- This is the great ending of the "Riley Wuz Here" episode on the Boondocks where Bob Ross and Riley get chased by the police for spray painting. The song is Today by Tom Scott, also heard in T.R.O.Y. by Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth.

"lets paint a picture of someone you love. Maybe someone whos not with us anymore." that still gives me tears
@Bill Dauterive Bill? Bill you can't afford a computer---where you at lol
Sure does...
"you mean like a fallen soldier?"
Bob Ross, without a hint of malice, chiding, or ill-adjusted ptsd: "yeah. that's exactly what i mean."
Bro I thought I was the only one
@@apexshinobi602 it’s surprising that the show, shows the parents but it’s also sad and shocking at the same time
"Looks like i shot the police, just a Happy accident, of course..."
"Now for those of you following along, you want to make sure to give that canvas a nice red coating for what we're going to paint today. If you don't have any Crimson red on you, feel free to get some by finding someone you don't care for and showing them a few of their... Happy mistakes. Preferably using a crowbar."
"Burgandy could work too"

This scene still sticks with me. This was such a nice scene to get from an Adult Swim show, good emotions and hell, even Granddad was tearing up and proud of Riley.
This episode is one of my favourites. Every show I watched in the past this episode from this one show just stands out. I LOVE this episode.
I've found over the years adult swim has found some interesting ways to inspire emotions in people.
He didn’t ask him to paint over his damn house!
But that thinking wasn't Robert Freeman..... It was Huey and Riley's parents...
this argueably was the best episode in the entire series. this in general was just one of my favorite shows of all time, spoke a lot of truth. gonna miss this.
turly touching I wish they came back to this kind of story telling in shows
I HEARD IT'S COMING TO NETFLIX SOON! [2021] I'm so excited!

im a MASSIVE south park fan. but this has to be one of the greatest moments in adult cartoon history. the humor, the emotions, the fucking music...maaan...its heartbreaking to see where this show ended up.
Kieran Maharaj I know, what happend?
+Big G Season 4 happened.
Moktadir Shourav Truutthh, but I would say it started slipping even in season 3
+Ignacio Varga This and Return of the King broke my heart.
+Erkin Mitsov I hated that episode what was the point of that?
no one is saying how much of a badass Bob Ross was
David Taylor They don't say anything because Bob Ross is a badass
David Taylor tbh, he was in the military for 20 years as a drill instructor before he started the pbs show
David Taylor It's cuz they don't need to, everybody already knows. It's common sense. Like "the sun is hot" or "you must breathe to live". "Bob Ross is badass".
"I think it's time we lost these guys." That's when Riley filled his respect meter.
Because that goes without saying.
Riley saying "If only we had a few more *hours*" along with his facial expression really shows that with the right influence and when given the right outlet, our youth can do more than try to imitate the commercially thug life style, they can make something truly beautiful with passion and its good to see riley had that chance
Definitely and I wished Riley tapped more into into 😊
"It's the police. I don't really like the police very much". LOL
Sick Mike then I am gonna drive pretty fast so we can get away from them. If thats ok with you
Carlos Meza “Yea!”
Sick Mike me neither!
Good…..Hold On
same here
Not only was this a heartwarming scene, but it was badass to see Bob Ross do this.
Bob got the blicky
It’s Boss not Ross.
Hands down the best episode of The Boondocks. What I loved the most was that Riley represents the typical troubled kid. Nobody believes in him or his potential so he acts out for attention. But here comes along this man who actually believes in Rileys talent. This episode was so beautiful.
