It has all the ergonomics of a brick with a windup glued to it.
@Mialisus unlike the God-Machines of the Collegio Titanica, the STC of that god machine is best left forgotten and unrediscovered
Deutsche engineering, prima
It's the n64 controller of firearms
Well the only reason why it looks like a brick is because of how the action works.
The front looks like a brick because that’s where the recoil spring and gas tube are located, under the barrel, next to each other.
The back looks like a brick because of how the burst mode works, in an effort to reduce recoil, the entire action along with the barrel, recoil spring, and gas tube actually move backwards in the stock. This happens three times, once with each shot, so that every bullet hits on target. You only feel the recoil when the last shot is fired because the whole action then moves back to the front. (You can even see this happening, the mag moves backwards along with the action after every shot, burst, semi, or full auto [this is so that the mag can still feed into the action]).
@@Krieg_Operator Thank you for the solid explanation. I'm not hating on the rifle. It's a really neat concept. It's just doesn't seem like the easiest rifle to operate compared to the more common platforms.
I like to think that in most of the examples of games reloading the G11, they just rip out the magazine with their sheer strength without bothering to push the mag release button.
Like how in CS 1.6, the operator just rip out the magazine from the M4 without pressing the mirrored magazine release
Cuz that's more cooler than what a man at the end did
I can use imagination or suspend disbelief with a press off screen
They might forget or we don't see it most release mag buttons we can't see and they just pop out
The operator is so powerful in both mind and body as he rips magazine out with sheer strength and make it stay put and feed the gun with his mind
To be fair, I’m not sure information on the ergonomics and workings of the G11 was easy to come by before the FW video
No one knew that was the mag release button until Ian's video.
@@Jayalen, thanks to thee, ich have more light shedded on how this fireweapon worketh! Thou madest mee blithe!
@@Jayalen not really, the information is in a lot of the books and documents out there already, such as the G11 armorers manual, Die G11 Story by Wolfgang Seel, and many other ACR relate books and document. It is just the game devs are not that dedicated enough to figure it out. Hell they even demonstrated it back in some early PR footage.
Fair point
Yea, @@itsuk1_1, ich was in sooth bethankend Justice for makend us aware about that laziness. Fair enough!
You do have to admit the G11 had some pretty ass ergonomics.
Like, who just puts the mag release where neither hand can easily reach it from a resting position?
It's near its "ass". And that's an ass to unload, I admit.
Now you know why it was never implemented. It's a shitty weapon.
@@haramaschabrasir8662 it might be shitty but if i was to choose between a rusted AK or a G11, id pick the G11
@@nickm5419 But a normal, well-maintained AK will be superior
@@haramaschabrasir8662 more importantly it's overengineered and probably impossible to maintain by yourself (also expensive to manufacture, which is an even bigger thing)
as much as i'd love to see the world where G11 got into mass production just cause i think it's cool, i doubt it would've lasted a day in any military
I'm willing to give modded Fallout 4 a break. If that G11 has the ability to shoot lasers then the reload might have to be different for some made up reason.
It doesn't shoot lasers but I don't really care too much since it's by Sully and he know he goofed
If it's just shooting lasers, then this is more like the G1011 and those things are batteries, not mags. You probably don't need as strong of a locking mechanism at that point. Just firm enough to keep it in place and touching the contact so power transfers smoothly. But not firm enough to disallow changing batteries with a solid tug.
@@piranhaplantX it can be like the Volk in Infinite Warfare: an AK converted to pew pew
It might be automatic
@@eagan_1902 It actually comes with multiple firing modes! I forget how you switch between them (might be a mod) but you can actually swap between Semi, Full Auto, and Hyperburst. It's not in my current mod order sadly but I feel like when it was you could change it in the field.
I wonder what the G11 could've become had the project not been abandoned, because every time I see it, I think of the messed up looking P90 prototypes.
Maybe all these awkward ergonomics, the wind-up charging mechanism and the general ugliness could've been refined into something that actually looks, feels and works good.
We could've had another sci-fi, P90-style firearm on our hands lol.
I think so
Well there's the P50 by Kel-Tec if you want another P90 style weapon
That horrible mess called the internal mechanism would have to be redone
It was more an issue with the case less ammo than the weapon issues itself.
@@lightmetro7508 as far as i known the more "simplified" g11 was some prototypes called CAR, from the creators of that pistol PDW (the one in 7,92x24)

