Good on you for revisiting the MKII during all the Gen 3 hoopla. People should deep dive into the gear they already own before leaping around from gear to gear.

This sounds too good man. You’re the only person whose presets I paid for… I think it’s because you actually use these live!
I'm using sneaky amps on a mk 1 head and using the Airstep Kat footpedal. This lets me program the amp via bluetooth from my phone using the Katana Librarian app, which has the sneaky stuff built in. The Airstep also lets you switch 5 effects instead of 3 on the Mk I. I feel no compelling need to upgrade to the II or the III.
I use my Katana 50 Mk2 for practice at home at fairly quiet (70db) levels. At what level do you use it for a band rehearsal or gig? Is there a level at which it changes - 80db, 90db, 95db?

Katana with an upgraded speaker or an external one is such a great all-in-one solution. The speakers those combos come with sound really uninspiring, so if there's anyone who's not enjoyed the Katana experience, that's the thing I'd suggest. A guitar, a Katana 100 with a Celestion speaker and the GA-FC foot controller (+ a clip-on headstock tuner) is all I've needed for gigging recently.
I really like the Waza speaker in my 2 Katana Artists. The new Gen 3 Artist also has it.
Agreed. As mentioned, the Waza speaker in the Artist model sounds fantastic. The Artist is about $200 more than the 100, which is close to what it would cost for a quality replacement speaker-- and that's why I went with the Artist model. That said, the standard speaker in the MKII can still sound really good with a little tweaking to the global settings.

Just as an FYI (that you may already be aware of) - you don't need the FxFloorBoard software (which, good as it is, I don't find quite as comprehensive as the BOSS Tone Studio) to access the SNEAKY AMPS. They are also available as two .tsl files that you can just import into the BOSS Tone Studio and select from there - two files because there are 30 different amp sim types and the .tsl file limit is 15.
They are basically remnants from the older BOSS amp sims that BOSS used on their COSM effects engine in things like the older GT-series multi-FX and BRxxxx portable multi-track recording desks.
I can't understand why BOSS didn't just include them as standard on the Katanas, they only add a lot more flexibilty to an already very flexible platform.
I can't confirm, but apparently the .tsl files don't work on the Gen 3 models - why not BOSS 🤦 🤷♂️ ?
If you review the Katana Head Gen 3, can you share your thoughts on how it pairs with the Boss Katana 212 Waza Cabinet vs other cabinets with V30s etc?

Congrats! I've got the MKII version and really enjoy it. Maybe next year I'll be able to add a Gen3, then run the two in stereo :D I'm sure you'll love the new amp-- enjoy!

But as how limited the guitar effect on it and i wanted to allocated most pf the block on my SY1000 to the synth side i figure i just might as well get this.
I run my SY1000 thru roland KC too.
I should also get the Artist and a Cab. It's not like I need it, and it's not like I can spend my money on more important things, but still...

T-Amp is a 3A channel of Hughes& Kettner Triamp, i would wish it would have been 3B channel which is my favourite lead channel, incredible attack with sustain, not compressed at all.
Like clean channel with tons of distortion, if that makes any sence 😀
What happens with the hidden amp features if you save this as a mkii TSL file and then inport to the katana Go?

Some videos are saying the sneaky amps aren't usable in the new Katana Gen3 models.
Probably true, as I suspect the gen 3 is based on the newer AIRD models not the older COSM models.
I need to investigate that - will report back tomorrow!
I haven't seen it said that the models are any different - they've just added the extra Pushed setting?
@@johnnathancordy I haven’t seen anything specific in reference to AIRD, however Boss does talk about “refinements” to tone etc. the Anderton’s video does a side x side comparison and claim to hear differences in sound signature ( I can’t tell via RUclips). Also, the gen 3 vs mk 3 suggests a bigger change than just a new model added plus Bluetooth. My speculation could be wrong, of course, but it seems logical that they would have incorporated the newer modelling vs the older stuff. Plus it stops us hacks from meddling with the software! Looking forward to whatever you can find out!
I think they'd make a bigger deal of it from a marketing point of view if there were all new models? That's my hunch on it at least! Will report back if I find anything!

Such a missed opportunity. The katana Go has a small LCD screen that allows for a tuner and to see what effect is selected so you don't have to carry a crib sheet to see what effect "yellow" is. It's their own design! Why isn't it in the Katana? Such a shame.
This is why I haven't used anything else since 2016

If you’re buying a cheap utilitarian amp for its resale value, you’re doing it wrong. The ROI for a Katana is the use you get out of it.

@@leoolivero963 what does that even mean? Weirdly, all the big retailers are selling used mk II’s for *checks notes* more than nothing. Meanwhile, they haven’t disintegrated either, so the people who own them are still using them to make music.

Boss's new Katana Gen3 sounds great... so does your previous gen setting! As much as I'd like to bring home a new Katana, family priorities has a hold on my money LOL! Thanks for reminding folks that the "old" models still have life and remain an excellent option for making music-- after all, that's what it's all about-- right? :D

I had the opportunity to play through the Katana a number of times. Sounded very digital to me. Very uninspiring.
It is not digital. It is solid state. Only the effects are digital, and most are anyway.
So tired of fake musicians pretending they know better than millions of users. Are they listening on cheap cell plans with compressed data perhaps or just malignant narcissists acting like they are smarter than everyone else? Why are they watching videos about solid state amps?
