Most of these list, review comic book related channels suck. They always give the obvious and never seem to really know much. This channel here is the real deal. In depth knowledge of the material and really goes deep. Much appreciated. Much respect. Underrated channel.
I love when Riddler teams with Batman. In fact, I’d be absolutely ecstatic if they permanently reformed Riddler and put him on the side of the law. A Riddler series would be awesome.
Ikr? I love when Riddler and Batman working together. Especially when Riddler is still a villian, i love it when it was about hero and villian working together (i just enjoy it if it was Batman and Riddler tho)
1:05 - N°5 - Paul Dini Detective comics run 2:35 - N°4 - Dark knight, dark city 4:15 - N°3 - A new dawn 6:25 - N°2 - The riddleless robberies of the riddler 8:25 - N°1 - Question multiply the mystery
One of my favorite Riddler appearances (And one his more underrated ones) is from an issue of The Batman Adventures (The tie-in comics for BTAS). In the story, Riddler enters a depression due to the fact that Batman is always able to solve his riddles, and he starts to face the fact that maybe Batman is smarter than him. As such, his goons bust the Riddler out of jail and help him create a scheme with a super riddle that even Batman can’t solve. And it actually works... kind of. Though Batman manages to find and defeat the Riddler, he does it by complete accident and was never able to actually solve the riddle. Upon hearing this, the Riddler is rejoiced to hear his self imposed beliefs about his “Superior intellect” are revived.
Riddler to me is a lot like the Penguin, in that he can work really well in the hands of a strong writer but plenty of writers don't know what to do with the character. Sometimes he's written as a second rate Joker, and sometimes his motivations are really unclear. Even in a lot of his really popular stories, like Zero Year and Dark Knight, Dark City, I could never get a good sense as to WHY the Riddler is doing what he is doing. Even though it's not a particularly well written story, and the artwork can be a bit garish, I really like the way the Riddler is depicted in Run, Riddler Run. He's a man playing games with everybody around him. And if they ever decide to bring the Riddler into a movie, I think Jake Gyllenhaal should play him, based on his performances in Zodiac and Nightcrawler.
Yes, some writers just write him like an idiot. There are some missed opportunities to make a great Riddler story, like "Riddled in the dark" and even "Batman: Earth one Vol.2", they could have been awesome, but then they just failed, in one way or another.
420Slaterson I know this is like 10 months late but if you watch Gotham, Cory Michael Smith does a fantastic job of playing the riddler and I think it would be nice for him to be in a movie about riddler because he really plays the character well in my opinion
Have any of you seen Gotham? The tv show? If you have, do you like it and what do you think of how Edward Nygma is portrayed in it? For me, I LOVE how he is portrayed.
Dave8814 penguin is awesome in the show. Yes the romance with ed was bad but it is not his defining feature. The rest of the season was still good and penguin beats ed in the end. So what if penguin is gay? He is still fun to watch, regardless of his sexual orientation.
It would be great to see batman a new dawn riddler story where batman and riddler team up against king tut made into a movie. I really liked paul dinis detective comics run as well where the riddler would help out the police and batman at times.
Me too. I really enjoyed paul dinis detective comics run and a new dawn alot. It seems like paul dini is one of the few writers that knows how to write the penguin and the riddler among others. He also did a great job with them in batman the animated series. The riddler moments in the animated series are definitely on my top 5. Too bad he rarely gets used in animated movies/series of batman. They should turn a new dawn into a movie. We need more riddler movies
Riddler is one of Batman's greatest villains of all time. Riddler is one villain who could outsmart Batman with his puzzles and riddles. He has also been one of the most iconic villains in history, like Joker, Scarecrow, and Penguin, since his first appearance in 1948 in the golden age of comics. I really like his obsession with riddles that he has that are impossible to solve, but Batman and Robin are one step ahead of Riddler, that they would play him as a fool. I also like his portrayals on media, such as the 60s Batman, Batman TAS, Batman Forever, Gotham, and The Batman. I really like Riddler. He stands as one of the most iconic Batman rogues in comic history. He really deserves a lot more to the world. Thank you for reviewing the 5 best Riddler Stories. Have a good night
YES! It is so awesome that you mentioned "Dark knight Dark City". That story really sticks out to me from my earlier days reading comics. In my mind it is the best Riddler story. It was very unusual.
Who else is here after watching the remake of this video Mr. Rogues made? Ah, the nostalgia this video gives me. This is where the best RUclipsr to walk among us began his illustrious career.
Giddy TV yeah and they're also all so tall I mean the average height for an American woman is like 5'04 or 5'02 and for men 5'09 so why are they all 6'02
My favorite Riddler story comes from the comic tie-in to the New Batman animated series; "The Oldest One in the Book." For anyone who hasn't read it, it involves Eddie breaking out of prison and still trying to satisfy his compulsion to challenge Batman, but to avoid getting caught, he sends the Dark Knight clues that will lead him to OTHER criminals. A pretty good look at Riddler's mania with a dramatic, emotional breakdown at the end.
I had a copy of #1 at one point. I remember Echo and Query, the two henchwomen the Riddler meets. They're no Harley or Mercy, but interesting all the same, and it's a shame they did not last long.
While not exactly a 'Riddler' story, there is a story in the back of 'What ever happened to the Dark Knight?' that I like because of a bit involving the Riddler. A news crew is interviewing people about how Batman affects Gotham, and head to a 'death trap junk yard' (which in itself is an amazing concept). There they meet Frank Gorshin's Riddler, who gives this really sweet little soliloquy to the silver age and 60's batman.
I think you're talking about "When is a Door" by Neil Gaiman. It appears in the Secret Origins Villain Special along with stories about Penguin and Two-Face.
I would also recommend the 3 part "Run Riddler Run", Shane McCarthy's engaging five part "Riddle Me That" (Legends of the Dark Knight 185 - 89) and Neil Gaiman's brilliant take on the character in "When is a Door" from the Secret Origins Villain Special. And for The Riddler's best death trap ever check out "The Primal Riddle" (Legends of the Dark Knight 109-11). I would also like to suggest "Hush," Batman 23.2 (with amazing 3D cover), "The Riddle Factory," Scott Snyder's year long arc "Zero Year" in which the Riddler has complete control over all of Gotham City for a year, and Tom King's "The War of Jokes and Riddles".
Question for everyone: Which is your favorite Riddler design: The original suit with question marks, the modern design or another one (Arkham: Asylum, City, Knight, etc.)? Heya there ! Your vid was very interesting. I'd like to know something, though. Where have you found the "picture" at 0:32, please ? I know where all the others are from, but I didn't know this one, that's why ^^. Keep doing the good job !
Thanks! It's from 'the Batman Chronicles' #3. It's actually a good story where Riddler abandons his gimmick and commits crime without leaving riddles, just like in 'Riddle-less robberies of Riddler'.
My top 5 Riddler stories are: 1.Batman Hush 2. Batman Zero Year. 3. Batman: King Tut's Tomb. 4.E. Nigma, Consulting Detective 5. Remarkable Ruse OF The Riddler
Has there ever been a Riddler story wherein the character is portrayed as the manic, mood-swingy version as portrayed by Frank Gorshin on the 1966 TV show?
I bought them at Mycomicshop.com. Any online comic book store that sells old back issues should have them. Of course the 60s story would be far too expensive to buy, so I recomend getting a reprint instead - namely a trade paperback called "Batman Arkham: The Riddler", published in 2015, I believe. That trade also includes a couple of the Paul Dini detective Riddler issues.
i don't mean to keep pushing this idea (actually i do), but andy daly (review, eastbound and down, semi-pro) should at least be cast as the voice of the riddler in something. he sounds like the riddler. it's terrifying
Your number one would be my number two. In my humble opinion "Riddler and the Riddle Factory" from 1995 is the best Riddler Story ever told. It is also a loose sequel to the "Secret Origins Special" by Neil Gaiman.
This video has been remade and expanded here: ruclips.net/video/2F66A8Se7jg/видео.html
It's ironic that Riddler barely appeared in Batman: The Animated Series, but was featured a lot in Paul Dini's Detective Comics run.
Dini must've been trying to make up for it.
@@dantheman1984 yeah.

