Here’s another troubled build featured in the Short about problems with vintage models. Not only was it filthy, but it has multiple missing/broken parts not to mention some wear on the decals. So why even bother with it? It actually has a crew! If you’ve been watching this channel for a while, you know there are two things Dad never included - the motors and the people. And that’s what makes this one special. :-)

So a little wear and tear. Almost 60 years old and still mostly intact. It is the memories it brings back that count. Probably 99% of the built models in this condition were assigned to the scrap bin. I wish I had kept some of my early models.

Yep, same sentiment…you know what they say about hindsight…. Although I did hang on to most of the instruction sheets.

Even though the model has problems, it's been fun reminiscing with Dad. I'm glad he kept his! :-)

I remember building this kit from the MPC Profile Series using the “Sundowner” decals.

Thanks for your encouragement! I figured other modelers understand and still appreciate builds in less than perfect condition.

Also for those times it was very primitive, then they tried to sell it with new decals and versions. But it was only thanks to Fujimi 's Phantom family that we could have good models of this great fighter, also Monogram did a C/D and J version, under the label "Tour of Duty" in the late '80s, good kits, also if sometimes there were some mold errors.

Good to know! Dad built a number of Phantoms and I''m pretty sure a Fujimi is in the collection and will one day be on this channel. Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)

I had the 1971 issue of this kit. It was better than the Revell offering, but not as good as the Hasegawa F-4E, which held the Top Dog position until the next generation of Phantom kits came along. Interestingly, when you said, ". . . this one has problems," I thought you were referring to profile or detail issues, (such as the missing side windows between the canopies.) Considering this build is over half a century old, it's not in too bad shape!

Sorry for any confusion. :-) I love when Dad's builds are still in nearly perfect condition, but the broken ones are also interesting just because of the associated family history and memories. We always appreciate your comments!
