Watching Conan speak with someone he definitely admires, with such joy and earned privilege, makes me wonder who might feel the same way talking with him decades from now. Can't say who or when that'll be, but for now, I thank Conan for sharing these legends with us today.
Some younger comedians who were influenced by his Late Night show have said as much to him. John Mulaney in particular has such admiration for him and growing up on his show. It's very sweet.

My favorite Bob Newhart performance is a sketch about a toupee, he did this with Dean Martin which Bob makes him laugh so hard he forgets his lines, makes the audience explode, and just explains why this man is a natural comedy genius.

Bob Newhart is the best. Old people come in all shapes in sizes, and in my experience generally don't have this caliber of wit or sense of humor. To no fault of their own mind you, but growing old isn't easy for most. I hope we all should grow old as gracefully and as sharp of mind as legends like Newhart and Rickles.

Coincidentally I watched Bob's previous appearance on Conan from about a year ago. He looks a little more drawn here, but still sounds lively. Even in his younger years, 'lively' would have been a stretch for Bob.

Also...we lived in a much better era back then. You could actually make a joke involving race or men & women or religion & not get called racist/chauvinist/anti-"insert religion". Modern American society is such a PC & censored society!