Man of his word
Roblox game called Phantom Forces, shows the usage of the Mag release button being used
To be fair, for a few examples they couldve been holding the mag release offscreen
As I've said it in another comment, it's possible. But it'd be nice to see it instead of hiding off-screen
i mean its accurate enough, you cannot see the offhand and cannot see whats happening on the other end of the gun so the inner imagination in me can just rpg as if my in game character is pressing said rubberized button to release the mag, other than that they pretty pull it out as you do just with more sense of urgency. there is only one or two clips i seen where the button was clearly in view and not being pressed in any way
overall a pretty cool vid tho
The problem with offhand reloads is you can see them "not doing it" at higher Field of View **cough** Treyarch **cough**
@@Jayalen there's a LOT of errors with high FOV reloads, they probably forgot about FOV sliders. you can see bullets just appear in the gun durning the revolver reload.
@@Cyann33andaThird I believe most animators are now taking consideration of high FoV settings and work their animations around it such that these embarrassing details won't be seen
@@Jayalen yeah i do see this, but i do believe that most games dont really consider FOV sliders, like in WAW the FG-42 the mag just kinda floats offscreen, hence why i was as precise as possible when trying to change my FOV
@@Krejii05 WaW came out at a time where devs don't take FoV settings into consideration
And Cold Wars solution for this was make it a bullpup and give it a charging handle.
They took the most unique features out of the G11 and turn it into a generic parallel universe firearm.
There again, I don't think it is based on the G11. It look more like the G44 from MGSV
The G11 already is a bullpup. Yes the magazine rests in front of the grip and trigger, but it goes all the way to the back where the ammo is loaded into a chamber behind the trigger and grip.
@@livingcorpse5664 In a way, yes. But what he meant is Treyarch turned it into an ordinary bullpup

Phantom Forces surprisingly has an accurate G11 believe it or not

God, I'm trying to conceive of a way to load this thing under duress and I'm drawing a blank, this is one of the worst ergonomic situations I've ever seen.
Yeap. If you're caught within enemy's crosshair and your space gun is empty, only a backup weapon can save you.
To be fair, the gun never made it out of prototyping, so the ergonomics and looks arent what the soldiers would have gotten. Or at least I would hope.
I think just grabbing it with your fingers below it and then thumbing the mag release with your trigger hand while yanking the mag out would work swell. Maybe that's just my long ass fingers.
@@someweeb3650 If your design requires minimum finger length to operate its a bad design :D
Having to take your hand off the grip to reload makes it a bad design anyways.
@@2MeterLP All designs have minimum finger lengths.
tbh i just imagine the mag release is not a thing and so when you aim down, the mag just slides out
Could be a friction fit like a RPG rocket.
Also, only BO1 and Sully cocked it (as of this video's upload date). It's another detail missed out by animators.
Lastly, this video has received some hate from animators on Reddit because many of them didn't knew about this fact before Forgotten Weapons' video and assumed I was dissing them for it. One of them being someone I used to have mad respect for (not going to mention who he is to avoid giving him free recognition).
This video isn't meant to offend anyone and I apologize if I ever did. My only intention was to educate on this little-known fact.

