@sneed feed Socialism is when the workers own the means of production.
The USSR for example does not meet this requirement. However, this becomes clear once one sees that its state ideology was marxism-leninism.
Marxism-Leninism is an ideology that combines state-capitalism with the dictatorship of the communist party. The party is supposed to transition the state towards actually being socialist.

Also, I love how gen-z screams "amplify black/asian voices", "listen to black people when they tell you about racism" etc. but won't listen to people who actually experienced communism (eg. people from easter Europe) and talk openly about how horrible it was.
I could spend 5 hours retelling stories of my parents waiting 3 days in line to buy meat or toilet paper. Or how they shared one orange between their family od 7 people, because someone from US sent them a package.

Tell "wokes" that ask a cuban what truly communism is. Or, that they ask a venezuelan, like me... or, maybe every single easter european that suffered from communism, chinese that grew up in China, north Koreans...
"Woke" people don't give a fuck about us, they just want to have always the reason and that they are never wrong... this isn't a true feeling of helping, it's them wanting to "feel" heard, they have attention issues, and they feel that they're useless, so "wokes" use this movements as an excuse to receive attention.
I mean, the majority of "wokes" are dumb and never listen to things they don't like, so they're man childs that don't have their own opinions, they copypaste famous movements and that's just it.

Let's get one thing straight. Communism IS better than capitalism, that cannot be denied. The only reason it fails is because unlike capitalism, it is almost impossible to hide corruption in a communist society. If humans ever become a mature enough species, Communism will be the de facto way to run things and that is fact. Capitalism works because it is very good at hiding its corruption and no country does this better than the US, the most hypercapitalist society that has ever existed. The US has an atrocious healthcare system, sky rocketing homelessness, no job support programs, an abysmal violation of worker's rights as well as no freedom for new parents to take leave from work to raise their offspring. DON'T blame communism, it is the government that f*cks things up, NOT communism. It is also funny how you attack socialism when literally every country that has socialist policies is doing better than the US is right now. I so sick of people not even knowing what it is they are talking about. EDUCATE YOURSELVES.

Imo some of what you're saying makes sense except you're missing one crucial point with your opening statement. No one is just a communist. Many of us call ourselves communists or socialists for the sake of simplicity but in reality it's a lot more complex than that. All Marxists are communists and socialist, socialism being the direct step after capitalism that was created to not only be able to survive and thrive in the face of constant capitalist imperialism and pressure being pushed down on them, but also put pressure on the capitalist system by merely existing. This is when the workers own the means of production (lmk if you want me to elaborate on the meaning of that), workers receive completely the fruits of their labour, minus a tax (put towards things that will actually help them like universal healthcare, education, in some cases food and homes aswell). None of what they generate will go to any higher ups, (unless that person chooses to do so via a democratic process in the work place (the democratic process is chosen by the workers)) which is what happens under capitalism, just simply look at how shareholders and many people at the top of the hierarchy recieved more than they produce. Most businesses would be voted on by communities based on their need or desire (depending on the material conditions of the world and country ofc, e.g. if the country were at war and were suffering severe shortages then many luxuries won't be voted on) and then would receive subsidies from the government (the money coming from their taxes). In this society everyone's basic needs of food, homes, education and healthcare would all be met except for in extreme circumstances.
Communism is a step then afterwards that focuses less on giving people money based on what they provide. It's difficult for me to explain really because I'm still learning ofc, but essentially the goal of communism is to make everyone's lives easier and better. In capitalism, automation is terrifying because it could put you out of a job, then you won't be able to afford your rent or your food or possibly your healthcare and education. In communism it just means everyone gets to work less, but the automated stuff produced still goes into their pockets if you understand. Under capitalism innovation in automation doesn't reach its peak because it is cheaper to outsource their labour to countries drowning in poverty with workers that are willing to work for dirt then it is to develop and maintain automation.
However you then move into many different ideologies like Marxist leninists, or Maoists, or Marxists leninists Maoist. Or guevarists or whatever you like. The left (the real left, not fecking soc Dems or liberals) is extremely varied with some people understanding the necessity of authoritarianism (Engels' "on authority" is supposed to be excellent, haven't read it myself tho) and others (imo naively) standing directly opposed to it no matter what. So if you think there is a catch to communism from a Marx's perspective, then go and plan out your own economy. Go investigate and see what you think is the smartest way forward. I think your best bet early on is to maybe read some Marx so you can understand why he believes what he believes and why he is the most influential philosopher ever.
If you want some reading advice I'll point you in the right direction. Sorry about the huge long paragraph, it's just a difficult conversation. As the saying goes, "it takes ten minutes to disprove a ten second lie".

