HEBO LIFT 10 arrives at Tilbury Landing Stage on 3rd June 2024. HEBO LIFT 10 had sailed over from Den Helder, Netherlands and was accompanied by VOE EARL. It was at Tilbury to undertake lifting operations at the entrance to Tilbury Dock on 4th June.
Nice one ThamesShips, right place right time. Back in1990-93 I was employed on the Storebaelt rail tunnels being build from near Korsor to the island of Sprogel there after on a viaduct to Nyborg. Four TBMs were used to dig the two rail running tunnels in glacial till with boulders the size of London DD buses. Along the tunnel project there was a suspension bridge and a viaduct for road traffic. The Swan heavy lift barge was used for placing precast foundation units, bridge columns and road desks. I would often stand and watch these crane movements and was amazed at how they held position in such fast flowing waters. I believe this was the Swans first contract on being built. You've jogged another of my vast inventory of memories and I thank you for that.
Thanks as always for your kind comments and for sharing your memories. They are incredible. The PLA website publish expected departure and arrival times so that helps in knowing when anything interesting may be coming. I believe that they were doing work on the lock gates at the entrance to Tilbury Dock. In any case, the crane and it's supporting tug have both started their journey back across the North Sea to the Netherlands. There was another (much larger!) crane delivered to London Gateway this morning. They are constructing a fourth berth there and need the accompanying cranes to load / unload the ships when it comes into operation.
