Hi Aimee. Your bird house is going to be a bird bath if you don't have any drainage holes in the bottom or some gaps in the sides to let the rain water out.

Please don't feed the birds in spring and summer. They will give it to their babies and they can die from it. Baby birds need insects. Rather make nesting boxes and plant plants that attract insects.

Yesss! I said this on the last video, I don't think they're big cat people and can't commit much to pets, but adopt some barn cats! They won't need much care and if you go away you could just leave out food - and they'll keep themselves fed on mice! The presence and smell of cats will also discourage mice from returning.

Basketball court! 😊 Mice advice: we live remotely and mice try to come in every winter. Even with 4 cats, we have to be super careful. Every single food item needs to be in hard plastic or glass containers. Can't leave rice in a bag or cereal in a box. Buy some cute storage containers and save glass jars. Make sure that bird food is also kept in hard plastic boxes!! I'd recommend taking any food off the bird table at nightfall, otherwise you're just creating a mouse hotel 😂 to release mice, you need to drive at least 4 miles away as they can find their way home up to 4 miles away!! Make sure kitchen in the bus/house is clean and swept with NO CRUMBS before you go to bed!! Regularly tip crumbs from toaster into the bin. Have a well sealed bin! Cleaning really helps with mice. It's worth the effort, especially in winter as mice are very determined.

You could mouse proof your bus by looking for and sealing holes, covering sink drain, storing all food in mouseproof containers, staying on top of crumbs, disinfecting the area everytime you find a turd (they leave their smells behind to attract family & friends) plant peppermint and oregano in window boxes and keep the boxes around/under the bus and open door. Grow lots of peppermint elsewhere too. Mice find their way home unless taken 5 km away. You have thousands of mice in the fields around your house; you'll never catch them all....therefore deterring them is best. Bird food will attract rats and squirrels; you don't want either moving into your spaces. Owl decoys can be effective especially if you move them around. Rodents are very smart.

Mice even chew through heavy hard plastic! Metal & glass containers are the way to go. Please put all the “extra” bird food in a metal or glass containers because it will be a huge draw & a source of “food” for all the other critters. ☹️
Peppermint works, fairly well, but you have to keep repeating the treatments for any long term deterrent. Could try playing loud cats purring, dogs barking, owls hooting, wolves howling, High-pitched noises, etc. Use on constant repeat to help drive the mice away. Found my “sounds” on RUclips!
Living in the country is always a challenge to keep any mice outside. 🦉 🐈 🐶 🐺

Close all the doors windows, vents, etc on Custard. Then set one roof fan to exhaust (can your AC be set as an exhaust fan?). Leave that fan on 24/7. This will make sure that every tiny mouse sized hole is now an air _inlet_ (important). Now there are _no_ yummy smells going _out_ of Custard through all those small mouse sized holes. Mice will no longer be attracted. It may take a couple more days (weeks) of trapping and relocating (minimum of a mile) until all the ones that have learned about the Custard smorgasbord are relocated. Give it a shot. Works for me for years now.

There are wick packets available that take moisture out of the air. You'd need a few sets so you can switch them out to dry, and put a dry set into the container, every few weeks, depending on the humidity level.

I cannot believe this video went so fast. Loved every minute only wish it were longer. You entertain me every time. I know most of the work is the actual filming and editing but you make it so seamless as if we were there watching you daily. True comedic actors and professional directing and editing has never been matched on RUclips. Why on earth do you only have 350 thousand subscribers. I know y’all are climbing fast and will be skyrocketing in the near future. Y’all are the best by far. Ami( Trevor) i am a pretty serious diyer and my first bird house never looked that good. Kudos job well done. Please get a metal trash can with a tight lid to keep your bird seed in or the mice will pee all over it as they get in to it. Nasty little buggers. Pee and poop all over every place they go.

For your mouse problem: highly suggest getting two cats. Bonus: if you get them from a shelter, you won't have to wait for them to grow up to start catching mice. (Note: suggested two so they can keep each other company when you're not around.)

When we lived in an area with Kangaroo Mice, we packed things in the heavy black garden trash bags. They didn't seem to like those and we didn't have any problems. Worth a try. Also, all that bird food will attract the mice so be sure to put the feeders far from your home(s). Love watching you learn and take on all these projects.

Thank you for your amazing energy and positivity. You both bring much light. Use your old windows as you replace, to make a small glass green house in one corner of this magical new space to grow some vegetables. Using the retaining wall as the back. Xx

BTW, once the house is done, if you're still having mice getting in do a walk around the house and look for how they're getting in. Sometimes there will be scratches or stains/marks made on paths they've used a lot. One easy solution is to use crumpled up aluminum foil to fill the openings, which can be as small as a US dime.

Love the all rock retaining wall, and rock steps idea. Good job adding the french drains or the seepage could undermine the rock wall. If I had that space I could imagine a small portion as a proper car port while the landing above could be home to a massive fire pit, chairs, bbq, and whatnots for people to hang. You could use even more of the stones for the fire pit! Stone themes to be the theme lol.
