In this video, I'll teach you how to play the English Tattoo, both the Singlings of the Tattoo and Doublings of the Tattoo, a camp duty call played by both the American drummers and British drummers during the American Revolution.
The Tattoo signaled the end of the night. Soldiers were required to report for a final roll call and then be in their tents or barracks. Guards became more vigilant at Retreat, around 5pm, but were especially cautious from Tattoo until Reveille the next morning.
The Singlings of the Tattoo also signaled Secure Arms.
The Doublings of the Tattoo also signaled Shoulder Arms.
