Thanks guys for a really good video, plenty of info. I'm thinking of cycling / camping the same route in July. Is the towpath ok for cycling on, from your video the surface looks ok. Thanks for any info you can give.
Hi Charles - yes if you have a hybrid/mountain bike/bike that can handle mud then it's cycle-able! We met many people cycling it ☺️ Hope you enjoy! - ellie
Hi Stephen, We always aimed to camp between towns so that we were far away from people, and so it would be quieter. In general the canal locks or harbours in remote spots were the best as there was plenty of space and well kept grass. Waterways Ireland who maintain the canal also take care of the tow paths and in general are very positive towards campers, as long as you're following Leave No Trace principles and not lighting any fires. We felt fine camping along it, and didn’t have any moments where we felt unsafe ☺️ - Ellie
Hi Mark! It's Levitstown Mill between Athy and Carlow. You can find more info from the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage here: www.buildingsofireland.ie/buildings-search/building/11903711/levitstown-mill-former-levitstown-grangemellon-ed-county-kildare It's really imposing, isn't it?
Haha how could we have missed them! The ice cream sugar rush must have meddled with our brains to forget 😜 We could maybe call all the Chorizo we ate as part of the beef jerky food group!
Not really! We do try and ask if it’s private land, so they’d know we’re there :) we have been pretty nervous though a couple of times, but thankfully no true horror stories!
Just found your videos and I think that I love this walk, too! Planning some trips to Ireland from the U.S. soon :) Thank you!
That's really great!! I hope you find our videos useful for your planning - and that you find Ireland a nice place to walk ☺

Is it safe to camp along the river barrow? Where are the best spots to camp, or does it matter where you camp?

You're missing your beer food group, your beef jerky food group, and your potato chip food group =)
