Marty Music Les Paul !
Marty Music More than a Feeling solo by Boston?
Like choosing between a blond & a brunette, too hard Marty, double the fun, and double the rock & roll! Both rock big time.
Marty Music Strats /:
nice shirt marty
Marty when doing tone comparisons it would be more effective and helpful if you played the same chords and riffs.
Off course lol
Wonder why he doesnt do it
I was about to say that .... read a few comments first 🤣🎸🤟🍻
Yes marty they need to be compared with the same songs/ riffs melodies
I thought he must be stupid in a special kind of way.
I can't compare completely different songs. I'm with M Rock here
SG. It's a versatile guitar, a bit underrated to me.
So true
N Wibawa real shit
It's more popular overtime than the les Paul
William Wingo yeah I read somewhere it was the most purchased guitar over the les Paul in 2016
@@budheavy5462 I like them better myself solely because of the neck and how easy it is to reach the last frets
Angus Young and Tony Iommi VS Slash and Jimmy Page
EDIT:
To all the butthurt fanboys that's says something along the following lines:
"slash isn't on the same level as the others" (maybe not, but he's one of the most famous Les Paul players)
"Jimmy Page used a Tele in the studio" (I know, but most picture him with a Les Paul or his EDS-1275)
"Slash and Jimmy Page used double neck SGs" (no, that guitar model is named EDS-1275 (EDS=Electric Double Spanish) has nothing in common with an SG except for the shape. The tone is even more similar to a Les Paul due to the increased mass)
Please remember that I just named two of the most famous/legendary users of each model just for fun. Don't get your panties in a twist
Tony and Angus would eat Jimmy Page and Slash for lunch.
@@mainstreetband622 angus by himself would
Page is a better guitar player and songwriter than Young, Iommi, and Slash put together
@@jimmymash6863 Exactly
Wait..I thought I saw Page play The Rain Song in a double-necked SG..so there goes that argument.
Tbh, the SG kinda has a more killer sound on distorted bridge pickup. And I love that kind of sound.
I’m a fat AC/DC fan so I’m biased but the SG is just iconic and it has a really thick and dense rock tone
1:43 it looks like the guy in his shirt is strumming the guitar
Lmfao funniest shit ever
I thank you for showing this, could've never noticed, this is amazing, I can die in peace now😂😂
Lmao
Thats amazing
You mean Bob Dylan?
>Has an SG
>Doesn't play any Black Sabbath
.....boi.....
Still subbed tho
If You play BS you get demonitized right away
I mean he played acdc
At least he played acdc
Trackerrzz _ hey I said that
He plays ac dc at least but I do agree
these thumbnails are getting out of hand
Ninja Bear this guy knows
Haha I'm loving them
Ninja Bear eh their cool
ha ha ha, I'm mixing them up.

Not a very good comparison, unfortunately- he didn't play the same material, which disrupts continuity. Switching pickups midway through only makes that worse.
siriusisastar I’m pretty sure these videos are just for him to show off.
Yeah this is a brutal comparison. Not to mention his tone makes my ears scream
Winston Churchill- if you want to see him “show off” go watch his hardest guitar tutorials. Dude has every right to show off. Besides this is a very helpful comparison for people deciding between the two
I agree, remember the original SG was a Les Paul. Biggest difference is the amount of wood used. I also agree he should have played the same tunes at the same settings.
@@route66kicks55 No it isn't. All he explained were the bodies and the prices, and then went 'Did you hear tonal differences?' Obviously, yes, but if that were all an SG could do, only people into heavy metal would ever use it, but of course that's not the case. Same for Les Paul. Both have multiple genres they can play, so why not play and explain them?
I can afford half a SG or quarter of a LP, so I go with pedals then with invisible Gibson...
Gibson Air Std
How about an Epiphone then?
Gibson is a Gibson, Epi is an Epi. Some don’t find it as alternative to each other.
I prefer the SG more. I have longer arms and the neck is set farther forward and that makes it more comfortable for me to play. Plus, the SG costs about an arm and a leg less, weighs a shit ton less, and still sounds pretty much identical to a Les Paul.
I can totally agree on all points except that it doesn't sound identical at all in my experience... unless you can point me to a particular SG that does? My Les Paul is a beast to lug around anymore, so I'd be willing to give another SG a try. I tried making the switch years ago and ended up eating the restocking fee to return the SG after comparing it to the sound of my Les Paul.
