Such a cool store! So surprised they aren't playing bluegrass music in the background. Tourists would LOVE it. And they need to sell rock candy in Rocky Top!
Hello John: Thank you for bringing us this important video on a terrific general store in the Tennessee town of Rocky Top. These wonderful people are exactly like those that built this great Country. John in all of your video's you have always brought out the warm & caring hearts of all those you have interviewed as well as videoed. Thank you again sir, God Bless, & be safe. Your loyal subscriber TMP from NJ.
Great looking store and it looks like the locals really love having it. My father was a head-carknocker in the coal mine for a while, so it's always good to be reminded of that.
Very smart ownership and management of this wonderful business. Smart to take care of the local entrepreneurs in cash and help them to succeed (instead of consignment). Very creative marketing using facebook and surely word of mouth is helping them. Love the video. Another Tennessee treasure.
My paternal family's roots are in east Tennessee. So I always knew what a "poke" was. LOL Don't forget that soda pop was called "dope". My favorite part of the country lies in this area. ❤❤❤
I would like to Thank everyone at the Coal Miners General Store in Rocky Top Tennessee for everything you all do. Your hard work and dedication is outstanding 💪👍. Thank God for old general stores and the people that wants it to be around forever. Thank you John Ward for filming these wonderful places. May the good Lord always bless you all and keep you all safe and healthy where ever you go
From this interview, you can tell Jason’s and Natalie’s enthusiasm about this town of Rocky Top, Tennessee. His stake in the downtown district with The Coal CreekGeneral Store is serving as what seems to be a cornerstone for this community. In Tennessee, it’s hard to find a sandwich better than a good ol’ fried bologna sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and sliced sweet onion. Some folks it with mayo, others mustard, a few like both. Seems like the Cial Creek General Store is a thriving part of Anderson County and Rocky Top, Tennessee. Thanks to John for searching out and finding these little treasures all across our state.
I am making a point to come by your store very soon. So proud of you guys for taking good care of a historic building in Rocky Top. God bless you guys.
Rocky top? Nah lake City has been for years. Good to see Jason and his wife on this episode. John you are only missing Bob you know Bob's mart and Jason's buddy. Great work John love your work
Wow a new adventure, I hope it works out for them, it looks like a lot of work has been done and more yet to do. I wish them luck, and look forward to you showing their progress through your great channel. Thanks John keep doing what you do.
Good luck on carnivore! I’ve been on it since August 2023 ! Lost 30 pds super fast! Got off all meds! Was pre diabetic, no more bloating, it’s awesome!
Love watching your videos, I was born in the Midwest and live in Texas now, I enjoy your videos about the Appalachian’s and its stores and people 🤙🏽 keep on showcasing the region as I feel it’s not well understood
I absolutely love these old school places that you film. They are a treasure right here in my home state. I'm in west Tennessee an may never get to go there but it nice to see.
I recently retired and just traveling in my motorhome to see vintage places Ive missed during my working life. Definitely will make a visit there, take a picture by your mural, along with other attractions, kind of a bucket list destination. Coming from northern Illinois. See ya this summer 🌞
Beautiful store and great to see another one ,thank you John for sharing As always watching from south east Ireland and loving these videos. I get goose bumps when I see and hear the history
When you incorporate the modern laser scanning into the OLD Country Store purchasing you are Killing The Experience. I Am Glad To Report that we still have an old local retailer that still does business with paper and pencil. Preserving History means "PRESERVING" History!!!!!
Been a few places in Tn, due to having folk in Cleveland Tn. Did not truly know Rocky Top to be its own place ! Truly thought it to be the top of Lookout Mountain ?!!!Love Tn.So Cal in gal here..🌞🌳

I grew up on round steak, aka bologna. My mother would fry it until it was a bologna cup, and then she would put mashed potatoes in the center of the bologna cup and sprinkle the top with cheese. It was wonderful!! 😊
I grew up going to my grandparents house in Briceville and I use to live up behind the store so I’m so happy to see someone taking interest in the small town I have so many great memories there I’m thankful that the amusement park backed out they truly are some really good people there
My husband's great grandfather used to own the store when it was Phillips store. His name was Luther Phillips .My husband says he can still remember going through those double doors.
Thank you for the wonderful video. I absolutely love fried bologna sandwiches! Your sandwich has my mouth watering. I can’t wait to drive from my home in NW Indiana down to your beautiful state to enjoy all the wonderful people and great food and chill with you all. Much love ✌️😎👍
Guaranteed things you guys should sell that people will buy: homemade beef/venison jerky, totes made of recycled plastic bags, handmade gift cards, homemade cheeses, locally made pottery, flavored coffees, preferrably hand roasted. Brilliant idea to sell eggs and frozen local beef. Maybe also sell fresh veggies in season.
yes thats him and i also made a lot of videos with Doug and Jen that was on the Swap Shop also. That series of videos is called Pickers Paradise on my playlist.
John I’m picking up a 1930 John Deere wagon (now a Chuckwagon) from Jamestown and will be stopping at this store on April 13 for lunch on my way back to NC
I loved the Coal Creek Smokehouse when it was opened. Next time I’m in town I’m stopping here. I have a history here. My mother’s family is from there, they were Galloway, and Henson. She was born there in 1942 when it was Lake City. My grandmother was born there in 1914 when it as called Coal Creek. I spent a lot of my youth there and have fond memories of my great grandparents A.T. and Lillie Galloway. I’m glad to see this store is opened now. Looking forward to stopping in.
Awesome store, I wonder if they might put a protectant on the wood so it doesn't get ruined by the weather. Unless I missed him sayin something about it..
Are there two Rocky Top's in Tennessee? Because the song, 'Rocky Top, Tennessee' came out loooong before 2007. Soo I'm now confused. Nice store nonetheless.
Rocky Top was originally called Coal Creek and like the owner of the store said it was changed to Lake City. It was then changed to Rocky Top in 2013 with the idea to help the city economically. The song Rocky Top was written in Gatlinburg at the Gatlinburg Inn by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant in 1967. That Rocky Top is on Thunderhead mountain in the Smoky Mountains in Blount county close to Cades Cove. The House of Bryant Publishing and Museum in Gatlinburg owns the copyright and trademarks to the song Rocky Top. They tried to block Lake City from changing it's name to Rocky Top due to intellectual property rights. They eventually settled and Rocky Top businesses can only sell products with Rocky Top on it that help the city.
I live 10 miles north of Lake City ( Rocky Top). It’s good to see something new in that little town besides McDonald’s

You need a checker table, potbelly stove, and free coffee for the old guys to come and hang out. And talk town gossip.
Such a cool store! So surprised they aren't playing bluegrass music in the background. Tourists would LOVE it. And they need to sell rock candy in Rocky Top!
I agree!
You can see the passion and love this couple has for their business. What a great country store!
Thanks for comment and yes they have a passion for the store.

It is refreshing to see the prophets stay within the community and not go to China like all the cheap products at the dollar store. 🇺🇸
