Hi both, No sarcastic jokes from me this week. Loe bar is a very dangerous stretch of water which has claimed many lives since the tragedy of HMS Anson, the last I believe was in 2014 when a local teacher died. there was also a surfer that died just off Porthleven a couple of years ago during a storm. A very beautiful part of Cornwall and a lovely walk, Thank you for sharing it with us. Perfectly safe as long as you show the respect that nature and the ocean deserves. 👍❤👍

HI Sarah and Andrew, what a lovely day and a beautifully but moving video, especially the moments of filming at the memorial on the hill, interspersed with readings of the story of the "Anson" and then onto the little scattered flowers. Also the museum which showed Henry Trengrouse's invention. His name will be recognised all over the world now thanks to your video. What sadness he died penniless. I remember when my uncle who lived in Penzance did his family tree, he found a "William Strike." I wonder if there was a connection?) Thank you both for a lovely video today. ❤️
We visited when they were doing that work. I’ve learnt more about the Bar in this video than in my 17 years of summers in Garras. My husband thought we could circle walk back to the NT cafe round the lake. I was very unhappy as my feet were killing me. The house amazes me every time. The path to Porthleven was closed the one year 2018 I think. We did walk to the Bar from Porthleven one year but I haven’t a clue which but was post 2015 as we were staying either three or four weeks. Thanks for another great video😍😍😀

A beautiful coastal walk on a beautiful day, what a poignant beach is Loe Bar with your account of the shipwreck “Anson” in 1807. the saving of the man and child was so heroic, Trengrouse was a genius to invent the Rocket System that would have saved many lives eventually, I had shivers when you both explained the burying of the ships crew and passengers probably, and the erecting of the monument, it’s amazing how the sea retreats on hitting the sand bar, keeping it from joining the fresh water lake, to Clouseau’s delight as he was obviously thirsty bless him! and he was most helpful excavating the beach in search of sea glass, another very informative video, and how ironic to finish with a Canon or, Canons from the “Anson” guarding the harbour! Is Andrew still out there trying to prove he can drain the Lake into the sea with a stick! 😅thanks again Guy’s for entertaining us with these lovely walking tours 👍🤗👋
Very enjoyable. You put it together very well starting with the memorial. I like the history link of the HMS Anson, Porthleven, the museum in Helston with the lifesaving inventions and models. This is a great day out for many people.
Have done this walk many many moons ago. Our daughter, I remember, managed to slip over into Loe Pool and we had to go all the way back to our holiday site as she was covered in mud (in a bright pair of pink jeans at the time!). Very interesting vid & such a lovely day down there. Cheers me up as I am currently laid up with the dreaded Covid (as are the rest of the family) which finally caught up with us this week. So catching up on some of your walks to pass the time away. A lovely day out, for you and Mr. Scrumptious who I see did some of his usual digging techniques and was rewarded with a doggy ice cream!! x J x

A really fascinating video Sarah and Andrew, Loe Bar one of my favourite places, I love the walk round Loe Pool, especially during Blackberry season. Fascinating to learn about Henry Trengrouse &his rocket. Sad about all the lives lost there, but I can't help thinking what a beautiful place to be buried. Thank you for another great adventure. So many interesting aspects, and I love it when you include writings from the past to inform your own observations. I didn't understand the shape and extent of the lake until you showed the map at the end. I'm curious what you think is the source of the sea glass, and why it appears on certain beaches and not others. Perhaps it travels to your shores from Spain or France? California outlawed glass bottles on our beaches several decades ago, so we don't see it as we did when I was a child. Digging Doggie is a champ! :)
Hi again Andrew and Sarah , I have been meaning to leave this comment for sometime ! We watched your vlog on your walk around Penzance , a place we used to also love to visit , and saw the familiar palm trees dotted around the place , they are originally from New Zealand , called Cabbage Trees and they were brought back to the UK by a Botanist named Thomas Banks , he was the Botanist on Captain James Cooks voyages back in the 1700's when they discovered what is now New Zealand . The local Maori tribes used the Cabbage Trees as a way of guiding themselves around the country , using them as markers to show the way , I don't know if you were aware of these trees nd the fact they are originally from New Zealand ?
Lovely but deadly, this Loe Bar. I'm fascinated by your homeland and its history. I never enjoyed history in school, it being taught in such a boring, monotone fashion. But once grown, I found myself seeking out people, places and past events to investigate and educate myself about. It's a shame that the man responsible for prototype life preservers & jacket-type flotation devices did not receive notice/reward for his cleverness and effort in his lifetime, when it would have been of use to him.
How tragic that Trengrouse died penniless and was accused of seeking fame. I had never heard this story until your video. Must visit Helston museum one day.

Do love your dog . Sad to say my dog never did Cornwall . Only did Devon in the 12 years of her life , and she love every time we did go out in Devon.

That beach/ bar, is very hard work for old legs! Done the circular walk from Helston quite a few times. Hope to be down in a few weeks.

There is a "no swimming' sign for this beach. I visit often & have only ever seen 1 swimmer in many years. Beautiful beach though & usually ver quiet.

Did do that walk when i got my first motor cycle . As i did a lot more on that bike than with a car. In my bike days.
Would love to walk with you guys one time, I take my dog from Porthlevan to loe bar at least twice a day :)

Surly the Loe did not exist in Arthur's time? The bar cut off the mouth of Cober around the 12th century, about 700 years later.
The National Trust should be closed down and the properties returned to their original owners.