WayneMandible all guitars with humbuckers sound the same. Grow up
@@JakobSeidl I am grown up son. Your comment indicates you obviously have no clue. Every guitar is different and has unique sound quality, even same models can vary! If you can't hear the difference then go slap some humbuckers on an old Kay plywood guitar and enjoy your awesome sound :).
Well, the cheapest les paul is cheaper than the cheapest sg im pretty sure
@@TerracedMckenna I think you are right... but both are pricey.
I prefer the sg because I play a lot of heavy blues (ZZ Top, and cream) to hard rock with Black Sabbath and AC DC. You have a lot of options with the sg i love it, I have a black one, and it sounds kick ass with distortion.
It can sound kick ass with clean tone too! They are such magnificent guitars. I LOVE mine with the gain up and a bit of reverb. The great thing about SGs also is that they sound great with a variety of amps whereas the Les Paul only sounds good with select few and doesn't pair well with Fender amps.
I’m coming from my first strat and loving my HSS because of the humbucker. I’m looking at a better quality fender strat but SG and one of those double cut PRS in the lower price range are the two others I’m choosing between for an intermediate guitarist who needs one guitar for blues, rock, funk, and your old fashioned harder but not metal rock. Which of these three would you consider?
SG for comfortability and ergonomics, Les Paul for tone.
Dagger 323 Get a sg and put your fav pups there
Unless we talkin’ the Tony Iommi sig SG, in which case we got the best of both worlds
My conundrum is that the SG is so light and easy on the back (and looks so cool), but the richer tone of the LP almost makes up for its weight. I think the SG would benefit from a slightly more substantial body, but that would change its character. The LP is almost perfect except that it wears me out after a set. Tough choice. So I alternate 'em. The LP is better for clean stuff, though, so for jazzier stuff I pull up a chair.
A Les Paul Special (with humbuckers) splits the difference.
I have both: a Gibson Les Paul Custom and an SG Maestro Vibrola 61. Until the end of 2020, I was playing non-stop with my Les Paul; however, when I bought an SG in October 2020, I immediately fell in love with that piece of Mahogany/Rosewood. It sounds so direct and into your face and on top of that, I prefer its clean sound way more than on the Les Paul. My opinion. :-)
Always liked and preferred the SG! Pretty versatile, comfortable and a good tone too xD
CharlesScaleModelling I find the SG a lot more comfortable to play than my old Les Paul. I don't understand why people are always complaining about neck dive. I don't have that problem at all with mine. Maybe I just have a good strap, I dunno but its never been an issue for me
I own 4 'SG's and none of them have 'NECK-DIVE' and never did. The new 'SG' HP'ss with the G-FARCE tuners have NECK-DIVE-itis but not the Trads.
Both are great guitars its just i like the sg's tone.
Just bought a 2018 Gibson SG Standard and is just perfection in guitar form. Not neck heavy. Works awesome.
Anthony Cool
I just picked up a 2018 SG also. It’s my first guitar. Now all I have to do learn how to play it. I’m 54 and always wanted to learn.
That Les Paul is beautiful!

DOUG SHELTON JR. But which tele though?
I know what you're trying to say. But actually, I think Teles have the edge for blues, too. ;-)
Marty Music 😂 he might be I'm late but good vid 😊
The SG is so universally versatile. I’ve seen blues players play SG’s, and I’ve seen death metal players use the SG. Such a beautiful tone, and Guitar.
May the shwarts be with you!
Learned to play guitar with you and papastash,ND still going strong, thank you for your time and help.
haha
I thought I liked everything more than an SG until I actually played one, so comfortable, so versatile, i love it. A lot better than Les Paul to me :)
Likewise I never thought too much about the SG, until I tried one. I like the attack/bite, weight, balance, neck attachment and fret access. Although my Les Paul is better for some musical styles (where a warmer/richer/fuller tone is beneficial), overall I prefer the SG. At nearly 10lbs, my LP feels like a boat anchor compared to my SG at around 7lb.
