I am of Serbian origin, have been living in North America (Canada and US) since 1981. Serbia is considered by most of my Anglo-Saxon American neighbors and friends as the East of the West and by those from Asian countries as the West of the East. I personally think, after living more than 4 decades among mostly Westerners, that we are culturally, historically and civilizationally the EAST. We are the real Near East and there is nothing to be ashamed of or to feel inferior. It's not that great being a Westerner. Their false understanding that they are superior is the result of their bad school systems, political propaganda and non existing personal interest about other cultures and the world beyond the Disney World. The EU when it was the Common Market was only about trade between member States, it was nothing to do with internal affairs that were dealt with by individual Parliaments .
Türkiye has tried to join for about 40 years however, the excuses used by the Elites in Brussels are: Northern Cyprus ( Ethnic Turks have no right to their own Breakaway land , unlike Kosovo !), Türkiye is not a democracy , The Turks are not Christians, The Turks must only be friends with those that Brussels approves of !

As a citizen of Switzerland, we are surrounded by EU countries. It's difficult to say the least, like being in a school playground and having the bullies from Brussels constantly telling everyone else how they should behave, what their foreign policies should look like and making incessant demands e.g. "you must support Ukraine or else..."

Hungary receives investments from China to build factory for EV production and none from EU or US. China talks trade and EU/US talks war.

It would be the height of stupidity for us to join the EU in the face of a clear, economically much more powerful alternative such as BRICS, that respects the sovereignty of its members. The EU is in rapid and irreversible decline, having shot itself in the head in ganging up on Russia, whose inexpensive energy products and whose market it can't hope to replace.

BRICS has a younger population relative to EU and considerable Energy, Mineral Resources and a policy of non-sanction against BRICS member countries. Going forward the growth of Economy among BRICS member countries will outpace the EU and the US. The market access among BRICS countries members will promote growth that will not be available in the US led Alliances. So, if you are Turkey or Serbia, is it that hard a choice to choose EU or BRICS?