N tha fact they make Bob Ross look like a straight g is dope asf .. rest in peace a man like Bob Ross
You can’t deny though that more often than not Riley is just an unrepentant little sh*t. Hell I’m writing a fanfic where his babysitter (but Robert calls him a warden) where the unfortunate teen tasked with making sure Huey Riley and Huey don’t kill each other is always calling Riley an unrepentant little sh*t (when off-duty), Riley in turn calls him “chilli cracker” on account of him being a white, redhead and doesn’t care for the older teen at all but when Riley mouths off to the wrong person his warden is there to save him from a whooping. He even tells Riley “I know *you* are not stupid, but you make stupid *choices.”*
Sure Riley has his good points but he’s still a little sh*t most of the time 🤣🤣🤣
This scene and the passion of Ruckus scene when Huey prays are 2 of the best scenes in the series imo
i agree completely
suber dan deadass bro those two episodes hit me the most
suber dan Lol I saw your comment on the other video
the ghostface episode is legendary
suber dan not an opinion, that's a fact!
*"Let's paint a picture of SOMEONE you love - maybe someone who is not with us anymore..."*
Being an artist who sculpts - That quote ALWAYS gets me... So I decided to make an art piece in memory of my father (died on Father's Day in 1987) after watching this episode the first time back in 2006 (watch it EVERY year on Father's Day).
Jaster Mereel for me, im gonna do a drawing of my dog Lily Pearl who passed away last month on May 13 2018, Mothers Day. She was 15 years old.
You're a real one
🙏🙏🙏
Sorry for your loss man.
Can I get an amen?!
1:26 when even huey reacts that way...you know its a big deal.
Or pretty much when he doesn't have that serious look on his face. I can recall a few occasions when he smiled
+JackTheGamer 331 He nevered smiled I just thought about that about Huey lmao!
+Sparlton (Spongebob) (Carlton) jeez what did I ever do to you?
yep
I never understood who that was was it granddad and his wife or his parents
It too bad that they didn't keep the art teacher as an ongoing character. He was a good influence on Riley and could have been his mentor in future episodes.
I kind of like mysterious mentor characters that disappear forever, it has more of an impact
I took this as the art teacher isn't real. Just a muse for Riley, for a bit.
His character model is in the background of a few future episodes but it’s hard to tell if it’s really him or not
Bob Ross: "And now, how about some happy little trees?" *drives into the woods to escape the police*
For those wondering whether it was Robert Freeman or his son, Huey's reaction at 1:25 gives it away that it's his parents.
Aaron McGruder knew what he was doing.
Yeah I always thought it was Robert and his wife until someone mentioned that the wedding dress was more 90s style and didn't look anything like a 1950s wedding dress.
Exactly...... I knew it was son of Robert Freeman...... The father of Riley and Huey.
The tears of Grandad and Huey's reaction.
All these years I thought it was Robbert but now it makes me even more sad
Not to mention Robert wore glasses in his younger years.
And the brilliance of this scene too is that Huey got stuck watching BET to try and understand it. He went from being a kind, compassionate and intelligent young man to a vegetable watching programming that was bad for him.
Whereas with Robert the memories of his son slowly came back, with Huey you see him snap out of it immediately. As if all the love and compassion his parents gave him came flooding back in that moment.
This show had a lot to say.
Sometimes it lost it's train of thought and ended up becoming a little too much like what it made fun of, but it was moments like this that showed what The Boondocks was all about.
very well put
In terms of "It lost its train of thought" that's definitely the defining words of season 4 lol
BulletCatcher123 boondocks was like Medea. Films based entirely for comedy for there's always an emotional message in there.
I wish the show had more moments like this in the later seasons. 2 and 3 were still great, don't get me wrong, but scenes like this really tug at you unexpectedly. Nice healthy blend of humour/sadness
Yea Season 1 was a humble and enjoyable season. I used to think it was boring compared to 2 and 3 but looking back, simple moments like this were so beautiful in the show. We really should've gotten better closure to the Boondocks, season 4 is just sad.
Color of Ruckus has some really emotional moments in Season 3. Gangstalicious pt. 2 from season 2 can bring a tear to your eye at the end when you think about how everyone turned on him and made him a pariah just because he was gay. Every season had at least one episode that brought out the thug tears. I do agree so far as this was probably the most touching moment out of all of them though.