So, just wanna drop this. If people are wondering what the song in the almost last part of the video, its called "Stars" by Diamond Eyes.
Didn't care about the song but thanks for sharing
Anytime I see a G11 the only thing I can think of is
*”Got something to say before you die?”*
He doesn’t even reload it before wiping a whole team. Not like it matters anyways since the games a birds eye view perspective.
I didnt expect Korean RUclipsr Normal Suit facing this video lol
1:11 a legendary game little knows about
There is one instance of the mag release being pushed that I know of a reanimation of the g11 from the classic fallout weapons remastered mod for fallout New Vegas.
Do you have a RUclips link to that?
Edit: saw it. He almost did it correctly since you have to pull it out while holding down the mag. Still, good effort
They didn’t even try in Warzone, it has a curved magazine sticking out where the ejection port should be. They also neglected hyperburst even thought they have an an-94 with hyperburst.
Tbf, that's not the G11 but a "made in China" copy of the G44 from MGSV
would be pretty cool where in videogames when you’re done with the mag,
you press the button and the mag launches like an RPG
Y'know I had no real interest in this gun, it has terrible stats in most games its in, and the fact I just found out you have to wind it like a mcdonalds toy to charge it makes me physically ill. I feel like reloading it in any situation with that mag release placement would make your sidearm 13x more appealing to use.
It's up to one's preference. Personally it's interesting to me and I can imagine this in a Cyberpunk/Alternate History/Steampunk setting
@@Jayalen I do understand the appeal for the alien/strange weapon designs. I feel if you slapped a digital round counter on the side it would immediately fit in a sci-fi universe.
@@SharkWrestler Now you remind me of that gun from Moonwalker....

0:25 there's a g11 on a game on roblox called phantom forces
Idk what's more amazing, the fact that this thing has the strangest reload I've ever seen on a modern weapon, or the fact this thing even existed
I'm more concerned about how slow this thing is to reload
Thanks for telling me that! I knew that part was something special!
That fallout 4 mod is sick.
I remember back when the modders hadnt even cracked custom animations, now to have something so well done? I'll happily overlook the lack of a magazine release.
I suspect it's a game balance thing. Having the player raise their left arm to click the mag release button could add too much time to the animation, and in order to balance it they might have to make them move unnaturally fast.
Although I could see them fixing it by being inaccurate in a different sense- turn the mag release button into a mag _ejection_ button.
Maybe...
These are nice. I was trying to do a video like these.
Thank you!
Sadly I was criticized by some animators on r/HighQualityReloads for educating everyone on how it works :(

Break given. Already said information were obscure until FW's video
@@Jayalen yeah cool, I wasn’t having a go just pointing it out 👍
I can see why the G11 wasn’t put into service
All of these reload animations are actually realistic, it’s the fact that the release isn’t broken and can still be used as a gun which is not realistic
Today I learned how to reload a weapon that I didn't even know existed!
I think the problem is that they have to reload the gun in a timely manner and in a clean manner. Having the character hold the gun in a way that they can press the release and pull out the mag at the same time would have to move the camera down obstructing the vision. As cool as it would be to have a super realistic reload it would kinda take away from the fast paced action of some of the games.
Possibly because its the least ergonomic reload of all time that either requires the gun to be rested on something or the reload to take half an hour.
for when i eventually make my own game i will be absolutely sure to reference videos like this to get it right when i do the animations
Imagine being given a g11 to go to war with. Spending 40 mins trying to reload your rifle while the enemy romps with a simple surplus M16 or AK pattern rifle
I dunno much about guns but they could have put the button somewhere else? like on the side where your hand holds the front of the gun? or maybe underneath? or maybe instead of the button why not the trigger?, just a hole where you put your finger and pull towards you to realese the mag?
The 3D printed electric Blowback G11 looks sweet. Too bad regulations only allow semi auto over 0,5 Joule in my country.
In mine, airsoft is banned after some dumb kid shot another kid in the eye
NO FULL AUTO IN THE COUNTRY!!!
@@Jayalen wait the ENTIRE country?!
I really want to know who thought of making the mag release a push-button to the rear.
When wearing a flak vest and/or combat webbing during that time, sometimes your arms won't even allow the movement required to comfortably push that button under stress.
And this is the reason people should look up how a gun works when animating.
I feel like I'm some kind of FPS Guru now, as I recognized and played every single game that was depicted lol
1:01 Ah yes, Code of honor
I like to note in half of those examples you can't see the button, they may be pressing it for all you know.
One day I'm gonna make a game and put the G11 in it and the reload animation is going to be so unrealistic just for the sake of it
Never thought I'd see combat arms being referenced in a 2021 video.
I love how all the game devs put extra mags in the holding slots but they never get used
Agent Under Fire had this gun. Most other weapons in that game had a proper reload animation, but they just did the GoldenEye trick with the G11 and P90.
Just like the one in Cruelty Squad
Holy fuck. I had assumed the mag release was near the pistol grip. That is the most awkward position possible
never heard of the G11
but it looks like the closest thing to an irl minecraft modded block gun
I believe a mod version in FNV shows the release button being pressed,
But not held to release the mag
And this is the reason why i don't see this gun on popular fps games rn. Hope codm will add or mimic this gun to rip off my phone's storage for the reload animation.
Ignoring the CARV.2 (which is not the G11 but a bastardized version of Phantom Pain's G44), I think a more accurate G11 in the newer CoD games will have nonsensical attachments like a chunkier box magazine, an awkward foregrip, a bolt catch that won't make sense for fast reload... and angled backup sights which would be very uncomfortable to aim with.
reminds me of people pulling an AR mag out without touching the mag eject button
The airsoft first company to mass produce a G11 is going to be filthy rich
Also note that in BO1's campaign mode G11 appear only in the 'NUMBERS' mission (Kowloon, Hongkong) which is set in February, 1968. So that's mean the appearance of this weapon in the mission (and maybe the entire game, in overall) is completely anachronistic and inappropriate. Along with most of the weapons and many of uniforms and equipment in this game as well.
Thanks for the info, will work well on the FPS game i'm making
Would love to see it :)
Devs probably left out pushing the button to have regular reload times as other rifles in the game.
Tbh it could be off screen since it's such a big gun
Mm hmm..
man just after I release an animation mod youtube recommends me this lmao
I did know about the magazine release button but couldn't really think of a way to press the button without making the animation too long, but that 3D printed G11's reload could be a very good reference
tbh I mostly ripped the anim off of sully anyways

