Had to take a moment to write a personal 'thank you' in the comments. This fix worked like a charm, and saved me the annoyance of always using my key to open the trunk, not to mention the money it would have cost to get it fixed by some shop.
Mate you are a life saver! had the same problem where the switch stopped working out of the blue. Took it to the mechanics, and they said I needed a new actuator and it was gonna cost me $700 and there is only one left in Australia.I told em I'll think about it. Starting looking online for pricing on actuators and if anyone else had this problem, and I found your video. Didn't think it would work, but I thought I would give it a try, better then having to pay $700. To my suprise, it worked like a charm!! thank you! It was a reallllll pain taking out that switch, it was in solid that i almost gave up, but glad i didnt! Thanks again!
The best way to inspect the circuit is by shorting those two wires for a second. Mine switch works, but there is no power to the actuator back. I inspected the harnesses, all good. The problem may be in a relay under the hood. I need to find where it is.
Hello, I hope you are doing great! I have a Hyundai Tiburon 2007 and the boot release seems to work because I can heart it send a signal or whatever it is, but it just doesn't open and I can still open it with the Key. The point is that I would like to use the boot release as well instead of always opening it with the Key. Do you think it's the latch in the trunck?
Hi! Soz for delay. So before I did the trick in this video whenever I tried the boot release I could hear the motor working, but it was a case of not enough current was getting through, hence what I tried in the video. Personally I'd try that before looking to change the actual boot latch mechanism 😊 in any case I hope you get it working!!
For any uk viewers: be careful. Plastic here is a lot more brittle due to the temperature so ive just easily split the trunk releae housing trying to pry the top of the button off...
Update: after literally snapping 80% of the housing: i got it off and cleaned it and it worked! But LISTEN BEFORE YOU DO THIS: he didnt explicitly say but there 2 clips top and bottom. Theyre very large, so put a lot of pressure with a long, thin and flat screwdriver there. And i used pliers to grab the housing, pull outwards but the door pocket will block you pulling it out so make sure to stretch that away a little so the actual housing can lift out. Then its plain sailing from there
I am one of those unlucky few who has not had luck with this. I took this as a first step, then jumped the wires directly to bypass the switch. Solenoid pops, hatch does not open. So, I leave the jumper on the switch, try jostling the hatch up and down, nothing. Needless to say, the key does not work. I have a brake light out and its causing me to fail inspection. I took some video down in the area from the rear access point in the rear boot. Nothing unusual looking to my eye. Thought I might have to take the entire bumper off and just go at the lock itself from the bottom and release the whole kit. You cant take the rear bumper off without removing the tires without a right hand angle adapter for a drill. Even a stumpy screw driver wont fit between the wheel and the bumper where a screw just had to be located as opposed to underneath it 2 inches down. Freaking cars man. I swear
Why do you call it a boot release, its a trunk hatch release? In the U.S. thats what we call that i guess you guise call it boot release in the UK which i find that odd.
If we called it a trunk in the UK we'd expect to find a wooden box. You guys call trousers pants, pants to us is boxer shorts or underwear. Fanny to us a ladies private parts where it's an arse to you. Go figure haha!

Wow it worked I was just inherited a 2006 Tiburon and the trunk release on the door sometimes worked, i did the cleaning and it works on command 👍👍

@@foehammer2003 legit, yet to do the sun roof control panel too..
Thank you, it worked for me, actually scared me that it worked. Thought someone was tryna open my trunk.
Haha I had a similar experience, I thought to myself is that actually my boot popping!? Haha
Did this on my 06 tibby gt, worked perfectly! Thank you!

@@foehammer2003 Thanks a lot! 🤩
Cheers m8. helped a treat.
Apparently very similar issue with sunroof controls, so thats gonna be a fun one 😅😂😂
Once you get to the switch I would of thought it's the same principle though, let me know how you get on, my sunroof was the same!
So actually to open the trunk both terminals have to make contact with each other, right?
Yeah you got it, it's just removing the corrosion on the contact to complete the circuit
@@foehammer2003 Thank you very much dude! You helped me solve a problem where a workshop wanted to charge me more than $50!!!.
amazing! thank you
You're most welcome :)
Thanks!