@@JMammograms season 4 doesn't
@@windandfireproductions5358 i literally just finished the series yesterday, and man, it didnt matter what the last episode was about, when i closed my laptop, i was like: man that season was shit, but i guess id have to wait a while until i see huey and riley again. a crap season is better than nothing
@@windandfireproductions5358 Season 4 doesn't count bro, lol come on, all true fans wrote that one off.
the first time i saw this episode it brought tears to my eyes. shout out Tom Scott.
Beauty of writing
Same here I cried. Hands down became my favorite episode
Another great part of this episode is that we saw Huey being “dumbed down” by the media he was taking in. We also see how Riley changes when he has somebody there for him, instead of the media influences he has.
Seeing the painting I always assumed it was granddad and his wife and that Riley was painting a picture of the grandmother he lost. I don't know why their parents never crossed my mind.
Anya Bizengaust the photos was black and white so it was his grandad and his grandparents
@@marcusardeltaulauniumariot6744 My wedding was in June 2021 and my photos are black and white. LOL, come on, use your brain.
@Paulo Hernanndizz exactly
Goddamn I love this scene
you n me both, man!
stupidyutube9 fun fact they actually hired Bob ross teacher's
I like how they made sure you heard the T.R.O.Y. sample.
Jus Onexii It's actually the original "Today" by Tom Scott (1967), which T.R.O.Y. samples. Still a great song in its own right, but the original applies a little more to this scene.
+Raixor2nd the original today is actually a jefferson airplane song
Oh yea, totally forgot about JA's version. lol
out of all the episodes in boondocks this had to be the most emotional
One of the most memorable scenes of the Boondocks, especially while the song 'Today' is played.
love Jefferson airplane
@@drek273 Tom Scott
@@abigailarmstrong6280 Absolutely 😇
Aaron McGruder's desire to emulate Cowboy Bebop's awe inspiring beauty gets fulfilled so hard in this sequence. This is a masterpiece
This right here. This is the kind the shit that was missing from S3 and S4, it just didn't have the same soul. R.I.P. The Boondocks.
s3 didn't have any heart but was still gunny
+Jimmy Hopkins funny
+DefineAfroSoul Yea seaon 1 and season 2 are my favorites after that it began to be going downhill
Just season 4.
Crono nope
This shit really made me almost tear up. Boondocks is my favorite animated series and always will be.
+MrNativeBeatz stop frontin you know you teared up
daybreaK fuck you right smh
MrNativeBeatz right mines too
I tear up almost every time I see it. Hadn’t seen it in like 5 years till week ago and have watched like 5 times. Didn’t realize how masterful it is. I’m 38 & such a relief to tear up & not feel lesser cuz of it. Tells u something’s dope or real. It’s the sensation of being human & connected & maybe on some good ass drugs
The syncing was so perfect... as Tom Scott sings "I'm so full of love" it cuts to Bob Ross shooting at the police XD this show is so perfect
This show had some legit good feels.
Right in the feels.
"Thank you boy... ok out of memory. Start cleaning up."
Lmao grandad moves on quick
boondocks is so underrated
its hella funny and had a soft spot
this episode was written so well
I can't watch this now without crying and thinking of my great grandma. She earned her rest in heaven
Thats a shame , my great grandma passed tecently as well. Your grandma has a great place in heaven. May her temporary suffering turn to eternal happiness
This episode will forever remind me of my uncle.
The song used in this scene was sampled in "T.R.O.Y" by Pete Rock and C.L Smooth, one of his favorite jams.
"Maybe someone who's not with ys anymore." I miss him like fucking crazy.
When I first heard about this episode I thought it was sad. But when they zoomed in on the picture and I heard the guy say "let's paint a picture of someone you love maybe someone who's not with us anymore", and then I saw grand dad crying I was crying. Grand dad's always talking about all these women but then you see him tear up over the one woman he ever loved.
