    Val explained Doc looking down at his bare feet and saying "Isn't this funny?" was how Doc fully expected to die in a gunfight with his boots on and yet here he is dying in a sanitorium in the ultimate final irony. For those of you wondering why Doc Holiday says "I'm your huckleberry", the best explanation I've read so far is huckleberry is southern slang for "right person for the right job". So what Doc is telling Ringo is "I'm the right person to deal with you.".

      @@reggreenslade5769 "Some folks think that Holliday may have said something else in real life. He might’ve said, “I’m your huckle bearer.” In the South, a huckle was a casket handle. A huckle bearer would be the person carrying a coffin, essentially a pallbearer.
      According to this theory, what Holliday should have said in the film is, “I’m your huckle bearer.” The theory goes that Val Kilmer accidentally said huckleberry instead, and the line stuck. There are a couple of problems with that explanation, though. First, no official copy of the script has ever been seen with the words “huckle bearer” used. Second, Val Kilmer maintains that the line written in the script was huckleberry, and Kilmer even titled his autobiography I’m Your Huckleberry.
      So what’s the truth about Holliday’s famous catch-phrase? Another Southern slang usage of huckleberry was “the right person for the job.” In both instances of Holliday using the phrase in the film, Johnny Ringo is hoping to spark violence. What Holliday is saying to Johnny Ringo is that if he’s looking for trouble, Holliday’s the guy to give it to him."
      He said huckleberry. And he meant it.

    Val Kilmer played the party perfectly. And the director knew that Doc already knew his moves. He showed his hand in the bar to Holiday as Holiday mimicked it. He knew how he would draw. When he swerked and said, "Say When" he knew his style and knew he had already beaten him.

      It was Doc’s accuracy too, not just how fast he can draw his pistol. He went straight to the temple, as even a chest shot with Ringo drawing that fast would result in him getting shot as well most likely. He had to take him out with the most debilitating shot, and shot from the hip where Ringo went higher (what he learned about his draw before) with his gun. Doc Holliday at least Val Kilmer’s portrayal did not play!

    Val Kilmer should have won the Oscar for his Doc Holliday role! And he says “I’m your huckle bearer” since huckle was an old term for the handle on a casket, which makes more sense than saying “I’m your huckleberry” 👌🏼

    • @robh913
      @robh913 5 месяцев назад +2

      From Urban Dictionary: Huckle bearer is a nonexistent word that is claimed to have been used in the South to mean the same as 'pallbearer' during the 1800s. This is based on the claim that the term huckle referred to a coffin handle. This term was made up out of whole cloth by a 'historian' engaged in blatant speculation after the release of the movie Tombstone, where Doc Holliday, played by Val Kilmer, utters the famous line "I'm your huckleberry." The claim is that the real Doc Holliday said 'I'm your hucklebearer." Some also claim that this is the correct line from the movie. It is all complete nonsense. There is no evidence that this term ever existed.
      "I'm your huckleberry" is a well-attested English idiom that was used during the 1800s and is still used in some parts of the South today. It probably does not come from Mark Twain's character Huckleberry Finn since it seems to have existed before the novel was published. It means "I'm your man" or "I'm the man for the job."