@@SaxJockey I'm at the doorstep now. Never had a desire to play an SG...now I def want one. I had this same relaization with strats/teles awhile back. Just own one of each....LP, SG, Tele, Strat, Jazz/Jag style
Yep. I always thought the SG was just an uglier, worse version of a les Paul. But I recently got a brand new Epiphone SG Muse for Christmas a few weeks ago. And it just blew me away. I went to the guitar shop not having anything in specific in mind. I had an idea of trying a few metal guitars like ibanez and Jackson because I always wanted to get a super fast playing metal guitar but then switch the metal pickups in them for something that's more vintage, like some Gibson PAFs or the Seymour Duncan seth lovers (which are also PAFs, they just don't have the rights to the name "PAF" so they name em after the guy who invented them). I still want to do that one day, get a metal guitar and make it sound vintage, even better if I can get one with a humbucker and 2 single coils so as to get the strat tone that's still my favourite tone
But yeah I got there and tried everything. And surprisingly, the Epiphone SG Muse was by far the most playable guitar there. It just felt as smooth as butter. Everything comes easy on it. Maybe it's because I spent years and years not caring about gear anymore and just playing on my dad's old acoustic he got in the 60s with its big thicc ass neck. The Epiphone doesn't have a fat neck particularly, but it's certainly not anywhere near as thin as the ibanez and Jackson and schechter kind of guitars. It's like a modern thick neck. Which is probably the equivalent of what a "thin" neck was in the 50s and 60s. But either way, it just works. It works so well. I haven't ever owned a guitar as playable to me as this one.
It has the best fret access of _ANY_ guitar I've ever played. I was really really shocked by that. I always thought they'd be very clunky guitars because they come from 1961. But no. They have more fret access than any strat or super strat I've ever played, certainly much much more than any les Paul. It's astonishing. You get up to like the 16th/17th fret and it still feels like you're at the 1st fret, there's no added bulk or anything, it's just as easy to play up there as down in the lower frets. It's gonna change the way I play guitar completely. Normally I rarely play above the 12th fret that much because it was just always a chore with the guitars I had already. But now I'll be able to play much much higher. It sounds so fantastic playing up there. No wonder Les Paul himself liked this feature of the SG, even though he disliked the SG overall (or really he just hated the first ones because they had very weak necks that could be bent backwards too easily and he preferred more solid guitars, and by 1963 Gibson had already solved the weak neck problem, but he always praised how good the fret access was, it was like nothing else that had ever existed before in the world of guitars, when it came out in 1961)
And I chose it also because it's _WAAAAY_ more versatile than all the metal guitars there at this shop. Because it has coil splitting. I forgot that the Muse line had that feature until we got there. It means you get like, what, 8 or 9 different tones in one guitar? Lemme work it out. Cos you got the 2 humbuckers separate, and the 2 humbuckers together in the middle position. That's 3. Then you have both humbuckers coil split. So that's 3 more tones. And you have neck humbucker plus single coil bridge together, and vice versa bridge humbucker plus single coil neck together, so that's 2 more. So 8 in total so far.
But it's also got another pullable knob on it, a third one, that's on the bridge tone knob I think, I can't remember which one, it doesn't really matter. But it makes it so the pickups go out of phase or something. I dunno. It just makes it sound super super twangy like a tele or strat. With the 2 humbuckers both coil split into single coils it already sounds like a tele. But then when you add this phase shift feature too, it gets even more like that. It only seems to do anything when the pickups aren't coil split, when they're coil split it makes no difference. But yeah so it has 3 extra tones, bridge middle and neck, because of this out-of-phase thing it does. So that's 11 tones in total so far.
And it has a treble bleed circuit, or whatever it's called. So when you reduce the volume, the tone doesn't get muddy at all. It stays sharp. So that adds even more tones.
And of course like on every SG and LP, you can make even more tones by doing things like go in the middle possition but have one pickup at full volume and the other at say 2 or 3, so you can get say a tone that's mainly the bridge pickup but with a little bit of neck to make it sound warmer and fatter. Or you could have the middle position with one pick up at max tone level and the other at min tone level for even more unique sounds
But yeah even just playing it normally with no coil splitting or any other funny business, it's just a joy to play and it sounds gorgeous. I don't think I'll ever replace the pickups in it. They're already great.
I used to like the les Paul better but know I think I like the SG better, thanks Marty!!
