I think NASCAR Chrysler and the Daytona Speedway really need to make an honour lap for this 500, maybe even with Richard Petty accompanying Eugene. What a beautiful piece of history you all have restored here!
I try to imagine restoring a 2022 hellcat 53 years from now , and not seeing it , to many wires computers and all the other electronically controlled items , and have everything work ! Great video guys
That car is going to be much better built than any factory vehicle. They were under time constraints pushing through as many cars as they could in a day and a lot of guys on the production line weren't personally invested in the job in the way that you are. Top stuff.
Mopars of this era were super, super shoddy off the assembly line. I know they look cool but these were not well built cars. They didn't last and they rattled right apart. Rusted right out. Body lines all over the place. I've visited many car museums and when look at original ones, you can tell what these were lol. Well, they were built for boomer kids. They were not high end cars, so I mean it stands to reason. Mopar did build decent cars though, and those were the ones the boomer parents drove. Of course, they don't have cool styling like the muscle cars.
Wow! The 500 has come a long way in a very short time. It is amazing how the Charger's looks have change, with the installation of the dash, and some of the glass. A big Thank You to Robert, Nick, and Manny for all of your hard work making the Charger look better than new!!! It is a pleasure watching you work together, you guys are the A-Team for sure. Robert you did a magnificent job on the dash, it has never looked better. Nick I'm glad that you are feeling better, and sounding like yourself again. My voice used to do the same thing when I was in Alaska, a humidifier really helps this from happening. You guys just made my day! Monday mornings are always better with hot coffee, and Nick's Garage!!!
The craftsmanship, conversation, and production of this video are top-notch. I'm also very proud to be a Patreon supporter of Nick and his terrific team.
Great job you doing there Nick. Reminds me of the 5 years it took me to restore my 71 GTX. Attention to details makes all the difference and you have excelled in that area and I commend you for it.
This yellow car, event if it's a "500 Edition", reminds me a lot the 1974's movie "Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry" --- Nick, I hope you will have the chance to do a road test before you deliver it. --- Again, Good Job guys ! 👍
Right at 30:30, nick hits the nail on the head.. you can feel his anxiety throughout the vid, wanting to work.. but his humility is stronger than his pride.. that’s a lesson that cannot be taught.. well done, Sir
That’s funny! My girlfriend was nice to let me take apart my clock on her kitchen table. She didn’t complain and I was really happy. I mean old iron is such fun to restore!
Nick, your playing your part today of being a boss, supervising with a cup of coffee in your hand. Manny and Robert did a fine job installing the dash. Eugene’s Charger 500 is coming along nicely and it looks great!
Great show, I saw a Charger 500 from a distance looking at the grill and thought it was a Ford so I kept walking. So I have never have seen one up close.
Eugene's Charger is coming right along. With the installation of the rebuilt dash (which looks better than new), this completes another stage of the car restoration. I too can not emphasize the importance of correct wiring in the dash. Nick is correct when he says the dash is the brains of the car. How many times have you seen a freshly restored car sitting on the auction block trying to get sold, & they figure out a tail lamp is inoperative or a blinker has gone on the fritz, or the wiper blades won't turn off when you tried them. Your climate control is controlled thru the dashboard & most of the issues start right there. A pinched wire under the dash can lead to a short & all kinds of problems further down the road. The underside of this dash looks totally awesome. The painstaking work it took to get it to this point is beyond comprehension. Over 50 hours. Eugene is one lucky man. He picked the right shop to do the job.
Yes, but I’ve heard more than once that dash work is the worst of all! Let me elaborate… if you don’t remove the seats. and if you don’t take out the dash ( only the most die hard people will be able to get to that point) it’s a back- twisting leg-kicking, wrist slicing, upside down dark and dusty nightmare!
…. I wish I had the patience and the time to do it the most bestest way…. But I’d rather just drive it everywhere! Thanks for all the uploads Nick’s Garage!
A lot of people dont realize the weak spot in the wiring is the little fiber paper insulator that goes between the instrument gauges and the instrument housing mainly the Alternator gauge and amp gauge . the fiber insulator over time will deteriorate and cause the threaded prongs on the back of the gauge alonge with the wires to ground out on the metal instrument panel and causing the wires to get hot and melt and cause a possible fire . happened to my buddys General Lee I had to fix luckly only the gauge and 3 " s of the factory wire had to be replaced . I ran a strip of high voltage black electrical tape on both sides of that paper insulator behind the amp gauge
Watching Nick,Robert, and Manny is like watching Professional Craftsman...the added attention to detail goes way beyond anything I seen before in alot of shops . Nick's Garage is one of a kind in Expert Knowledge and Repairs...keeping that ol Muscle New and Alive . GREAT JOB !!!
