    Hi Chris, just want to thank you for this video. I stumbled across it randomly and was surprised to hear you had exactly the same issue after I dropped my xf100-400! Like you, I look after all my gear, I was just unfortunate when taking my gear out of my bag. After seeing in your video how easy the process to get a repair done through Fuji, I’ve followed the steps to get it repaired! It’s now only £180 so looks like they’ve reduced the price a little. So I’m now waiting for them to send the packaging. How long from sending it did it take to get it back?
    Hope you’re still enjoying your Fujifilm gear

      No worries Mike. yeah looks like you got a good price on your repair, It take a week to ten days for the return think my was about one week 5 days.
      Hope this helps and good luck with it. Let us know how it goes.
      Thanks Chris

    High Chris, I had somewhat similar deal with my XT2 which just stopped working one hot day in June, shooting Marbled white butterfliesI with the 100-400 with the 1.4 TC on, this combination allows me to shoot from about six or seven feet, at F16 there is excellent depth of field and the image dosn't quite fill the frame and with a 30% crop you can see every detail, every hair on a butterflies body, sometimes the bristles on its eyes are visible!. Anyway, my Fujifilm repairs story, I started by ringing Fujifilm at the Bedford HQ, the receptionist answered within three rings, and put me through to Colin in the service dept, he answered after two rings!. I told him what had happened and we arranged for me to take the Camera in and when I did so a few days later the same receptionist called through to Colin who appeared within about five minutes, we had a very amiable conversation, filled out the paperwork and off I went, later that day, after I got home Colin rang me to say that it would cost the standard £240,00 , which I paid on the card. Three working days! later he rang and E-mailed to say it was all done and I went to get it. This time I took my older damaged XT1, I had dropped it, with the 100-400 on it, as it happened only mine dropped square on it's face, the LCD was shattered but still worked!, but although I could continue shooting the EVF wasn't working anymore, the eye relief was missing, as was the cover for the hot shoe and the little cap for the socket on the front above the focus selector last but not least the rubber skin had come off all round the grip!. This one also came back completely restored, this time for only £140.00, and also with an unconditional 12 month warranty, same as the XT2!. The XT1 also only took three days to get done, which may have been partly because they were not very busy at that time, but is still the most incredible standard of service to find in this country at this time!. The large white Heron you saw would likely be an Egret, Little Egrets are quite common here now, but if it really was as large as a normal Grey Heron, then it will have been a Great White Egret, there are more and more appearing in England now, they are breeding in several places!. Listening to you while I was typing this you were saying that you are getting very clear shots with this lens at shutter of 1/60th, reminds me of a shot I got in our garden at home of a Dunnock about seven feet away, at Iso 400, shutter speed 1/15th, 400mm + 1.4 TC(560mm), F16( because thats sharpest), hand held, and you can see every detail of every feather!.In general use I have the program 1 shooting control set for Iso 200, minimum shutter speed 1/60th sec. to shoot faster without having to be so careful not to move at all!, I've always assumed that this is what these lenses are supposed to do!. Cheers, Richard.

      Wow Richard great story loved reading it so much I read it again. I think Fujifilm are the best photography compony in the world today . They listen to their customers and act on what they want and need . I have just preordered the X-T3 because of this, and I am so happy to be a Fujifilm shooter . Thanks you very much for sharing your Fujifim experience with me Chris

      Hi Chris, I've been telling this story all over the place since it happened, it is so nice to have some really good news nowadays! and true stories are always the best!. I volunteer at a nature reserve not far from Ely, out in the fens, a place where the buffalo roam, (water buffalo), but they are just as good, they go into the reed beds, eat lots of reeds and stir up the mud in their wallows so they not only look lovely they do good work too!. Today I was mostly around the yard and office, where there is a garden area with a small pond, I was taking shots of Common Darter Dragonflies with the macro lens, got some lovely shots where you can clearly see the facets in the eyes!. Some Willow Emerald Damsels were flying around at the edge of the pond and while I was taking pictures with the 100-400 a kingfisher flew in calling as they do, landed, saw me and flew away again!, I just had time to see it go!, lots of butterflies too, Comma, Red Admiral, Small and Large Whites, smashing day in the sunshine! Cheers, Richard.

      ACP gopro session with a mount a couple of Mount adjusters and a bulldog type clip. All third-party go pro accessories. The sessions is so small you put it some very strange angles you just need the right amount of angle clips you normally get some free with the go pro or you can buy them on Amazon or eBay very cheaply I hope this helps cheers Chris

    See Chris, the reason you probably thought no more of it after dropping the lens is you are used to Canon gear! The Canon 100-400 bazooka would have just bounced a couple of times leaving a crater in the ground and everything would have been fine! 😀

      Insurance is for risks you cannot cover on your own. Otherwise it is a lottery the insurance wins... or leaves the business. Just makes you feel better being insured., If you pay extra for it you just loose money on average.

    i just thought if you buy a second hand lens and its under 200 pound when you buy it.
    it is not worth sending to fuji if it gets damaged may as well just go buy another one.
    and really it is only worth sending in if there is a major fault or it is just not worth the cost

    • @cppuk
      @cppuk  6 лет назад +2

      david photography good idea but that lens cost £1,600 new and £1,200 second hand if you can get one for £200 or less get me two.

    • @davidsworld5837
      @davidsworld5837 6 лет назад +1

      it was more down to if you bought any other lens not directed at this one directly as we know it is a very expensive lens.
      eg - on ebay the Fuji Fujifilm XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens (Black) is new 175 pound.
      there seems no point sending it if going to cost 200 pound to fix may as well buy another new one.

    • @cppuk
      @cppuk  6 лет назад

      david photography no it does not work like that in the video there is a table of Fuji cameras and lenses if you look for the items you need repairing then the price is at the end of the page each item has a different repair price pause the video and read the table hope this helps.

  • @MartyGerman
    @MartyGerman 5 лет назад +6

    VERY IMPORTANT!!!!
    STOP slamming the OIS element back and forth in the lens!!!!!!!!!!!
    You’ve dislodged it and by hammering it back and forth you are destroying it!
    It is THE most delicate part of your lens!
    Fuji suggests to transport ALL OIS lenses laying down so as to minimize the shock of setting down you bag roughly and damaging this very delicate element!
    Good luck but the force you put on it in the video is horrible! If you could ever see how weak the attachments are to be able to counter your heartbeating while shooting!

    • @cppuk
      @cppuk  5 лет назад

      Thank you Marty note taken. Thank Fujifilm for the great service they give. Let's hope I don't have to use them again. Thanks Chris.

  • @davidsworld5837

    200 pound and you get a free elastic band as free gift
    you said send off to insurer who and what cost. is the cover some insurers seem too expensive and you may as well just put the premium in the bank.
    i take then you pay for repair and claim back would like to know how fast they do this
    on cost 200 was there no were else that could fix no camera shops or was it that since you have insurance you just used them
    i bet it was a simple fix for them.
    i know what you mean you are so worried about it when i comes back and will it do what it use to do.