I only have a cheap strat, so I will need a humbucker some time. This was a really cool test. SG is the clear winner it for me. Lighter, cheaper, higher notes more easily reachable. Thanks Marty!
SG because it's very good looking and sounds badass, also it's Iommi's fault
I might be getting a black sg for my 17th birthday, very stoked and excited
SG!!
Bet
Lol I actually stumbled on this lookin for footage of Jerry playing in his Gibson days
Totally. Signed, deadhead
just like jerry!
A few months ago, I went to the guitar store to buy a Les Paul studio and left with a PRS Custom 22. But, I really like that Les Paul.
I've always preferred the more vibrant tones of the SG. Its all Tony Iommi's fault and Angus Young hasn't helped matters any.
So yeah, SG.
The difference in tone has about 95% to do with the location of the pickups on the two guitars, not the amount of wood.
Marty's playing a Les Paul Standard, which is my favorite type of LP. I love the biting tone and aggressive look of the SG. It's a win win as far as choices go.
Well said Rob! 👍

I love my Epiphone Les Paul. I know its not a Gibson, but love the sound I can get for rock. Its easy to play, fun to blast away for metal. I dont own a SG, but want to someday just because of the sweet crispness of solos and blues.
Marty you are sick! Enjoyed listening and watching you play.
Kevin Hunt put dimarzios in my epi l.p. and it kicks butt, fraction of the price and the tone is killer.

As you may have already guessed it is a personal preference. For me, probably because of the era I grew up in I like the SG (love AC/DC) however It the Les Paul for me.
AC/DC 🤘🤘
I love SG. I have got epiphone g400. I love it but your SG is my dream! SG for life
Michał Śliwiński a cherry Red sg has been my dream guitar since I was a young boy, and last year that dream came true when I found a sg standard used for $750

I saved up for an SG and bought it 2 months ago
Haha once I went on a website for a pawn shop that I visit often, they had a Epiphone SG I've saved up a lot of money to get it, so I walk in the shop the other day and find out it's been sold haha so instead I bought a Les Paul Junior
Let's see here... Just bought my first electric 2 months ago. Guess what it was? A 2018 Gibson SG Standard in Autumn Shade. 😎👍 🎸🎶 Love. It.
oh my junior has a humbucker instead of a p90, I more of a humbucker person
51? Most people live to 85...
SG, my name is Lucifer please take my hand.
But, from personal experience (bought both yesterday off Craigslist) the Les Paul has very rich tone, but the neck is huge, it feels like I'm playing an acoustic with electric strings and it's such a heavy, beautiful block of wood. The SG is what the devil would chose. (He told me so).
Each guitar has it's own strengths over the other. If you're on a tight budget, an Epi SG is a great choice.
Robert Van Housen thinking about getting an epiphone sg have you had one?
SuitAndTy89 R if you're still thinking of it, go for it. You can't go wrong with any iteration of the G400. They end up being the cheapest "high end" Epiphone and Gibson, too, for that matter. All a matter of personal taste and most people's tastes tend to stray from SGs these days it would seem.
@@iwannaleavenow1456 I own a Les Paul Traditional, A Fender Strat, American Standard, and a Mod Shop Telecaster along with my SG-400 from Epiphone. The SG is one well built guitar. It is sturdy and solid. I can go out and hit batting practice with this mother and then go play music. The PUPs can get a bit muddy some times, but all in all, I play it in my rotation, the same amount as my other guitars. I love it. I'lllove it more when I get my Seymore Duncan Antiquity PUPs for it.
i got an epi sg cost me $700
I agree Robert, I have an Epiphone SG & it plays & sounds awesome.
Les Paul's whether Customs Standards what have you, are harder to play for me personally, SG all the way.
I like the sg. Im 5'7. Angus Young summed it up. He said the les paul felt too big and heavy. I agree. I do have a les paul junior. Les Pauls are great. for me it's about comfort.
Same here, I'm a small guy, so the light weight and the scale of the fretboard makes it a lot better for me.