Rachel Creighton Huey and Riley parents
@@jonathanmcknight2453 has to be because why would Riley even paint his granddad wife to begin with
@@RheemQ to get his point across
@@KingShakakil We've never seen or even their grandparents mentioned except their granddad but, we've heard them sometimes talk about their parents which is why I said why would he paint someone he probably wasn't old enough to see? I mean we can assume their grandmom has been dead since before they were born.
@Ish Moore That doesn't even make sense the teacher said paint someone you love so how can paint someone he loved that he didn't know?
This "Bob Ross" version would make a GREAT protagonist for *Grand Theft Auto 6*.
i cried when grandad did.
Yo! So did I, this was a very good episode
"Ok. Out of memory. Start cleaning up."
This scene made me cry when I first watched it. This show is always surprising me.
Just watched it again today
First time I saw this I couldn't believe that scene! It was beautiful! Riley really dugged inside himself when the art teacher told him "Let's paint a picture of...someone who's not here with us anymore." I think I cried alittle when I saw this and Tom Scott song playing sampled by Pete Rock and CL Smooth and you hear the horns! I'm not sure but I heard rumors of the show that Huey and Riley parents died. When this show started I thought Huey and Riley's mom couldn't give her kids a better life so she let them live with their grandfather! Thought the father might've died before they was born!..Anyway I gotta feeling what Riley painted had to be his grandmother and grandfather! If anybody looked when Riley looked at some old photos from the basement they was black and white wedding pictures had to be in the 60's! I'm pretty sure if their parents were married their wedding pics had to be in the 90's they had color back then!
The Boondocks should've had a better last season! It seemed like it was different writers for different episodes putting a twist to their own creativity! You can look on wikipedia it didn't had Aaron McGruder in no writing category they had some chinese or japanese and american writers on this season! It was a complete waste! McGruder made Boondocks for what it is I remember reading them in the sunday newspaper when I was younger! He could've did one more entry to exit the season and forever.
This was one of the greatest episodes of Boondocks along with Wingmen!
+91Definite Word mate, this is the meaning of life man. Watching and hearing something this beautiful. I agree on everything you wrote! Aaron is Boondocks. It's just the way it is
I agree with you fully. %100.
@@hjalmarzolachristensen8080 thank you man I know I’m super late but I believe someone took this video off and put it back up again. But yea man this was one of the greatest episodes
@@WELSHGAMER99 thank you
@cali budz um I already explained that 🤨
At 1st I thought this was Riley & Huey's parents but it is later revealed that it was a younger Grandad & his wife on their wedding day. It would make more sense that Grandad burst out in tears & thanked Riley for the mural. Too bad not much is revealed about about Riley/Huey's parents though.
I don’t recall it later being revealed that it was his wife. I also know it has been 8 years since your comment was posted. I think both theories are perfectly plausible, with neither being more correct than the other.
@@solomonhayes9642 Nah man, it didn't need to be discussed that was a picture of Grandad and his wife Dorothy. Duh lol just watch the scenes with young Grandad and that's exactly him. There's no theory to it.
@@otakusamsay1953 theory is easily be countered by the fact that his son can look exactly like him. Like I said before, both theories are perfectly plausible. Thank you for your time, though.
@@otakusamsay1953 it was riley and hueys mom and dad Robert had glasses on when he was younger this gentleman does not also Robert is lighter than him too which means that's his son and his sons wife
This last scene, with the mural, made this episode.
Funny, a good message, and Bob Ross being a badass; this was a great episode.
John Witherspoon's, "Thank you, boy." sounded so genuine. He was an incredible voice actor who could make his characters go anywhere emotionally. It's a beautiful thing.
Rest in Peace, John Witherspoon
This touched my heart... held back tears when that "t.r.o.y." beat hit
novic hadebe 1:55
novic hader Well the" They will reminisce over you beat" was a sample but yesss. A classic both ways
this is the song "today" by Tom Scott, which Pete rock sampled to make troy
RIP Bob Ross, you were a warm light for countless people in this cold dark world.
