    The point about reference is so accurate. I'm asked a lot from my art-mates "how can you draw purely on your imagination?", "I JUST DON'T!". The thing is, I know the basics like poses, anatomy, angles etc. So I just draw the easy not-detailed sketch with circles/squares and then based my knowledge of anatomy I draw it. If it's any existing character, I just look for pictures to get a reference on their clothing, unique marks etc. Basically, I use my imagination for only the scene or pose that the character is gonna be in, which we can all do, other than that, it's just experience and references. Don't be shy just practice

    I found this video to be more based on Creativity (which is based on "weaving" and structure), rather than Imagination (which is more "Lucid" in the way it comes together in its forms of ideas.) And that's more based on personal preference than in general. Though both cross general and preference depending on if souls share common interests. My cousin and I used to argue about imagination and creativity all the time until I figured out I was more creative and he was more imaginative.

    Holy cow.....That 3 forms of drawing from "imagination" It also helped me understand something you see I'm trash at drawing from memory this is do to me have a horrible memory like i did a test I'm like in the low 10% of people in the world when it comes to memory. However I'm better at Freely drawing if i have no idea what i want to make and i make it as i go it often looks better issues is......when i start seeing what i want to make I'm guessing this is where my weak memory starts giving me issues i have to try so hard to remember what something is like and since i have Aphantasia this leads to so many issues and my drawing comes out like a 8 year old made it......Sadly not really 100% how to improve now since i guess i should do more memory based drawings i guess to bad I'm so bad at them....but from what i hear you so do what you are bad at not what you are good at so yeah.

    • @Yominokun1
      @Yominokun1 Год назад

      Or use references. No hard in that. If you know your memory's your weak point, don't try to remember what to draw, but look at what to draw. With time and practice it becomes easier, but not if you train yourself to use the wrong things ;).
      Not related to art, but i'm not that great in memorization either. Yet a couple of months (ok, half a year) ago i decided to learn how to solve a rubik's cube. While i'm not great at it, i am a lot better at it than when i started. I generally have no idea of which specific moves i'm doing in a certain algorithm, but my muscle memory generally does know what to do, through a LOT of repetition. The moment i start to think of: what move do i need to do in which order, it all goes haywire. Same goes with drawing. Draw an eye from memory, and it'll look wonky. Draw 1000 eyes from references and base shapes, and your mind will start drawing an eye without thinking on what exactly you're doing. Don't try to focus on the details of: i need to draw this line here to shade, then this line here to shade, but more towards: i need to shade the upper half, and let your hands and memory do the work that way. Think of the general shapes, instead of trying to remember every little line. Most people who "draw from imagination" or "draw from memory", have a vast visual library in their head, and drew certain things hundreds of times, so it comes to them without thinking of the details.
      I know it might not make a lot of sense, but it's where most of my own improvement in anything comes from: repetition, references and trusting my body to do what it does without thinking of the details. Thinking of the details and every stroke, is where it starts to go wrong for most people.

    I have imagined a lot of amazing fantasy or sci-fi stuff while lying on my bed, during a meeting or driving but when I wanted transfer that idea into paper...I just couldn't. I couldn't even draw the basic shape properly.
    So, I usually tend to draw random stuff out the blue or something interesting that I just saw. I also noticed that I can copy things better than create something new ones. I recently have been copying some video tutorial on how to draw the human body poses. The figures that I copied from the video looked far better than the ones that I created on my own.
    I really like drawing from memory, though. There are many scenes in life that I wanted to put into paper. Most of them are very quick scenes by the roadside while I'm driving so I don't have the luxury of stopping quickly to take a photograph. Also people will get uncomfortable when we raised our phone camera at them.

    • @Yominokun1
      @Yominokun1 Год назад +1

      I think the problem here is what i have trouble with too. You may have a great idea, but don't have a clear picture in your head of what it should look like. That's where the references and memory come into play. The more you use references, and draw specific things, the more your mind gets used to drawing it, and the more accurate your mind's "visual library" becomes. But you do need that practice and those references. Describe something to the best artist, which he has never seen, or any idea of, and ask them to draw it, and you'll likely get something which isn't really good. Ask someone to draw a brushed metal pipe, who has never seen that, and it just won't work. Ask a metalworker who sees the stuff daily, and while not as refined, he'll have a clear image in his head of what it's like and with some practice will be able to get it down on paper a lot faster than someone who's imagining what it looks like.
      And as Draw Like a Sir says: don't run before you can walk. Well, it can be fun to try, and you can learn a lot from it too, but the basics will give you better progression. Even memory can be trained by that, since you can more easily remember a pose, if you have the right proportions and perspective in mind, and "just" need to fill in what you remember with things you know how to draw (be it a body, building, car, anything). In the end, everyone's copying real life (even if drawing completely random flesh monsters). If they don't, it just won't look right.

    Well I do it differently.
    The catch is it only works if you are really good at picturing things in your head, try putting at much details needed for your purpose. Like if you are drawing landscape, how many tress? What is the shape of the mountain? That stuff, really try to picture it. And then slam your head on the paper or iPad and it usually work out for me 👍🏻

    Wow ich bin richtig begeistert :D würde am liebsten unter jedes Video schreiben, wie verdammt verstanden ich mich fühle und wie hilfreich das alles ist! Dazu noch mit gutem Humor und super authentisch. Ganz ehrlich, wenn danach meine Skills trotz Übung und den Tipps hier nicht besser werden, liegts einfach an mir haha

    You, my friend, have opened my eyes. You made me realise that the biggest flex wasn't drawing from memory but the finished product itself.
    Thanks bro

    as someone with Aphantasia the thumbnail sketches is absolutely crucial to do anything. Simply because I can't even see the creative ideas I have and even still it's so incredibly frustrating when I can't even access my "visual library" No matter how many years of learning I have under my belt. Definitely makes me feel that I am terrible artist as a result! ;-;
    Great video though! Even if I have to figure something out differently than everyone else!