Thank you Robert! I wish I had known (or even thought about) the trick of "hanging the dash" with the bolts and the extra hook for the times I had to remove and replace dashboards in the old days! It would have saved me hours of hassle, banged / scraped knuckles, and 'blue' comments coming out of my mouth! Once again, I realize I had forgotten (in my youth, and stupidity) about the K.I.S.S. Lovely to watch this complete build and seeing a dash put in with only HAND TOOLS. Not to mention the beauty of this dash when completed will just POP! GREAT to watch ALL PROFESSIONAL people contributing to this great build. Thank you Nick's Garage and friends.
The 150 mph speedometer brought back memories of my 1970 Duster 340 but the tach on the charger redlined at 5000 rpm, the Duster 340 was 6000 rpm and it saw it many times. I am sure Eugene had many good memories with this car and will again, thanks to you Nick and all the guys who helped you. Better than new. Hello from Ontario.
Ooooo. It's finally here. The dash going in. Iv been watching and waiting. Took off work early today just sit in my air condition home theater room to watch this on the Big Screen. So awsome seeing this going in. Congrats on an awesome build Nick and team.
looks amazing with such attention to details 99.7% of ppl wouldn't bother with and the dash hook to hold it in place is something I learned today.Happy day the dash is done.
What a pleasure to watch tour episodes, Nick! To see a couple old friends together on a classic as epic as this is heartwarming. Thank you all for your efforts. Eugene is a blessed man.
Great milestone completed on this build. GEORGE... missed your narrative voice in this one. Make no mistake... your presence is "signature" to the channel's content and integral to its success. Looking forward to your return in future videos. 👍
This Charger is a mint. Nice to see Manny doing his excellent work. I hope George is well behind the camera as well. Original and old, well not old but old buddies are still here.
Man this was a rare thing for Nick and garage to put up never worked on a dash now I feel love for my 67 Ford Fairlane 500 here I come I will tackle this job my self thanks guys ....
It motivates me to get under the dash of my 67 Camaro Rs,I have a few things to tidy up.I think I will remove the seats, getting a little old to be standing on my head 😂
The Dash job... a work of art. Well done. The dash is the place where the driver interfaces with the cars functions, and can thus see what is going on IN the cars brain, and heart... and muscles.
I restored a 1971 cuda... 383 4speed. I was at the shop super late & tired the last night before I started the car. I had bought new harnesses from Year 1 and got the dash n wiring hooked up. Then I put the battery in, went to start it and saw the smoke coming from the engine bay. I was so tired and wanted a positive boost, so was pushing it. I installed the battery backwards. Cooked a bunch of the new harnesses ! Man, I was bummed. But... took the time to fix it all & all was finally OK but... well... live & learn. Nice car Nick & gents.
Ahh.....a brand new dash with everything bright and clear carefully installed and confirmed that everything is hooked up right. Good job guys 😊 Now, windows, cranks, handles, panels, steering wheel. Getting closer.👍👏
It sure is nice to be Eugene, right now, I certainly looks like it was worth the wait, that is a beautiful thing, great job guys. I am a guy who loves to drive these cars, but when a restoration goes this far, it is almost too nice to drive, the first stone peck, I would be in tears, just awesome Nick. Paint and body had to be some where around $10,000, it looks like wet glass.Awesome.
Cast aluminum covers were the best for curing leaks. Put many of them on Pontiac's after people had destroyed the original ones over-tightening them and distorting the area around the holes.
I'm watching you guys on tuesday, but I'm truly enjoying seeing this car come together. Every piece that goes on makes a huge difference. I love the color, yellow was my wife's favorite color, she had a yellow bug, then a rabbit then a GTI . t The yellow with black accent is strikingly beautiful. Eugene will be so happy and blessed to get this car back home. Cudos to you and everyone who has touched this ride from start to finish! You too George!!
Thanks for posting yet another excellent video Nick featuring Eugene's sharp looking '69 Dodge Charger 500! Eugene's going to be driving the best looking '69 Dodge Charger 500 around after you and your excellent crew get done with his car!
Morning Nick, Manny, Robert & George, man that dash looks awesome Eugene, Robert you did a top job restoring it to perfection. Hey Nick its starting to look more like it should as more pieces get installed too. Eugene you must be a very happy man about now seeing that dash finally installed aye. Take care and stay safe all.
Gooooood Monday morning, everyone!!! I missed commenting on last week’s video (enjoyed it tremendously), so I gotta make up for it this week lol. Such a tremendous privilege to see this automotive masterpiece coming together at the hands of this multi-talented, multi-faceted team, led by Professor/coach Nick Panaritis!! Gooooo team!!!! Happy week, everybody!!!
Another great and informative episode! Just a thought…. Can you get a Friday night live with Eugene on web cam to hear the 500 story from him? I’d love to hear the story from his experience on purchasing ,driving and adventures he lived in it !
This has been so exciting watching the 500 come together. Eugene is a very lucky man to have his original car come back to life better than when Mother MoPar built her. I'm so happy for him and wish I were still in Texas so we could go for a cruise. I'm sorry, but I'm not a big fan of the yellow. Maybe when she's all together, running and in the sun I might change my opinion of the color.