The G11 is such a weird gun. I actually thought it was a fake gun for a bit because of that stick magazine that goes in the barrel
I think the only game where the character presses the button is Deep Fear (not an FPS) but he only presses the button...pretty ironic.
you can still see the button in some of the models
I checked to see if your FPS Animator comment held true,
So I looked at the reload for the Roblox game Phantom Forces, and yup, even they forgot to add in the animation.
Cool design and looks like a blaster out of Star Wars (I know most SW guns are WW1/2 guns with stuff on them but still) but holy shit the ergonomics are weird. Still interesting to see someone point out that no one's actually done reloads on it properly.
Where can i throw a bunch of dosh for that EBB and kiss the creator's cheek for being brilliant ? Im dead serious need it
The Roblox game Weaponry uses the mag release in its G11 reload animation.
To be fair, a lot of these examples come from earlier games, and skipping steps in the reloads was not uncommon even for normal guns.
Yes I already said old games are excused. This isn't a video to mock them
From how complicated this gun is i think im glad that it was scrapped and replaced with the g36 series
I think the real question is why they chose the g11 over the xm8
I love both of them
xm8 is just a g36 after you get the lootbox and unlock the skin
let's just all agree that FPS soldiers press the little black button with their chin while aiming down the sights
As I said in the previous videos comments section. Make MORE PLEASE!
Whenever I look at those video, i feel like the lack of using the mag release in G11 isn't caused by lack of research, but game play and visuals.
With an average assault rifle, you expect a quick release of the mag (thanks to the release being close to the mag itself), put in a new one then charge it. Quick, straight forward and looks good.
With G11 you need to first hold the gun in a weird way in order to release the mag, remove it, insert a new one and then crank it like a Jack in a Box. Those things would make the gun reload at the speed of an LMG in an average FPS and look unappealing to a player.
then make it an LMG
@@Lavender_Fox true, more like an hibrid for a medium time reload, a decent magazine (dont remember if it was 30 or 50) and decent damage for high rate of fire

Im sure the other hand presses it as the animation is played out (bo1)
Possible since its off-screen (and the Korean guy at the end of the video have shown that you can press the release button with the other hand) but given that Treyarch is too lazy to even animate putting rounds in the revolver's cylinder, I doubt it.

i do wonder why a button of all things? if i were designing it i would keep it like that but instead of a button i would use a charging handle to release the mechanism which holds the magasine and have it pop out a little before i remove it and attack a new magasine in it wouldn't that make it easier?