And I like SGs too because the tone.
hardluck 1995 different strokes for different folks I guess... Paul Kossoff was only 5'3" and only played Les Pauls. For me it's all about tone
Dagger 323 I also play slide in standard tuning. SG is built for that
hardluck 1995 don't get me wrong. I love the SG. I've got an SG and a Les Paul both. You're right the SG is the perfect guitar for slide. I find myself playing my SG sometimes instead just because of its ergonomics. But I always end up going back to my Les Paul mainly because of its tone. It sustains longer and has a more rounded tone that works better for the blues-rock that I play. The SG may cut slightly more in a mix but just doesn't quite have the fullness of my Les Paul. Either way they're both incredible guitars, and I agree with what Marty said about the SG being a much better value for the money.
Les Paul its my Favorite but having a light guitar that is easy to play high on the neck sounds great too and the SG is Classic.
i can tell, ur pictures a les paul.
Very good video thanks so much. I was always a Les Paul girl but when u get into ur 50’s that SG feels a little bit better on the back after standing awhile playing.
Personally I like the Sg more, although I don’t own one they pretty much play the same as a les paul, personally I think they look cooler and feel better when holding them, also they have easy access to the higher frets.
I have both and love both, but I favor my SG because it is more comfortable to play due to the lighter/thinner body. I also replaced the stock pickups with some Gibson Tony Iommi pickups which I really like the sound of.
All hail the mighty sg. This song has created the most best songs. Stair way to heaven, iron man, and back in black.
Awesome comparison Marty! The truth is that ... you need to get both. Les Paul and SG is just a must have in your musical arsenal. The tough decision is just - which to get first but there are no wrong answers here
Never realized just how popular the sg is. Always thought the lp was way ahead
Lp is definitely more popular but SG is famous too
Lp is definitely more popular but SG is famous too
SG has the best middle position for me than any other guitar. But les paul has a better attack at the bridge one
Black SG is awesome!
Les Paul gets my vote. I've owned both, the LP is far superior, IMO
Far superior? How?
Honestly I'd take both just beautiful guitars!
You know, I was never a fan of the Fender Tele or the Gibson SG... just thought they were boring compared to the Strat and Les Paul. Recently, I added a Sunburst Tele and a Cherry Red SG Standard to my collection and I must admit... I was judging a book by it's cover as I thoroughly enjoy both of them. They each have their own distinctive tones that inspire you. I found this video late however, I now agree... you can't have one without the other!
Since I own an LP and an SG, I prefer both for different applications. Love them both.
Marty, I've been playing guitar since 12 years ago, when i was 8 years old... this channel was my favorite to watch tutorials on. Your tutorials and playing is always on point... but most importantly, you haven't changed a bit even though your channel has been growing so much over these past ten years!!! Probs to you💯🤙🏽
this is like asking me to choose between two of my children
It's pretty easy really. I only play Gibson, Fender, Gretsch, Rickenbacker, Martin, Guild and Taylor guitars. There are some others I left out...
I’m an sg man, I love the devil horn look and thinner body
SG is the ultimate classic rock guitar. It’s the Black Sabbath master and the ACDC King... lol that’s what the guitarists for those bands used! Tesla guitarist (don’t remember name) also played a SG. Such a good classic rocker and pretty good for metal too!
Marty I thought the SG is Alder wood. And the LP is Mahogany.
The maple top is cosmetic with probably very minor acoustic properties.
The SG has a plastic cover that performs an acoustic duty when the pick ups are elevated towards the strings. That is, they actually ride on the plastic cover entirely. I just disassembled my SG and when I put it together I figured that out.
For all these reasons the SG is more brash or rather carry a diminishing fundamental note, while the LP being all solid and the pickups mounted directly to the body tends to have less total vibration of the coil under each string.
I can hear all this in your video.
I love both your guitars and your playing.
Someone else here suggested playing the same music on both for a better comparison.
Thank you for all your videos. Awesome!
Great playing- to me the Les Paul had great tones & I love the position of the pick up toggle switch
Marty both are great guitars but i prefer the sg personally. keep up with the videos. ive been watching your stuff for about 5 years. great stuff has taught me alot.
Thanks Victor
I prefer the les paul
gotta have both!
