Where do the carbon filters go at end of life to stop all you’ve caught from going back into the landfill?

Is there a system like Part Number PRO-41310-A but without that "water softener" (mineralization?) element? I don't need it. Will it work if I remove it?

@weekendwarrior3420 we recommend using the re-mineralization filter for taste! After water has gone through reverse osmosis, many users find that the taste of the water isn't as they like because minerals have been removed from it. This filter ensures that essential minerals are re-inserted into the water to improve taste and health benefits.
