I could really tell exactly where on the right finger do you pull the wall up. I think it is the middle of finger, I between the knuckles, but not sure:(
Great Video, Thanks for sharing. I am new to this as well. I already had the instinct to improvise the stick technique for smooth walls. When I saw you do it, I thought "I must be on the right track" - I was very pleased to you do that trick. I thought I might be "cheating" or something. One thing is for sure, that straight edge can deliver silky smooth and true/straight surface on that cylinder. Trick is to get both top & bottom of that cylinder to be equal in diameter.
ps, with you're suggestion "make your own tools" that straight edge trick makes me wonder, if not liberal, but conservative profiles could be used. - that thought just popped into my head just now... so.. I wouldn't know. I kinda think it would be a challenge to follow what I'd call a "potter's pattern stick" but..... who knows until you try for yourself, ey?

The wheel is a Brent C model with a custom front work board and splash pan that I built for it. Thanks for you kind words.
Thanks for the video. My 8 year old is super happy because I couldn't tell him how to start his new pottery working fase. Super helpful, thank you.
Really useful demo, Paul. Thanks.
Great intro video. What kind of wheel is that?
Nice intro to basic throwing techniques :)
What type of wheel are you using?
I'm terrible at throwing. I can make a beautiful vase. but, throwing always seems to be my downfall. These tips will surely help!!