They are correct in saying that "true Socialism/Communism" never occurred. Marx's work wasn't in agreeance with the Soviet Union or China, or "the state". A person shouldn't just passively accept the society we live in. Resources have limits in the end, and we have a very imbalanced way of approaching resource values/economy generally.
That being said, this need for a predefined "-ism" is counterproductive to whatever needs to actually happen to "balance and make competent of it all" in the most sensible way while maintaining a hierarchy of values. These people betray themselves by requiring some external "-ism" as a generic identity that can't be breached by greater reality. Even if this "Socialism/Communism" they speak of were to go into motion, they themselves would lack the actual force/power/arguments to lead it towards succeeding en masse. They'd very quickly, and very easily be usurped by powers that sought to exploit the nature of the "movement" by throwing the dog a bone, but never offering the real meat of substance required to fulfill the supposed "unified goal" that was there to begin with.
So, yes... history would likely repeat itself in some (simple way of saying it) sense. They wouldn't be in power in the end, but would be the serfs, the sacrificed, those incapable of sustaining. Essentially this "-ism" they push for would be their own Trojan Horse, their own undoing.

Spot on! It can work (which is not to say it is in any way superior to anything else) and has whenever there was sufficient social cohesion to do it. Buddist monestaries, Catholic Nunneries, early Mormon United Order communities etc... had "flourishing" communal systems because they had a goal larger than self that all rallied around. In a multi-cultural world that cannot succeed, like ever.
One of the things that the ism ruin for me is otherwise good concepts like equity and the balance of justice and mercy (neither robbing the other). Jay Hammond was a Republican libertarian governor for the state of Alaska. He was one of the key figures in establishing the Permanent fund. He did so with absolutely Libertarian (not Liberal) principles of the likes of John Locke who was arguably the most influential individual in establishing the economic principles of the founding fathers. He proposed going farther (and we should). The Alaska State Constitution recognizes that the natural resources belong to the people (and equally at that) and should be managed for their maximum benefit. By doing so in the manner the PFD does with oil, all needs to care for the poor, needy, sick, afflicted, touched etc... would be taken care of without robbing or taxing anybody (simply actually charging a rock bottom fair value for the resources they own in common). Alaska actually is rather attractive to oil companies despite this (so arguing that wont get you anywhere). There is no need for any ism, just true natural law principles like nobody stealing from anybody else can sort things nicely.

Please, help me out here... lol... because it seems like everything absolutes and generalizations for whatever some group does not agree with, yet if the group agrees then there is more nuance and those that are on the "outside" are ignorant and do not understand.
Hey, I agree, not all socialists believe in communism. And just because Lenin said one thing doesn't make it completely so. What it does show, however, is there is an agenda that people do believe and will follow. And if you further look into the communists philosopher's they speak of using socialism, democracy, and other tactics to achieve their goals. It is simply something to be aware of. Communists hate capitalism (which they invented the name, it use to be called Free Market Economics), and most modern countries that are claimed to be socialism havens (such as the Norse economies) do not reject capitalism but have a mixed "Free Market" economy. In fact they are rather adamant about NOT being called socialist economies.
So honestly, if you are a socialist or support such things, you shouldn't be against capitalism because the two can work hand-in-hand with one another, but communism will be destructive to both.

