Did a lot of this back in the day, but never one this bad. Between the two of you there isn't much that you can't get running. It looks like this one's going to Glamis to be used as an area light, but I wouldn't be surprised if it actually gets brought back to life. When all you are using of it is the case, cam, crank, and rods anything is possible. Would be easier and cheaper to get a new used, but where is the fun in that.

Never heard if he ever got it running.
It was a good case too.
If you have someone with a boring bar and he bores it right it will make a world of difference in how it runs.

Han's and elderly German mechanic who showed me how to work on those 50 or so years ago would have had some choice words to say about the boy who dropped a valve and then trashed the engine like that. I stopped asking him what it meant since all he would say was "Keine Mama würde das nicht like!" He'd mix German and just enough English to make it work but would leave you totally in the dark when he cut loose using language that Mama didn't approve of.
If Merlin really wanted too he could have gotten that running. It's not like it was sitting at the bottom of a lake for 30 years.
    Best!

Double the power and parts are still easy to get for maintenance. On the positive side: you've got lots of junk aluminum to recycle and recoup some of the money spent on the rail restoration. lol