Riddler is my all time favrite batman vilian.
Me too!
MBR 9000 me too
Severus Snape ikr
Severus Snape no offence but the killing joke is an overrated, outdated mediocrity so you're not really selling it to me
Severus Snape that's awesome I always preferred the actual genius/child prodigy riddler instead of the foolish villain

He's the best villain in the Adam West TV show. When Frank Gorshin played him he was a gangster who just happened to like riddles!!
I love the riddler
Harrison Miller: my all time favorite
Harrison Miller he's the best

i don't know why does every character in comic books have muscles like bodybuilders even Victor Zsaz has muscles and he's supoused to be weak
Giddy TV yeah and they're also all so tall I mean the average height for an American woman is like 5'04 or 5'02 and for men 5'09 so why are they all 6'02
Giddy TV (I know I'm late to the party)it makes sense zsasz is jacked he spends all his time at Arkham what else is he gonna do
Make sense when they can overpower and kill people with ease of course take a beating and at least able to hold off against Batman
Penguin doesn't lol
I really love when the riddler is just a skinny tall guy
I used to wear a question mark shirt growing up..love the Riddler!
Can you please review the war of jokes and riddles? Please!

I think my favorite Riddler design is Kieron Dwyer's from Dark Knight Dark City.
That Way design was really cool btw!
Mr. E. Nygma the modern version as it makes him look smarter which makes sense for his character
How many issues of Detective did Dini write? Which issues?
What about the Hush story?
Thank you so much for this
You're welcome!

So glad Hush isn't here. That story got Riddler all wrong.
Wow it's been 4 years
I would have though Hush would be here, a Riddler was the puppet master of it
I know a lot of people love it, but I've personally never cared for Jeph Loeb's writing. I don't even like the Long Haloween all that much.
Gotham Rogues understandable
Am I the only one who likes the riddler?
what about that run in the Flash???
Will you do a Hugo Strange top 5?
Yes indeed!

No idea who that is. Looked him up. Well he certainly has the right look for Edward Nigma.
The show Gotham has a good riddler
I love riddler he is my favorite after joker
man this was the first video
Or riddler could just give riddles that either lie or aren’t related to the crime.
👍
I just realised how sad your voice sounds in this video why is that
Haha no I wasn't sad, I just sucked at narrating back then.