As a german with relatives, 2 uncles, in the German Democratic Republic (Socialist) at its existence till 1989, I can say: The GDR was a shithole. And the GDR was the most free and advanced country in die UdSSR. The environment was polluted in a way that was unbelievalble. The people heated with brown coal, the Power Plants also burnt brown coal. Every single house was yellow because of the smoke all over there. The sulfur in that coal you could smell all over the country. The rivers were polluted also with chemical sewages. And the people were poor. All houses exept those of the political leaders were old and run down, because nearly all were owned by the state and no one had an advantage to spend money to renovate them. Not the renters, and not the politicians, because they could not be voted out.
One of my uncles, Hans, lived in a small village near Dresden in his own farmhouse. In this small village there was no sewerage, he had - in 1988!! - an outhouse for toilette, no running water but a well behind the House, no telephone. And the house itself was run down because of the lack of materials for renovation. In the GDR you could not go to the hardware store to buy roof tiles. There was no hardware store. You had to go to the factory und you HAD TO HAVE connections or wanted exchange objects (as coffee, cigarettes, chocklate, bananas, oranges, cacao) because there were never enough roof tiles.
If we - my parents and me - as western german capitalists visited my uncle Hans the GDR border troops searched our car. Not for weapons or drugs or stolen money or something like this, something criminal. NO! They searched for newspapers and weekly magazines. The people of the GDR should not see the wealth in western germany. And the border was two high fences and in between a death strip with mines and self firing systems, every 3 miles there were watch towers with armed soldiers and dogs. In Berlin there was a wall instead of the fence. No one should leave the socialist paradise. And the GDR officials named this the "antifashist protection wall" (german: Antifaschistischer Schutzwall).
i do not understand how anybody today could want socialism or communism. They all know nothing about it. Ist ist horrible. And even in germany there are many young people dreaming of socialism. This ist, in my opinion, because of the leftist takeover of schools and universitys. They do not teach about how communism / socialism really was and is. in germany they teach a lot about national socialism, Hitler. But little of international socialism like Stalin, Chrustchow, Honnecker. Our kids know much about the Nazi concentration Camps and holocaust but little about gulag and holodomor. I dont know why leftist teachers do not tell them. Do they themselfes not know? Or are they evil?

Ironic isn’t, the German heirs to Marx finally had the chance to make a go of it and they failed. The Germans of all people can make everything better but even that had limits. There wasn’t equality and what finally put an end to it wasn’t the Wall coming down, it was people discovering Party leaders were corrupt and never practiced what they preached. If your own ideals weren’t good enough even for you, why should people follow them? At the time, at least people had the excuse they were living a dream that might come true someday. Today everyone knows it was a lie and there is no excuse. Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it.

He may have lived poorly, but he likely lived within the means of the nation's economy. The U.S. cannot escape this fate once de-dollarization occurs and most of the countries that it used for cheap labor and energy turn away from them. The people in the U.S. are already beginning to experience a normalized economy like in the GDR because it's getting more and more difficult for the U.S. government to steal other nations' resources and keep that Reagan high going, partying like it's 1989, and just generally getting a free ride like it used to. The GDR was poor because Germany was forced by the USSR to stop stealing other countries' human, agricultural, and land resources, and defaulted to a more neutral economy after the war. As much as I like consumerism, it isn't natural for one country (U.S.) to have the majority of the world's wealth just for having Wall Street on their geographic territory. It can't even get a rocket engine built, let alone sold to the Saudis or the Indians. What will its main exports to the Chinese and Indians be in 2030 (when these economies totally eclipse the U.S and Japanese economy), Influencers on TikTok, bad Hollywood movies, and Diversity? And once the Europeans run out of money for U.S. military bases as well as for U.S. "exports" (can you say sanction relief for Russian and Belorussian fertilizer that the U.S. can't seem to produce by itself?), the U.S. will lose its last remaining export market and then Americans's all over the U.S. will have to live like your uncle Hans, not because of communism but because that's what happens when you place all of your faith and children's future into a currency which is a paper tiger held up by military bases, economic blackmail, good faith and financial Wall St. speculation, and not actual labor or resources. Freedom of thought and speech also exist in the West for as long as the rich allow it, which is to say, until the country has enough money and stolen resources for the illusion of relative stability. Once people start queuing up for gasoline and for something to eat at the local foodbank with their entire family, that's when the freedom of speech gets taken away lest anyone start organizing workers' co-ops, labor unions, and a redistribution of stolen wealth.