Great job Robert did on that dash , he is an artist . Just amazing work he did on that dash , no doubt it is better than new . The first thing to check on an old car is the wires . This Charger is better than new every wire and connection is how it should be . Congratulations guys and Eugiene
@ Nick's Garage, and @ Eugene Castles ... here is an idea ... IF Eugene agrees, I think all of the 'major players' in doing this restoration should 'sign in' with their signatures, and the date. Permanently on the car - maybe inside the trunk lid, with black paint marker pens. A Memory & Tribute to all of the skills, hours and determination to "get it right, and make it original".
I think it is a great idea Doc! If the entire restoration is being recorded for posterity. It is appropriate for each Craftsman involved to sign off on their contributions. Showtime, Oliver, Manny, Nick, Vassilis, Nicks's brothers, anyone who was on deck when all hands were needed. After Kowalski, this has been a tremendous labor of love, the likes of which you rarely see.
Thanks Nick for your passion in restoring all these cars, especially this beautiful Charger. Thank you Eugene for your service, and thank you for restoring your Charger. I wish I still had my '70 I bought new I loved it, I can't wait to see more. We need to see you take delivery when she's finished too .
Restoring 1965 coronet and I just installed my dashboard last week, also seen that the reproduction glove box used in that charger was made a couple of miles from my house in Pennsylvania. Thanks for the great information and videos. Stay safe see you in Carlisle pa this year
Beautiful job on the charger dash you all are skilled workers. The charger 500 is a beautiful car restoration. Looking forward to following you as you put the car back together piece by piece. Love your video you guys really spent lots of labor and extra time to make sure everything is right.
Nick the 500 brings back a lot of memories for me. Never owned one, worked on them bumper to bumper. Yes I drove them to check my work however they were a very fun ride!! Owners drove them hard, so did I!! What i enjoyed testing the most were the polars. I was a speed nut. They had a 220 speedo and would bury it. Nothing like a 440 interceptor. Took 10+ miles to stretch one out. If I had known then what I know now might never have been 200+. O'well I was fortunate!! My Dad was a mopar man drove fast every were he went. Thus so did I.. That 500 is a show winner!!! No doubt about that!!!
Robert, excellent craftsmanship! I know George is a pro at video production but I gotta tell you, I had a freakin’ panic attack when I saw that camera on the hood! Have a great week everyone.
Not to worry Don. It was a very small camera on a clean, purpose built automotive magnet. We all treat every inch of the car with total respect. Thanks for keeping an eye on us.
Nick you were talking about the vacuum lines for the hide away headlights. I had a 1970 Challenger with the Slap Stick shifter. You know on the 1970 they had a shift linkage that came up and moved the part of the steering wheel that would have had the column shifter as well as the linkage from the Slap Stick to the transmission. Why I do not know. When you would shift the car at the floor shifter the column behind the steering wheel would move also. The transmission went bad and the shop that replaced the transmission threw that linkage away. I looked through their trash for it but it was gone. The mechanic was looking at me like I was crazy. The car was only 7 years old at that time and people just didn't worry about restoring 7 year old cars.
@@nickpanaritis4122 I was too young to know what it's purpose was. I know the 1972 Challenger had a thing on the steering shaft that you would slide to the right to remove the key and lock the steering wheel.
Goodmorning Nick & crew. Everything looking good. Can't wait for final test drive! Keep up the good work. Nick I would like to say to u, your shop is the type of shop I feel like I could roll my toolbox in and start working, feel comfortable in. I've been wrenching my whole life. I know a real shop & real people when I see it. This is why I & I'm sure everyone watches you show. Enjoying everything you do,have a great safe day boys.👍
Good morning Nick and George, I've been waiting to see the dash getting installed, it's getting closer, and closer, very cool.
Right you are! This was a big step.. so many pieces. Thank you for joining us again, Sir.
Good Morning to you Eugene.
Good Morning to you and all of Texas.

Another great installment. The videographers, editors, and producers are doing incredible work to bring this to us.
Yep, Well done George! 👏
Talk to the kids about window winders 🤣

Eugene's Charger is coming right along. With the installation of the rebuilt dash (which looks better than new), this completes another stage of the car restoration. I too can not emphasize the importance of correct wiring in the dash. Nick is correct when he says the dash is the brains of the car.
Robert and Manny are the best. I am so impressed with their skills and knowledge plus they just seem like nice guys and you too Nick!
To Nick and the crew, the charger is coming along nicely can't wait till early spring!

Nick, you have an awesome crew working on a beautiful car!
As they say, the dash is the brain of a car. Nice brain!
The piece they threw out was for the shifter to lock with the steering column. 1 year only. 1970.
@@nickpanaritis4122 I was too young to know what it's purpose was. I know the 1972 Challenger had a thing on the steering shaft that you would slide to the right to remove the key and lock the steering wheel.
Fantastic work , the Aussie chryslers are built exactly the same . That's one beautiful car, wish they made more .
Good morning Nick and crew! Glad to see the Charger coming together! Bill from Linglestown Pennsylvania
