Taiwan is such a bike heaven, miss the days climbing from hualien
Looking nice! Welcome back on the road!
Lovin your bike tour.
Thanks man, Yeah they were hot, we didn’t have disc breaks so we burned a lot of brake pad rubber.
Brings back fond memories as I rode from Taipei south through the mountains to the Taroko gorge then down from the top to Hualien on the east coast in February '18. It was awesome. Massive road restructuring further down the Taroko gorge new roads by passing the old road and tunnels more like a 2 lane highway in each direction. Such a shame. Get there quick before there is one huge highway over the mountains. The Taiwanese will do it eventually. Sad. But in the meantime great cycling. Disc brakes all the way for me. I hit crazy speeds nearly 80km/h and then braking hard for the hair pins on loaded touring bike. But I had 26" wheels with 2 inch tyres, so leaning my bike right over just like my motorbike. Trying not to ground the panniers. Fantastic fun and adrenalin rush. There's a road north of Taroko that must be at least 25-30% with about 40 hairpin bends one after each other going down side of the mountains for a long long way which is awesome to descend. I guess really slow to climb though. Taiwan is great for cycling in mountains but unfortunately very steep or flat little in between. Flat land is generally built on.
What were the huge flat bags you were carrying on your bikes, surf boards?
Have you ridden the Old Ghost Trail in NZ?
Where you guys start your climb from? Nantou?
From toroko, we went up and then back down
1st boiz, great vid
