      Fun fact: All of Barty's trophies came from easy draws......and then good players started coming out of the wood works and it seemed as if everyone was stepping up their game.
      Fernandez got tough along with Badosa, Andreescu, Racudanu etc. And let's not even talk about Iga Swiatek................................Barty knew there would be no more weak draws and her days as #1 were "numbered". Pun intended. So at the age of just 25, the coward retired.

    If Grand Slams are not part of the tour, why are they in the list of "Tournaments" in the WTA website?
    If Grands Slams are not part of the tour, why are points gained in the grand slams counted in the players' WTA rankings?

    • @NANICU
      @NANICU 8 месяцев назад

      Grand Slams are still tennis tournaments, just not run by the WTA/ATP. There are no laws against listing tournaments that do not belong to them on their website, just as listing Christmas and New Year's Day in a calendar doesn't mean the holidays belong to the publisher.
      Again, GSs are tennis tournaments which WTA and ATP players participate. These 2 organisations, which were set up by the players to protect their own interest, can be extremely petty by not awarding points or even banning players who play in GSs. But how does that fit in with their primary mission of improving the lot of the players if they do that?
      So yes, this is Barty's last match on the WTA tour, but not her last professional tennis match.
