    • @Mephora
      @Mephora 5 месяцев назад +8

      @@HamazuraGODWhat you do is solve one of them for one of the variables do that you have y = x +1
      Then you pretend that the y is a know quantity now and plug it into the other equation which if it's is x*y = 5 would turn into x (x+1) = 5
      Now you can solve it as a regular equation.
      Usually you can say that for each equation you can solve for another variable eg. 17 variables means you need at least 17 equations to solve the system

    • @mordorimzrobimy
      @mordorimzrobimy 3 месяца назад +5

      @@Mephora There is a different method, which I prefer.
      Say you have the following equations:
      5x+4y=7
      3x+12y=9
      you can multiply one of them so that the number before either x or y is the same in both equations, for example, multiply the first one by 3
      15x+12y=21
      3x+12y=9
      It is now possible to subtract the two equations from each other
      15x+12y-3x-12y=21-9
      simplifying, that's
      12x=12
      x=1
      Then you can substitute the x in one of the equations for 1 and solve for y normally
      5+4y=7
      4y=2
      y=1/2
      I prefer this method, as it cuts out a lot of annoying work with equations this simple, and it feels more efficient to me. There are also matrices for high level work, but I've never really felt the need to use them.

      There are two ways: substitution and elimination.
      Substitution would isolate y, making it -y=-4x + 5 which we would multiply by -1 and turn into y=4x-5. You would then plug that in to the top equation, get the answer for x, and then plug the solution for x in either equation and get the solution for y.
      Elimination would multiply one of the equations until a variable cancels out. In this case, it would be easier to multiple the bottom equation by 3 and have the y variables cancel each other out. You then add both equations. From then on you solve for x, and then plug in the solution and solve for y.

    • @Muhahahahaz
      @Muhahahahaz Год назад

      Third way: Put the coefficients in a matrix, and use Gaussian elimination
      (This is a general method that will work for any number of variables, and doesn’t depend on you “guessing” what to do with your next substitution/elimination)

      it's moreso the fact that they continue using the maths throughout their life unlike ~90% of people who barely use maths more complex that single digit multiplication and everyone carries a calculator with them (unlike what many people's math teachers told them) so you just forget it.
      I was the 3rd best maths student of my year in my years where maths was compulsory but the moment it stopped being compulsory I was just the best in my class cause all the other nerds went to the optional higher maths class, and now I'm not good or particularly bad at maths but I'm slow cause I couldn't be bothered learning to be fast
      all the people shocked at people having difficulty with the equations are either in or barely out of school or in a field where they use maths daily.
      personall the moment you go beyond/below whole numbers I could not muster the energy to even bother.

      Idunno bud, these are some *very* elementary polynomials, toys even, that anyone should be able to solve. I wouldn't expect you to be able to do it in your head per se, but it's reasonable to expect anyone who went to school to figure them out.

      also calling maths, of any kind, a toy is kinda condescending, it feels you're saying something like if you can't do it then are you even an adult, I'm assuming that's not your intention (I can't think of a reason to say it unless you want to belittle people, but I'm not all knowing) but I don't see any benefit beyond basic addition/subtraction and multiplication/division if your personal goals and/or employment require it.

      Friend, when I say toy, I mean that in the sense these polynomials are toy applications of the germane concepts, or otherwise tools for playing with so as to bolster understanding.
      As for the rest of what you've said, I really only have one point; why learn any language that is not your native tongue? Math is, at its core, a language just like any other, but rather than primarily conveying ideas between two persons, it conveys truths of the world around us directly. Is that not justification enough to pay it some mind, regardless of occupation?
      To put some perspective on the matter, the Hellenistic Greeks devised Mathematics, as we know it, as a philosophy first and foremost, a means by which we could commune with the natural world and with the gods themselves. To wave it away entirely is much the same as waving away the Philosophy of Science; it's ill-advised.
      Of course, all of this said, and at the end of the day, you definitely use math every single day in the most mundane judgements, whether it be deciding whether or not to buy that cupcake and accept the hit to both your wallet and waistband, whether it is wise or not go through the intersection during a yellow light, whether the weather calls for a coat or simply a light jacket. All of these are mathematical calculations you make intuitively, all of them "solve for x" polynomials.
      In fact, most ironically, your insistence that you don't need to study to math, that itself was a calculation you made, friend.
