Our hands ain’t clean in this. Not by a long shot.
@@No1sonuk Before making a comment like this actually understand history. Appeasement was necessary for two reasons. Firstly WW1 was still in living memory. Nobody wanted a rerun of the slaughter of 1914 to 1918 so the politicians played to the gallery. But secondly, and more importantly, Britain was in no position to go to war due to criminal neglect of the military, much like today to be honest. Chamberlain needed time to rebuild the British military and the only way he could do it was to play for time and give Germany what they wanted. By giving in to Germany in 1938 he allowed Britain time to get their military to a somewhat better position for when war actually started in 1939. Without Chamberlains actions Britain would have fallen in 1940, well to be more accurate have been forced to the peace table, and the world would be a very different place. Because Chamberlain died in 1940 he became a convenient scapegoat because he wasn’t around to defend himself and his actions were distorted and lied about. I have tried to think through this Nuclear threat from a defence point of view as opposed to the attack hypothesis. All I come up with is,' first one in best dressed',Which means the complete unannounced annihilation of the entire country that keeps making the threat before it carries it out because I can see no other defence that would work sadly. In other words doing this would render this threat impossible to carry out. Off course this means one must also know were the subs where at the time and other off shore counter threats and be-able to annihilate them at the same time, a big ask.Its a complex issue from the point of defence regards the humanitarian and legal prospective but I don't think the secondary reaction,'defence' is the option regards such threats unfortunately and thats the stage of reality we are at at present.
@@franzmenzies5268 You could be right the odds are not good to avoid retaliation.Tell me what defence does one have against an invader who sends nukes instead of conventional forces then?.Just sometimes outsiders are a good bet they pay huge dividends and in this case it very well could be humanities very existence. So I think those odds as slim as they may be might just justify the risk.I respect your opinion and I hope we never have to make a decision regards this choice.
Of course the threat of reaction is the only viable option. First strike that would be guaranteed to take out all subs etc. is simply impossible and is the reason even places like NK were able to get nukes: first strike simply is too risky and likelyhood of it failing are much higher than it succeeding. The cost of failure is also huge, so first strike isn't really a rational consideration.

Nuclear weapons should be stationed in Ukraine, never mind the UK. Ukraine gave up their nuclear weapons to Russia in a non military aggression pact with Russia, a pact that Russia has broken, therefore all deals should be now off the table between Russia and Ukraine.
Russia broke that agreement when they sold out to the CIA who started training , arming and funding their army in readiness for a war - the azov nazi’s under instructions from zelensky have also murdered 20000 ethnic Russian civilians living in the donbas

How about, and here’s a radical idea, we stop trying to actively start nuclear war? How about we admit our failings and provocations and broken promises and actually, hear me out here, listen to the grievances and try and get a negotiated end to a slaughter that we, by proxy, started and that we have actively encouraged and kept going. Our hands ain’t clean in this. Not by a long shot.
Appeasement didn't work out too well in 1939. What makes you think it would work now?
The truth is somewhat different to what you have been taught.

The danger with Trump is not that he would use these weapons, it is that he would withdraw any commitment to European defense, withdraw these weapons, which essentially is to agree that Russia should be free to do what they have been doing in Syria, Georgia, and Ukraine in the rest of Eastern Europe. He would present withdrawal of defense commitments as a pro-peace move, just like the Soviet Union used to do to try and counter deployment of nuclear weapons to Europe in the 1980s.

A poor bet. The retaliation is guaranteed.
No nukes. No nukes. No one should have them. Did we learn nothing from past history 💔
Don’t you think we should learn to steer boats before we start playing with pocket sized nukes. It’s like giving a kid a hand grenade before he can ride his bike. Fun fact: Zelensky has a gold fish called Captain Birdseye
It’s a deterrent and nothing more, NATO doesn’t need nukes to decimate Russias garbage military.
The wepons we have today as compared to that time in history are far more distructive. The leathality and infastucture damage left in its wake would take years then. So, yes, we have had many wars they just dont last as long infact were at a point where a global conflict could be over in a blink of an eye now.
Don't the UK already have them ??? They have them on their subs at least.

This talk about nukes prove one thing people here are ignorant the whole world will perish moving to uk does not make any situation better nukes to uk does not make it any safer
I have been thinking that with the possibility that the US will not support NATO and Europe in the event of a future European war, then the UK and France having an independent nuclear deterrent will not be enough, and if they choose to do go this way, other countries such as Germany or Poland should be prepared to go nuclear as well.
possibly the US has their finger on the trident button not the UK, so we would not have any say on other nucs. It does make the UK a front target giving the US time to defend itself.