As a former underground musician and party organizer I have lived in small squats and other commune like environments I can say that living and sharing with people is only working out in very small quantities of people.
The larger the group becomes the more rules are made.
You have people who are 100% against rules and fully ideological and driven to make the utopia manifest to show that people can live in harmony with each other ending up making schedules for cooking and showering, cleaning and all that.
Inevitably it will result in mostly the first residents forming a form of committee and setting up rules, deciding on new members, setting up financial rules.
People need rules, some people are going to slack off and freeload on the work more active members do.
    It's just human nature.
I am sort of happy I've had these experiences because I made me realize that there is no utopia or one size fits all solution to society and to think that we can just all get along is an illusion.
People need their own space and their own things. And they need boundaries and rewards too.
If we expect people to be responsible and helpful doing their best to keep the boat from sinking we're going to be disappointed.
If it's a struggle for 10 people to decide who washes the dishes than how can we ever expect thousands of people to share equally and respect each other.
I think the 'life is a struggle' mentality that our grandparents, great grandparents and those before had is a better mindset for us. They didn't expect any luxury, they had to work hard for every little thing they could get.
You simply have no rights or privilege, entitlement or securities in life.
If you're lucky and keep trying your best maybe you can get something going for yourself and those around you.
Communism is not compatible with human nature, it is selling individual freedom for faux safety to gullible people.
Don't fall for it, you think those on top share anything or redistribute their wealth???
If you want to get political and help the people than get into local governance. Help the people help themselves.

We're all marching right into their trap. And none of the people who are pushing this are poor and oppressed.
The people they use are poor and oppressed. And they're going to stay like that under a communist state.

I had started research and found a topic I was super interested in but my prof disapproved. She couldn’t offer me a reasonable explanation either. She offered the alternative of writing a paper on the “evil of capitalism”. Eventually I let her win and wrote the paper on what SHE wanted me to write. One of the strangest aspects of Marxist dialectics is the simultaneous strengthening of the state and the withering away of the state. The latter is supposed to usher in the Communist utopia. Never happens and in practice society always remains at the stage of socialism. None of the Marxist advocates ever tell us how we’re going to leave it behind. In the end the Marxist dialectic always results in the state becoming stronger and the tension between that and the ultimate abolition of the state in fact never materialises. We’re always told we’ll have a world free of alienation that’s a literal heaven on earth. What they forget to tell you is a heaven on earth had never been built on earth because human nature can’t be remade. That’s evident to everyone who has lived under a Communist regime. It would be terrifying if in America we had to relearn that lesson all over again.

Communism isn't supposed to be utopian. Humans are imperfect creatures, we cannot be perfect. Saying that a communist society would be amazing is not the same as saying that it would be heaven on earth. Also, the reason socialist states haven't transitioned into a stateless communist society is because of constant meddling and interference from capitalist-imperialist countries such as the United States.

I mean why would I want to go to university or trade school and put so much effort when I can pick a very casual job and get paid big. Its like getting a scholarship to university, even if you didn't pass the scholarship exam, you are given the same perks as those who read and put effort into passing the exam. If such occurs, most people won't bother reading because what's the difference. If no one farms or works well then the society will collapse with time.