One of the most amazing scenes/episodes in one of the greatest cartoons. Inspired to the day.
I don't know if it's the music, the characters or the overall atmosphere but this episode is amazing.
I'd say the whole thing
DeadbrainLives I think you are quite right good sir/ma'am
I loved this scene. It's powerful scenes like this that gives you a great and/or heavy feeling towards this and yourself, all while keeping it's comedic nature _(as seen clearly at the end of this video. It mixed in well, in my opinion. Hilarious)_.
Now, even though I enjoyed S4 of the Boondocks myself _(despite the many noticeable problems many people already pointed out that I can understand)_, there unfortunately isn't anything in there as great as scenes like this _(to my knowledge)_ that you usually get from the first and second seasons of the Boodocks.
+Solar Definitely. Personally the only episodes from 4 that really did it for me were Freedom Ride or Die, I Dream of Siri and The New Black. Meanwhile, Pretty Boy Flizzy is one of the most unnecessary episodes ever made since Tom, Sarah and Usher already exists and did the same job much better.
I love this scene. It was moments like this that got me into The Boondocks as an animated series. Powerful emotions mixed with some over-the-top dramatics to give a solid but enjoyable message, Infinitely better than the stuff being churned out by Season 4. Emotionless craziness for the sake of craziness.
Riley has much talent he can literally go to art school and become a successful artist in the future. He has potential.
Art school... successful artist... I think you mean a "commercial artist". Not the same, indeed mutually exclusive. Ask Carl Barks.
For a 8 year old who just recently started drawing, he is ridiculously gifted, it’s crazy cause I’ve known Riley’s in my life? The young wannabe thugs who are insanely gifted but just don’t know it some would even throw their life away which is sad, Riley may be a bit ignorant but he’s a smart kid and talented as well he could go places.
the license plate said trees xD
This scene is probably my most memorable one in the whole series, the music, the subject matter!
It's crazy this gets me every time. I saw my best friend drop dead 4 years ago to this day. I remember in school he brought a mixtape to school to let me here a dope new joint from Pete Rock & Cl Smooth
called TROY. Years later I put him on to the Boondocks. So this scene has a very special meaning for me. Rip Big Ho. See u on the other side.
this probably doesn't mean anything 10 years later, but i hope you're keeping well
When grandad tears up…. You can’t help but to choke up a bit…
amazing how much emotion was conveyed in this episode. Aaron Macgruder is an absolute genius.
Enough to make a grown man cry
This episode is by far my favorite Boondocks episode.Outstanding use of the music!!!
Forever one of the absolute BEST few minutes of animation ever produced
This is deadass unforgettable. I last saw this episode 5 years ago and I never forgot. Who’s chopping up the onions? 😭
This episode was so layered that it’s insane! Honestly too 5 best episodes
I was a kid when I first heard the song "They Reminisce over you" by Pete Rock and CL Smooth. That was when I was playing NBA Street V2 and I instantly fell in love with the song. A few years later, I was watching this episode on Adult Swim and immediately recognized the song, not knowing it was the sample.
This show was not only funny and great, it introduced me to a lot of great music.
You’re not alone, I also think of nba street v2 when I hear the sample/ original. Both really beautiful songs.
This...this right here is what made the boondocks
This is a cover of Jefferson Airplane's original, "Today." Nice.
So there's a well known hip hop sample that's from a 60's pop song that's a cover of another 60's pop song
This is actually a special moment in television
One of the best scenes in the show and highly underrated one at that.
I really didn't appreciate this episode when it first came out but later installments really made it stick out more. It showed that Riley was more than just a flippant wannabe gangsta, he's a kid with artistic talents who misses his parents (grandma?).
Between this and when Huey prays during the season finale are two of the emotionally stirring scenes in the show.
God, the first time I watched this scene I almost cried. But then when I looked back at it for a second time that was when I just bursted into tears, this scene just hits different this is one of the reasons why I love boondocks so much.❤️
I've seen every single episode of the boondocks and this is hands down my favorite bc of the wonderful BobRossian character with his gentle soul and deep down badassness.
