A viral song can put an artist’s name on the map and change their life forever. In some cases, it can even take care of paying the bills for the rest of your life. But is it easy? Spoiler: it is not. (The long but quick text what a musician does)
As a musician myself, I have a dream of making it in the industry and owning a record label. So in an attempt to put my name out there and make it happen, I tried making a typical viral song.
An average viral song has to be very simple, catchy and has the potential for RUclips Shorts and TikTok. This is the result!
This song is a combination of Bass House (being popularized by Martin Garrix) and Big Room (think about Tiesto).
What's bass house?
Bass house is a style of house that appeared in the early-mid 2010s. The genre combines elements of riddim and UK bass, and often plays with heavy distortion. Early bass house filled the entire frequency spectrum, during the drop, with a single bass pattern. The tempo is most often set around 128 bpm.
What's Big Room?
Big room house or simply big room is a fusion subgenre of house music (notably progressive house and electro house) that gained popularity in the early 2010s. Characterized by its simple instrumentation yet complex structure, big room house soon revolutionized the EDM scene into multiple subgenres that we know today.
Although the term "big room" started appearing in news articles circa 2007, the current state of this subgenre emerged around 2010-12 and was popularized by songs such as "Epic" and "Cannonball". From 2013 on, artists like Martin Garrix, KSHMR, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Hardwell, Nicky Romero, Afrojack, and R3HAB began experimenting with this sound in their compositions.
The genre is generally set at a tempo that falls between 126 and 132 bpm. Songs typically include long buildups followed by an electro-style drop accompanied by the four on the floor kick drums typical of house music. Melodies are often simple and minimal, though a Trance-inspired supersaw is frequently used.
Who's Martin Garrix?
Martijn Gerard Garritsen (Dutch: [mɑrˈtɛin ɣəˈrɑrt ˈxɑrɪtsə(n)];[a] born 14 May 1996), known professionally as Martin Garrix and also as Ytram and GRX, is a Dutch DJ and record producer who was ranked number one on DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs list for three consecutive years-2016, 2017, and 2018. He is best known for his singles "Animals", "In the Name of Love", and "Scared to Be Lonely".
Who's Tiesto?
Tijs Michiel Verwest OON (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈtɛis miˈxil fərˈʋɛst]; born 17 January 1969), known professionally as Tiësto (/tiˈɛstoʊ/ tee-EST-oh, Dutch: [ˈcɛstoː]), is a Dutch DJ and record producer. He was voted "The Greatest DJ of All Time" by Mix magazine in a 2010/2011 poll amongst fans. In 2013, he was voted by DJ Mag readers as the "best DJ of the last 20 years".He is also regarded as the "Godfather of EDM" by many sources.
I tried something different in this video, I tried to make an animation in the style of JaidenAnimations and TheOdd1sOut! Who are they?
JaidenAnimations:
Jaiden Dittfach (born September 27, 1997), known online as Jaiden Animations, is an American RUclipsr and animator, known for her story-time animations. Her videos explore a variety of topics, spanning from her experiences to personal stories. She now primarily creates videos centered around video game stories. Dittfach mainly uploads animated RUclips videos that tell stories about her personal life. The videos often discuss subjects such as toxic relationships, body positivity, anxiety, and depression. She also creates videos centered on her travels and video games.
TheOdd1sOut:
Robert James Rallison (born May 14, 1996), known online as TheOdd1sOut, is an American RUclipsr, cartoonist, animator, author, and voice actor. He is known for producing storytime animations on his RUclips channel and co-creating, starring in, and executive producing the Netflix animated series Oddballs. Rallison's first published illustrated works were webcomics, under the title TheOdd1sOut. He uploaded the first comic strip onto Tumblr in June 2012, when he was 16. After 100 comics, he had amassed 100 followers, and it took him about a year to settle into his art style. By September 2016 he had written around 400 strips. Rallison described the characters in his comics as "marshmallow people" because of their white, roundish look. His comics tended to focus on lighthearted themes, such as taking famous puns literally, or poking fun at social clichés.

