      An unfortunate reality of modern web apps. I remember back in 2013, Lingq worked perfectly. It had the same functionality but it was much easier to navigate! These days it's quite frustrating to use at times.

    Thank you Kyle. That was a very clear exposition of this LingQ program. As a 70 year old, steeped in the grammar learning approach, I have always been apprehensive about switching to a comprehensible input method. If I had my time again, I would probably give this Krashen / Kaufmann approach a try. I'm still confused about their definition of a 'known word'. How is a yellow word considered 'known'? Kaufmann seems to define a word as 'known 'if he has simply encountered it and stored it as a 'lingQ'. And why is it termed a 'lingQ'? Where does the word link to? Is it just identifying the fact that the word is linked to other articles where it will appear yellow as a word you have encountered and noted previously? You have great communication skills, Kyle. I'm sure you will do well in your teaching vocation. Thank you.

      In essence, a “LingQ” is just a word that you have seen before and are in the process of learning with repetition and context via words that you have already learned and understand. I don’t know why they call them “LingQs” specifically, but I would assume that it is because they are linked throughout the texts that you read.

    • @viridianite
      @viridianite 9 месяцев назад +1

      If I've to guess a "known" word is either 1) a word you know and have marked as known or 2) a word that you started learning and have reviewed enough time to be considered known, according to LinQ's SRS (spaced repetition system) algorithm.

    Scheisse!!! Das ist wirklich hilfreich! I’ve been studying German for a month and I am reaching A2 fluency with just duolingo und Pimsleur :).
    Duolingo is good for getting your feet wet in a language, a soft landing perhaps. Problem is, I’m at a level now where I can spot incorrect sentence structures in the lessons.
    I love pimsleur because I don’t have to actively concentrate, I learn by passively listening and my brain picks it up. I can speak sehr gut because of that app but, my speaking is better than my reading so I need to balance it out and this app will help! 😊

    This is great - thank so much! I have the free trial of LingQ and found the information they sent me about how to use it quite confusing and overwhelming, After watching your presentation, I am already able to navigate the website/app and make a start. I'm a bit confused about what you say about Playlists though - their purpose and how to create them as you sort of skate over this very quickly in the video.

    I'm so glad I found you!! Where have you been all my life? lol! Other people have attempted to explain linQ, but your tutorial video has been the best so far! I have two questions: (1) How do I know, before signing up, which languages have full support? Turkish is on the list, but how do I know I get full support, rather than partial support for that particular language? (2) If I register as a "beginner", do I have to pay again if I want to move on towards intermediate/advance?

In the section where you are looking at how to use lingq and specifically looking at individual sentences, you show options to translate, to speak, review vocab etc. All I can see on mine is tranlate sentence. Is this something which is only available on premium or only on certain lessons?

    Hey Kyle! Thanks for explaining in such detail, I picked up a lot of useful things.
    Do you know if there's a possibility to safe words in a sentence (longer than 9 words, as that's the limit for saving) that are not exactly coming after one another?
    I would like to safe for example only a (phrasal) verb with its preposition and nothing in between. I hope I've made clear what I mean...
    Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland! Du bist eine sehr sympathische Person und es ist mir eine Freude,dich bei RUclips gefunden zu haben. 🙏

    • @CauterizeKing
      @CauterizeKing Год назад +1

      When you click on a word, alternative selections appear below it such as the verb with its preposition. I make a point of just saving those two word blocks. For example in Danish I've saved the verb "beslutte sig" with its preposition "for". Really like this feature.

    Hi - very helpful, comprehensive tour. Can you comment on the number of errors in the app, relative to other language apps? So much of the content seems to come through API’s or other sources and people - is it really vetted well or is there a lot of junk?
    Also, is the “known words” list just your own subjective assessment of your understanding? No quiz engine or other, more objective way to see if you e learned a word? Thanks.

    Hello, thank you for this comprehensive overview. How do you save the translation of trenbarre verben in German? It seems there is no way to link the verb with its preposition at the end...

    • @kylanguages
      @kylanguages  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes this is a little bit annoying, I generally save the base meaning of the root verb and then add the translation as a saved meaning per separable verb that I encounter. I can imagine in the future there is will an option to multi select “words”

    What's your CEFR level in German? 18,000 words would probably put you around C1 or C2, right? Or does LingQ include every conjugation of a word as a separate word, so maybe that's not a precise estimate? Although you are probably much beyond 18,000 words five months later.

  • @sandytail3389

    when I import a video on utube about Friends series, I couldn’t find out the definition of slang and idioms the characters used. I think LingQ works out with words only.

    • @kylanguages
      @kylanguages  7 месяцев назад

      Try highlighting a few words around the slang term. This makes it’s a phrase and sometimes LingQ works better like this. Or go to sentence mode and translate the sentence. Saved meanings on LingQ are based on previous data. This might mean that the word has not been saved before. (Maybe)

    Thanks so much for the video! A number of LingQs for which I write a translation myself seem to disappear shortly after adding them, i.e. before I even close the lesson. When I immediately check a given LingQ after adding it, it does exist. But after reviewing a few other LingQs, that given LingQ has now disappeared. Or the extra translation I had just added has disappeared (though in that case the already-existing ones remain). Has this ever happened to you, or indeed to anyone here?

    • @kylanguages

      Hmmm interesting 🤔 I will do this myself for a few words and test it out. If it is indeed a thing I will report it to them at LingQ :)

      It’s been a long time since I used the free version. They might have limited it to entice people to upgrade sooner. However, if you signed up with my LingQ you get more time to use to app before you see this message.