We have advanced (thanks to capitalist free markets) society so far that about 20-30% of people actually do the work that goes into the life support system of the whole society.
These people literally have no idea what goes into putting food on their table or heating their roof, or even maintaining that roof over their heads.
In a socialist society, they think that everyone would be like them, because life isn't very hard.
Not realising that not only can life not advance as it is presently under socialism, but it will deteriorate to the lowest common denominator as it collapses.

Generally in agreement, though I'm from the UK where we have "socialist" things like national healthcare, which I think is great. But that's beside the point. The point I wanted to raise is when you questioned about where you would find your self-worth *without* a job? I find that a little sad, and I think this is where a lot of this anti-capitalism sentiment comes from in that the whole point of your very being is tied to what job you have. Nothing wrong with taking pride in your work etc. but it shouldn't be the sole point to your sense of worth.

    • @orangeairsoft7292

Yeah, I think extreme capitalism like what the US has is pretty bad in itself. I don't think any country should rely on one sole way of running things as there are many "socialist" things like good healthcare and affordable housing (even though it is a mess in Ireland atm). But there is a reason why young people (pretty much all of them in this video are from the US too it seems) want to oppose extreme capitalism since basing your self worth off solely your job is indeed sad, and her just calling it 'mental problems' 5:20 instead is a bit harsh.

Cubas whole economy was geared to america to be cut off from america is a powerful blow, to switch there whole system towards the USSR then get a nuke to threaten America to leave them alone. For america to sanction them all to hell, then the USSR fell and cuba agian took a blow on top of all that managed to create the best healthcare system in the western hemisphere, give food, water and housing to everyone and raise the highest literacy rate in Latin America is huge. And they did this as public enemy of the strongest nation in the world.. cuba is not perfect, far from it but did amazing considering the odds they were faced with and there respected all over parts of Africa and Latin America for there healthcare mission trips all over the 3rd world.

He wanted to learn how to fix color TVs, rather than just black-and-white sets, but the government wouldn't let him get the needed training because color TVs were a luxury item and there weren't enough of color sets in his area to justify training him to fix them. They could have sold more color sets, but the government restricted the sales of color sets because there weren't enough TV repairmen in Cuba who knew how to fix them.

most people arent working hard, theyre just working, you are gaining experience it all about the type, my friend started out in a driver day job 10 yrs ago working for the city, used the job $$ to educate himself and transferred all over until he got where he wanted to be in life, its playing by the rules that get you places in life, else got to jail and ya no one wants to hire criminals but ppl choose shortcuts, there are no shortcuts in life and wealth is gained with experience less its dumb luck, how valualble to the society do you want to be

@@invalidaccount2315 the thing with capitalism is that for some ppl to be successful, others need to be 'poor'. It's a pyramid where you have the 1% on top and everyone else on the bottom. The 1% did not get there by being an honest worker, that's what I meant by not playing by the rules. Yes, ppl can succeed like your friend and of course patient and dedication is key. But it is not a fair system overall since if we were all rich no one would work and the system would collapse, so there always need to be ppl poor and struggling for the system to run.

meanwhile we waste our best years of life , working and working hard, trying to survive, trying to achieve something so that maybe when we're older we'll have gained some wealth but by that time you realize how you have been a slave to the system for years. It's a lifetime of work with little fun or freedom.

@@marianagouveia1336 in a capitalist society, there will always be "poor" people because there will always be lazy people. Success and financial stability are supposed to be the incentive that drives people to work hard. Laziness and unwillingness to work should never be rewarded. "But they'll starve!" Yeah, so?

@@marianagouveia1336 i was homeless for 4 years, taught myself how to program with a panhandeled laptop at mcdonalds wifi, and now am in the top 15%, rich never stay rich, rarely more than 10% of the time is anyone in the top %, neither do the poor, it is a sliding scale and capitalism is the balance.
