Sale Of The Century Australia Promo History 1980-2001

It’s one of the greatest Game Shows of all time Sale Of The Century based on the U.S. show that aired on NBC between 1969 and 1973 and the Australian show the Great Temptation airing on Channel Seven between 1970 and 1974 hosted by Tony Barber it was one of the most successful Game Shows of the 1970s which saw Tony Barber win a Gold Logie in 1973 Sale Of The Century debuted on Channel Nine on Monday July 14th 1980 hosted by Tony Barber and co host Victoria Nicolls with announcer Ron Neate and became the most watched Game Show on Australian TV getting huge ratings for Channel Nine after a few weeks Ron Neate was replaced as announcer by Peter Smith in 1982 other co hosts over the years including Delvene Delaney from 1982 to 1985, Alyce Platt from 1986 to 1991, Jo Bailey from 1991 to 1993, Nicky Buckley from 1994 to 1999 and Karina Brown from 2000 to 2001 in 1991 Glenn Ridge replaced Tony Barber as host of Sale Of The Century it has produced some of the greatest Game Show players of all time with the likes of Cary Young, David Bock, Vince Smith, David Poltorak, Virginia Noel, Fran Powell, Kate Buckingham, Robert Kusmierski, Sandra Oxley, Len Keating, Tom Beck, Simon Fallon, Maria McCabe, Louise Williams, Ben Wong and Andrew Yeend just to name a few it lasted from 1980 to 2001 with the last episode airing on Thursday November 15th 2001 there were plans to revamp Sale Of The Century in 2002 with new hosts, new set, new music and a brand new format it would have returned in mid 2002 but Shafted the show that replaced Sale Of The Century in the 7.00pm time slot flopped big time and was replaced by Fraser which got great ratings that caused the Sale Of The Century to be delayed and wouldn’t come back until 2005 as Temptation The New Sale Of The Century hosted by Ed Phillips and Livnia Nixon it lasted from 2005 to 2009 at the Logie Awards Sale Of The Century has won 3 Logies for Most Popular Game Show in 1982, 1983 and 1984 it was also nominated for Most Popular Game Show in 1985 and 2002, Most Popular Light Entertainment Program in 1986 and 1987, Tony Barber for the Gold Logie in 1982, 1983 and 1984 and Karina Brown for Most Popular New Female New Talent in 2001 this video looks at Sale Of The Century Promos from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s Sale Of The Century is recorded in front of a LIVE studio audience at the legendary Studio 9 at the Channel Nine Studios in Melbourne this is Sale Of The Century enjoy the video.