Making viral songs is fun, but it’s not the kind of music I aim to make. You can check this song via the links below! Also, don’t forget my actual songs (:

You have real talent! Sometimes variation in melody, though, is important as well as in background, beat, and all the other amazing stuff you did. It ended up sounding really cool! Keep creating! ❤
Thank you so much 🙏🏼 Comments like this are what pushing me forward to make better videos and music ❤️
As a music producer myself, this and awesome breakdown of how you made a house song to normal people who don't have the experience nor attention span to understand stuff like "syncopated sidechain" or stuff like that.
Thank you! Yeah, I was gonna go all nerd mode, but managed to stop myself hahaha
Bro I only realized halfway in that this video didn't even hit 1000 views yet. Great vid, keep it up!
Thanks man! Honestly, this is the best performing video so far. Can't wait to see where it takes me!
I started making music in fl studio and I am very impressed with your music skills like the base melody of your beat is so fire and i have never heard that melody before. I always think that all creative melodies have bean already created, this disproves that theory. Also this video is insanely entertaining, better than many other milion subscriber channels. So yor music skill + your story telletelling and editing skills together will create an great channel. I am sure you will have at least 10k subs before August if you will continou to work hard and create good videos. Btw sorry for the gramar but I am not fising allllll that. Good luck on your journey!!!
Thank you so much for these kind words! It will take you some time to become better, but don’t give up. I had spent 4 years making music for nobody before I had my first real listener. Tbh I had around 600 rejections on Submithub so I know the struggle of being a musician haha
Wow I just discovered your channel and I love your idea! keep it up!
Thank you! Cool Minecraft channel!
I am your 100th subscriber!!!
Can’t believe I actually hit 100 subscribers, thank you! 🎉
Ofc another banger as always also nice song btw
I aim to deliver
@@MikeHvllalso just a recommendation, if you actually want to make a viral song on something like TikTok, you should add words that could be used in scenarios. Like if a song says “ima goat” for example, people could use videos showing what their good at or something cool, like using the words for their own videos context
Noted. I tried adding “glow up” between the first part of the drop and the second one. You think I should’ve added more? Much appreciated though
@@MikeHvlloh yeah I hear it now, I guess it’s just so short i couldn’t notice it. Works though. Anyways GL and I hope it goes viral!
@Drixztin thank you!
this video looks like you have 2.3k subs
also the beat goes hard
Thanks man! Good to know I'm ahead of my sub counter in terms of quality haha
What website do you use to publish your music? (trying to get into the industry)
I use TuneCore, they provide me with everything I need such as Spotify Accelerator, publishing (collect your mechanical royalties), etc.. I used to use Distrokid, but they didn't have things like RUclips Content ID and they charge you for things like "Have your song recognized by Shazam for $0.99/year," which is not a lot, but when you have a lot of songs, it can add up pretty quickly. TuneCore has a free plan, too! I'm trying to get a discount for my viewers so if I get one, I will reply to this comment to give it to you.
Also also, try submithub to get feedback on your songs, and groover to promote those. But it's very hard on those websites, some say they are rigged lol
Making music for cash, no soul, dont be like this guy.
That is something I’ve discussed with another viewer here, in the comment section. This video is more of a “viral music is easy and can change your life” video. You can check out my actual songs if you’d like to.
I personally think it sounds generic. Of course what's original and what's successful is a different story but videos like this make me a bit worried that new artists will just try to make the next hit instead of exploring all the creative possibilities we have in this medium. Also I think it's extremely scummy that you put all these keywords in your description. This whole thing makes me assume you don't do this for the art but just for the publicity (which I totally get, it's just a bit concerning)
That's a totally valid concern. This video is more of a "Look, viral songs are easy." You can check out my other songs like "Simple Man" where I actually explore my childhood passions (EDM and Rock music). Anyhow, thank you for your time and have a good day!
@@MikeHvll You know this is a nice motivation actually, I didn't look at it from that angle
No problem, I’m glad two strangers on the internet can have a civilized discussion
Also. Your comment gave me an idea for a video about the current state of the industry. Do you mind if I show this comment in the video?
@@MikeHvll oh yeah totally! I would actually like to watch that