This still makes me cry a little.
This scene feels... So good. It's just... The morning sun, the music... The bonding that clearly happened between "Ross" and Riley... Just... 10/10
if I live old enough to have kids I will show them the greatest TV show ever made 😄
man this scene is just so amazing ☺
it turns to shit after season 3
Beautiful part of a perfect episode. I really hope this stays up.
I was in 5th grade when this episode aired, I’m now 26 and had to bury my childhood baby sitter this past weekend, for her funeral I created a montage of all my friends she watched as children (who are now ages 33-16) all saying farewell and telling a good memory of her, but I opened it with the audio from this episode “Let’s paint a picture of someone you love, maybe…. Someone whose not with us anymore” 🥲 I’ve been making videos since 2008 and I never cried during editing until I threw that in there and played the finished product for the first time ❤️🙏🏾…. Thank You Aaron McGruder
Riley Wuz Here ~ "Let's paint a picture of someone you love. Maybe someone who's not with us anymore." Arguably Greatest Boondocks Episode..... 🙏🏾💯
As a kid of the 90s, I miss Bob Ross
Even in a show like the Boondocks, Bob Ross stays the fucking legend he is
"This ain't Beat Street..." 💀💀
This is probably one of the only Boondocks scenes that made me cry for a reason other than out of laughter
my favorite Boondocks scene ever.
I really liked this show as an 8y old kid, but rewatching it as an adult is soo much better. I didn't know who Bob Ross was until I wrote an essay about him in college. Knowing how similar BR was in real life just makes this pure gold😂
This episode was so hard bruh
I remember when Riley hated this Bob Ross guy but wow...
Also this was really emotional 😩
The portrait is of pops son, Riley and Hueys father. RIP
Pops we got it from here
I cried when I saw this episode for the first time!!!! I love the Boondocks
RIP Bob Ross & mad love for his family. Best Boondocks episode ever by far
This scene still gets me in my feels.
In my opinion, the Best scene in Boondocks.
Such a beautiful scene from one of the greatest shows ever created.
To mirror what others said...this has to be one of the best scenes...made me choke up first time...I was like...why am I crying during the Boondocks?!
Love the show...but this episode was really good
I absolutely love this show, and this episode is exactly why. Encourage creativity. Embrace love. And be good to each other. Our day in the sun will come and love can still prevail. I hope you all are finding better days, and I hope that even when things get shitty and tough that you don't give up.
Bob Ross is all about nature, even the gun of choice has to do with nature - the Desert Eagle.
Man this 2 min felt like 10 . Enjoyed the hell out of this episode
Shoutout to the creator for the song reference - They played the song "Today" by Tom Scott and the California Dreamers, the same song Pete Rock and CL Smooth sampled and collaborated on to make one of the funkiest tunes in hip hop history and an ode to the remembrance of Huey and Riley's parents "They reminisce over you"
We don't often get to witness perfection.
THIS was one of those times.
The perfect melding of story, animation, and music. ❤
Respect to Aaron McGruder.
Tom Scott for that solo.
And Pete Rock for letting us know.
Love how Bob's license plate says "Trees" lol
"i don't really like the police" in that voice is the most calm sentence with police i've ever heard
I revisit this scene and episode all the time just because of how much it made my day when I was younger and still does. ≤3 wouldn't know about Today without it, either. RIP, Bob.
I was raised by Republicans and Boondocks was one of the things that de-radicalized me. Thank you Aaron McGruder.
This brought tears to my eyes as well. A great episode.
God damn after all these years just realizing that T.R.O.Y. was sampled in. Just beautiful!
your half right T.R.O.Y. sampled this song which the episode used ruclips.net/video/KYKPc-DooNo/видео.html
I watched when it first aired, downloaded season one, and just watched the clip a couple of times today. Still get chocked up; awesome scene.
There are no mistakes,... just "happy accidents"
