You didn't really show what angle to hold the stick. Do you hold it straight up over your head and look up? Or do you hold it so the camera becomes parallel to the ground?
I have many tutorials that cover camera placement on my channel. It doesn’t matter really as the selfie stick will always be invisible. This video is more about fixing the bigger mistake :)
@@BenClaremont Cool, I'll check out some more of your vids. I'm new to 360 video as of today. The other thing I am currently wondering is: do I get to pick the first screen/angle of the video before people start moving it around, so it starts with them looking at me talking. Is that something done when I film or in post production?

Hello Ben, since yesterday i have the Xiaomi Mi Sphere + the Manfrotto Compact Extreme. When i make far-away shots it works great, but close up shots clearly show parts of the round Manfrotto-Head, where the xiaomi is connected to the stick. Do you know a stick which has a head which is as thin as the bottom of the xiaomi mi sphere? :)
Analysator I’ve just ordered the Xiaomi Mi sphere but also ordered the specific xiaomi selfie stick. It doesn’t extend as far as my manfrotto monopod selfie pole but the functionality of it is miles better. It has a button on the handle that controls the camera. Definitely worth a look.

True! I find monopods can still be a visible due to their thickness and feet at the bottom.. but i guess those can be edited out :)

Great tip.
I got a gear 360 if i shoot inline with the stick how can i recenter the footage. Is this a premiere capability only cos i cant justify that kind of cost is there anyway of doing this
Most cameras will auto level- I think the gear 360 should do it automatically

I spoke to Samsung who were pleasant, but useless. after tons of digging, the Gear does handle shooting like this, but it's all in the stitching and the options used when stitching. In the application you have to enable the stabilisation, this does more than smooth out the bumps, without this it will not apply the tilt angle you shoot with.
In the PC software, the same applies, you have to enable this as its OFF by default, can you believe, in the preferences of Action Director under editing, enable the checkbox entitled "Automatic Angle Compensation (360 only)". This too will apply the tilt angle and smooth the footage.

I almost bought a selfie stick for this because I was worried about using my monopod. I love my monopod (insert heart frame)
Charlie BZO selfie stick is worth the investment- it's way thinner than a monopod and only thirty bucks!
I thought I was the only who had a problem with the red dot on Theta S. Have you made a video about how to avoid that?
Nah it's unavoidable.. it's essentially a lens flare that you never know about until the photo/video is already taken! I'm sure they'll fix it with the next version.

+David Thomas honestly the Nano isn't really good for selfie sticks. Insta360 made their own but it's not cheap

the Insta360 Nano can be used Boy a remote control?
AhrKopter hey- firstly you'll also need to get the tripod mount for the Nano. Video will definitely work on a selfie stick, not 100% sure about the remote photo function. Will test asap.
LIFE in 360 hey- i use the tripod from the DJI Osmo but I would just like to take pictures where you can't see me on it or to hang the camera from the ceiling (sorry for my Bad english , i am from germany 😜🙈

I suppose the issue here is that by holding it this way is that it puts the stitching right over the person holding the selfie stick.
Not really unless the camera has really bad stitching. It’s never been an issue for me and I’ve tested with 15-20 different 360 cameras.
I'm using Ricoh Theta V.

Surely the mistake is you are using it length wise and not side ways. Keeping it straight actually means you cant see yourself at all !!!

@@BenClaremont I think we must be talking at cross purposes Ben. All I know is if the selfie stick is bent it doesn't show until a certain angle .
It shows instantly.. never bend it. Try for yourself and you’ll see :)
