with anyu synth so you could create a track on the go, then change the instruments to midi outs and play with external synths, edit, then change back. This is like a dream workflow - having m8 always with you and working on songwriting on the go and sound design at home with synths. New instruments seems nice though, although it also seems like a strange workaround not fitting architecturally in the user experience.
The hardest part is waiting until (at least) July for preorders to start shipping again. Sure, I could fork out more and buy one from a scalper but I'll be f**ked if I'm giving my hard-earned to anyone but you. Watching everyone's great RUclips content is equal parts exciting and agonising! Can't wait...
WTF, song preview! Now hardware or DAW I know has that. Funny thing, I dusted off my m8 just yesterday after moving to other flat and - here we are. New firmware! sooo Gr8!
Oh, and another synth that can into chords!. Perhaps, in future updates it would be possible to add command that allows playing chords on any sound? That would be awesome.
2 questions: was the first demo track by mikey303 a homage to "Flat Beat"? :D Also, looking at the website the M8 is sold out currently, when will the next batch of units be available (as of 11/23)?
Did something change recently with the firmware? Or can SD Cards go stale? I am on a MicroCenter 256GB SD and used to run multiple samples flawlessly. Now, all my old tracks, however, stutter significantly on my previous firmware and now the v3 firmware. Suggestions?
This technique works with my vpme Quad Drum and is the recommended solution for stuttering sample playback on that device according to the manufacturer: 1 Copy all files to computer 2 Format card 3 Copy all files back to card
Is it possible to live record an electric guitar while your song is playing on the M8? I've been trying to research this for a while, but I really cant find an answer. I would love to jam on my guitar/bass, while a song is playing, coming up with melodies, then directly record it on the M8.
Polymetric and polyrhythmic stuff are both possible using the 'grooves'. They're kinda difficult to explain but once you get the hang of how they work they're super powerful, and it allows you to set how long each step in a sequence takes, per track (and then change that throughout a track), so for example you can arrange it so one track plays through 5 steps in the same time as another track plays 4 steps, and then later have them playing in a ratio of 6:4, 7:4, and so on. So many cool things can be done with them, the M8 or LSDJ manuals (LSDJ being a tracker that the M8 is inspired by) should contain plenty of useful information on how exactly they work.
The physical font size is the same or bigger than a typical cellphone app on default setting. If you have trouble with that, then you’ll have trouble with M8. Having said that for people that do have close vision issues, there will be a firmware update soon with a bigger font option.
Does the new ADSR help to eliminate the popping sound you often hear when triggering a sine wave synth bass? No matter how I adjust the envelope, that pop just won’t go away when playing a sine wave.
Yeah low bass notes with sine have such a quick attack that can cause clicks. ADSR with a quick attack should help. If it is FMsynth you could try adding a FMP00 command to have the phase start at the zero position.
@@Dirtywave I know it’s a common thing, but there are some synths that don’t have a click, and others that do. Moog, and Ableton, synths somehow don’t have clicks. It would be awesome if you were able to find how they have done such a good job with this, and then implement it into the M8. I’m just a big fan of sine wave bass lines, and it can be frustrating when the pops/clicks are audible. Thanks, either way.
@@F_letc.h yeah they do it with a slower attack envelope. If attack in m8 is zero it is effectively off. Can result in clicks in bass notes. Just increase the attack.
don't hate the click. it's a sign of fast envelopes. 99% of the time, people want fast envelopes cause u can dial them down if u want. for example the waldorf microwave is famous for its super fast enevlopes. on the other hand, the envelopes of the oberheim 1000 are super slow. so moog and others didn't made a good job with their envelopes. it's just their workaround to have an "always sounds great" synth. I don't want someone holding my hands, I want control!^^
@@ToumalRakesh Then it would consume more memory and be a very different UI workflow than other synth engines. Everything has tradeoffs basically, but we are limited by hardware a bit here.
You'll be waiting over a year unfortunately. The issue stems from chip shortage to break away from using the Teensy 4 module which uses microUSB, this has been the issue since 2021.
@@megahozer13 Preorder is for microUSB version only, not a future product. I was just trying to explain that it is something we want, it is just not on the current version.
"does anybody have any hate?" why should we. The m8 is a godsend❤

So happy with my M8. Ive only had it a month and there is SO MUCH TO LEARN but it is one of my favorite instruments hands down.
eridon's dark orbit is so incredibly dirty man doing such a rich sounding dnb with just 8 tracks is seriously amazing
When eight tracks can have different instruments and different effects and randomisation on each step, it becomes a lot more than the sum of its parts. :D

So glad to be a part of that M8 community , Tim is really putting at shame the industry standard !

What does the red lines in song view mean?
1:10:30 can someone explain why the song song chain jumps when there is a row of bookmarks created I tried it and didn't work for me
They used the SNG command to jump +2 song rows at the end of each chain
@@Dirtywave thanks i was to get it on facebook group lol
with the rbx command, would be nice to name those so you can see at the bottom what it is. like 80 - minor arp chord etc.
At this point I’ve only watched 29 minutes of this meetup and if I could I would give it 85 likes so far!!
I was thinking that the M8 had a chord synth and Lord Trash80 delivers
misophonia be damned, my boy can update a groovebox
Hey what kind of adapter will I need to be able to hook up the M8 tracker to my studio monitors
