6 months in training Muay Thai and I just recently did this by own design so to come across this video today feels amazingly timely and reinforces my efforts. 11 days ago I injured/fractured my big toe while sparring and I immediately felt that this will keep me from kicking at all for some time, maybe even 3 weeks. At first depressed because I was just about to solve the fine tuned mechanics of my kicks after probably one hundred hours of extra session bag work, but then I decided to purely focus on my 1-2 mechanics for the entire healing period. Since I couldnt attend class, I have come to the gym every day for now 10 days straight, working deliberately and corrective for 60-90 min ONLY on tightening up my basic punching mechanics. Others come to the gym while I’m already sweating shadow boxing only 1-2s and when they leave 45 mins later I’m still doing only 1-2s. On the bag, or with resistance bands or in the mirror. Probably they think Im nuts. I’ve also consistently filmed myself from different angles every day and studied as if watching another person. This boot camp or deliberate concentration of a single technique has really started to pay off and I reckon that by the time my toe is good to go again, my 1-2 will be night and day from before. I calculated that Im probably at around 4000 very deliberate and corrective reps at this point. Both on the jab and cross as isolated strikes as well as combined. The foot to hip to opposite leg to shoulder synchronization is getting more and more automatic. I always stayed after class and trained high reps solo in the gym before the injury, but it was never concentrated like this to a single technique. I did maybe 100 kicks each leg, 50 knees on bag, 100 1-2s some shadow boxing and 5-10 rounds on the bags. It improved me too, but I really feel that I will change that all encompassing solo session intermittently. Like one month like that, then one month boot camp on a single technique I want to master, then one moth with everything again, and then another boot camp. All this outside of regular class of course.

One of the things that has kept me from starting to practice muaythai from supposed coaches that only have fought kickboxing is the fact that i listened and read articles by Don Heatrick, I want to achieve the closest standard to perfection and i have always believed that the most basic of moves such as footwork and stance are paramount in any martial art, and thats why i am TERRIFIED of getting habits from trainers that do not place importance into these patterns. Coach Heatrick is by far someone who can teach and understand the fighter or anyone who wants to be a fighter. The repetions as he said are incredibly important, specially conscious ones since correcting bad habits is way more work that stablishing one from ground zero

I think it's similar to doing a leg-drive benchpress, the harder the legs push, the easier the weight lifted

It’s similar, and certainly how every fighter should practice a bench press - including a leg drive. Good call. :)

Why does my punch gets weaker if I pull my arm then punch but if straight I got more force and damage?

Are you talking about pulling your arm back, telegraphing your punch is coming, and swinging it in?