Always liked the SG better. The necks are more playable and there's something about the way the neck pickup distance to the neck joint really gives this guitar a different sound. A lot lighter, too.
with the right amp and effects you can make a guitar sound like anything in my opinion, so i’m saying SG just for the looks
I like Les Paul but i like SG more (i’m an AC/DC fan)
I like acdc tooooo much!!!
sg all the way for me case the god fathers of metal black sabbath and angus young that use no fx all the years just all tube amp
Basically Guns N’ Roses vs AC/DC
Blud 2soon And you have Nirvana logo as your channel pic
Shiny Hardc0re ik 👌
Blud 2soon obviously there lead guitarist isn’t a hard drinker and has more talent has more purpose so sg would win
Gideonnicochase Ps4friends lmao no, slash is more influential, has better compositions and has a more complex play style, dont get me wrong i love angus young but slash is the better guitarist
Both are good
An sg just looks more badass
nice!
My two favorite guitars! Fender guitars can't beat these. I prefer glued in necks. I have one of each. Epiphone brand though. Still excellent guitars.
I’m the opposite actually, I only have found two Gibson’s I’ve ever actually liked playing, but many fenders
I loved my American strat and played it for years but once I got my hands on an American SG I couldn’t go back
Les Paul has always been my favotite guitar beside the tele.
Les Paul for me is great
But for slide it's the sg all day long
Just ask Derek trucks
Judging by the things you play it seems like you are more into blues rock am i right?
By the way what's your opinion on PRS guitars? They seem to be a lot cheaper than Gibson of Fender guitars, but a lot of my favorite artists use them...
I guess cheaper all depends on which PRS line you're looking at. Their Core line (handmade in Maryland) are about the same price, if not more than a Standard Gibson at $1600-$2000. The PRS Standard series (formerly S2 I think) is right up around American Fender pricing at $1000-$1300 or so, while the cheapest SE (import) line is a bit more than a Mexican Fender, around $500-700. I've never owned any form of PRS guitar, but I've been told that they're fantastic. The scale length sits in-between a Fender and Gibson, so it's a bit of an adjustment if you're used to playing one or the other. SE's are probably the best import line you can buy for the money.
Nate Popodi I really don't know much about guitars, I've been playing for just about a year now on my brothers guitar, which costed around €900 and is from an unknown brand (which is good, because that way you're paying for the quality, not the brand, like you would with a very cheap strat by Fender... I think lol). Right now I'm looking at for a guitar of my own and my eye just fell on PRS, but again I've got no clue which ones are any good... I looked at the Tremonti SE custom model, but I have no idea if it's a good one or just cheap imported crap haha
Lennert Everling Thankfully, import doesn't usually mean crap anymore. Most Korean/Indonesian/ Chinese guitars are fantastic, especially for how much they cost. An SE Tremonti would be a fantastic choice.
Nate Popodi Well, in the end I'm gonna have to try some out to see which one fits me best, thanks for the advice dude!
I have a PRS SE Custom 24 (so made in Korea). It's an amazing guitar. However, I have a soft spot for Les Pauls and I prefer my Gibson Les Paul 60s Tribute to it for a few different reasons.
Anyway, you won't go wrong with a PRS SE.
Just got an epiphone sg pro for $160 at a pawn shop. It was that price because of an eyesore of damage to the front face. Slapped a sticker over it and we are good. Plays well. My first sg. Can now do Sabbath and ac/dc😃
Was a Paul player 40+ years. Got my first SG 3 years ago, and never looked back. Improved my playing by a good 20%. The neck was so fast I was overshooting target frets till I adapted. Now the speed comes in really handy with certain styles our band is covering. The 59 Slim Taper neck also fits my hand better, so that weighs into the improved feel. Jump up to either a Supreme (mine is an '01 SG Supreme with P-90s) or an HP model, and you get all 24 frets (which comes in handy copying the shredders), the tonal palate of the P-90s, and a maple cap (pretty well matching the Paul all around) as well. No contest. A lot more guitar, for less green stamps -- SG Supreme. Yup.
gibson fucking SG !!!!!
(give like for Tonny Iumi and Angus Young please!)
Gary Clark Jr rocks them too.
Adam Zeller love Tony iumi from bliuk sabbuth
I would give a thumbs up if it was for Tony Iommi and Angus Young but I've never heard of Tony Iumi.
the SG is the most versatile guitar. it plays almost every genre like the guitar was made for it. the les paul is legendary but doesn’t have the same versatility an SG has
Is this a joke? With the same pickups, they sound identical
Tishian are you joking? Same pickups doesn’t mean the same sound. Oh and they don’t have the exact same pickups. Wood matters, tuners matter, shape matters, and the hardware and gear are different and matter very much!
love this but I play left handed so I don't really know what one would be best but I'm getting a cool acoustic anyway
Etaan - sg if you don't want to find a left handed guitar, it's symmetrical and the les Paul isn't. So you could string the sg backwards and deal with the knobs being in a weird spot lol
I have a lefty sg. They make them. Awesome guitar.
Etaan: I am left handed and play left handed guitars, low E on top. I have a Les Paul Traditional, 1959 setup, an SG-400, a Custom Shop Telecaster w/Texas Specials PUPs, and an American Standard Stratocaster, 1970's setup. You can get left handed guitars in most major brands. I also have nylon string and steel string acoustic guitars.
I bought a Cherry burst Les Paul traditional . I don’t play yet ,but it was a new 2018 left over . I couldn’t turn down the price of $1699 . Linked it with a Baby Beatle VOX amp. Sounds great
Dude you are hands down the best guitar teacher and channel on the internet period. You cover everything.
Here I am thinking jeez which really nice guitar do I wanna buy and bam! Turns out you review guitars too lol.
I'm a huge Krieger fan right down to finger picking an electric guitar so I'm probably gonna go sg.
But I love the look of a hollow body electric.🤔
Black dog oh Yeah!
I always called the SG the Cherry red.
Love the new project Marty keep it up!
Thanks so much Brison!
he literally played iconic riffs on the guitars that suits it
I have both and play them both equally. I love the Les Paul, but I also love the SG...Ugh, see? This is why I have both. Gibson Les Paul Standard 60's and Gibson SG Standard.
The LP is like the kid that always has its hand raised and knows the answer but the SG just stays in the back of the classroom and never says anything but always knows the answer for the questions in the next exam one month earlier
Are you an author of a book or a philosopher? I kinda like your choice of vocab and phrasing...if you were writing a phrase for marks I'd give you ten out of ten 🤣🤣
SG clean tones have always been superior to Les Paul, which just sounds boring without distortion. But SG rocks harder too.
Also SG is far more ergonomic. Only some have a bit of neck-dive.
Les Paul is basically overpriced "show-pony".
I own both!
I’ve got an SG and I like it. Both cost and, especially weight, entered into the decision.
I am a les paul guy. But f the SG has the maestro vibrola. I'll take the SG. I like classic style guitars with whammy bar over being heavy. I don't like heavy guitars and in my opinion les paul and sg looks better with whammy bars.
That LP is beautiful! The grain is amazing. You gotta have both. They're both classics and there's enough difference to justify it.
Thank you for saying that. I was going to ask that question. Yes, I'm keeping both!
I like the sg cause Angus uses it
Angus used to use a gretsch Version of a Les paul at first so technically he used both
Karin Bernard Aren’t you confusing Angus with his brother Malcolm? Because I have seen in many live shows and video clips Angus using an SG and Malcolm using a Gretsch. Also, Angus is one of the most famous SG players to be alive.
Karin Bernard not true he has always played and sg, the Gibson sg was his first proper guitar and he has used one ever since
Im eyeing a used Epiphone SG in my local music store. It costs 250 and the owner said it’s in good condition. What dyall think should I just buy a new one?
BTW this is my second guitar. My first one was a Special 2
Yea
Bro. Just bought an sg for the same price. Def worth it. Super worth it with the pull pots
I loved the intro............it summed up their notoriety in ten seconds.
I just bought the new 2018 Gibson SG Standard and I love it! Comes with locking tuners and 61 reissue PAF pick ups. It’s a great guitar!
Two of each!
Ths SG sounds and looks badass.
I like your way. The way of BADASS rock!🤘🎸🤘🎸🤘🎸🤘
I’ve always thought of a deep cherry red SG with those devil 👿 horn cutaways as Satan’s guitar. It just looks more sinister and metal overall.
Because that is the guitar that created metal
LP wins in this video (and many others.) But for some reason, I like the SG when I play
Even though my favourite guitarists are all Les Paul guys, it's SG for me all the way I'm afraid.
However, if I want single coils, I lean towards strat. Have a Tele, but I'm swapping her out for a strat. I find them much more comfortable and way more versatile
