So when the GH5 II was announced alongside the GH6, I knew the GH5 II was the ideal upgrade for me. While everyone was confused and laughing at the GH5 II, I read all the specs and actually appreciated it and bought 2 of them, as the GH6 is way too much camera for my needs. Highlights of the GH5 II for me? 50% brighter screen. No one talks about that (actually it's the identical LCD panel the GH6 has). Luminance spot meter, Vectorscope doesn't dissapear when adjusting white balance, much improved autofocus (usable now in casual situations), Focus Ring Control giving fly by wire lenses linear manual focusing like cinema lenses. See, the other brands would have forced me to buy a high end camera for those upgrades, but not Panasonic. Also, 4K60 internal 10 bit 4:2:0 finally as opposed to 8 bit. An improved Waveform monitor. Actually, the whole operating system on the GH5 II is pretty much from the S series cameras. VLOG-L built in of course. Slightly better IBIS performance (like the G9, actually, it's right there between the GH5 and GH6). Everything about the GH5 II is great. There are three features of the GH6 that I do like though. The ability to punch in to check focus while recording, up to 60fps. The 4K120. Dynamic range boost isn't all that for me but when enabled (it's automatic in photography), it gives probably about 2 stops better ISO performance. First, punch in for manual focus isn't critical. You can just use an on camera monitor. 2nd, I can shoot 1080p 120fps on the GH5 II then upscale with Video Enhance AI Proteus model to 4K. It's not as good as true 4K but it's perceptually close in most cases. Now, 1080p 120 is line skipped or pixel binned on the GH5 II while it is super sampled on the GH6. With that said, using the "Image Area of Video" option for a roughly 2.6x 2 megapixel 1:1 crop of the sensor eliminates that. Being a tad out of focus also eliminates moire artifacts, and then upscaling with Video Enhance AI will bring back the sharpness. I don't shoot much slow motion so this is a good solution for the occasional times I do. Finally, the GH5 II is pretty good in low light, but if you have to go to a higher ISO, it's nothing that Neat Video de-noising software can't fix. Lower your EV by a stop or even more in low light and shoot with a lower dynamic range profile like Flat or Natural. Most my shots are in good lighting though. Anyways, people over looked the GH5 II. I do like the GH6 (the price is excellent as well), but it's too much camera for me and I'd recommend the GH5 II to most people. You can use the cheap v30 SD cards and be able to enjoy all the features of the camera minus the 400mbps ALL-I 4K recording modes. I prefer the GH5 II overall :)
Gosh damn the GH6 looks almost as good as an S1H! I'll definitely be upgrading in the next few years. The portability of the lens choices for MFT is just unbeatable. It's so easy to bring anywhere it really encourages you to keep shooting which in turn makes you better and better.
You could upgrade your GH5 to a GH5-II and sell your GH5 to offset the financial hit. That will give you an upgrade to 4k60, VLOG L is included in the GH5-II by default, you get streaming capabilities and it uses the same BLK-22 batteries as the GH6.

So i was about to go purchase the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera 4 k bundle that comes with Davinci Resolve on Amazon, but it is now currently out of stock / unavailable. I know some basic and long ago film student experience with short films but now i really want to escape these dead end jobs and as i wrap up Mass Media Journalism major i want to start developing technical filmmaking skills and get better at storytelling. All that being said since im on a budget .. should i upgrade to a bundle i saw of this GH6 that has a mic the bag and lights instead of BMPC 4k camera? I heard this shoots in RAW as a option as well is this true? How flexible would this be for beginners looking to use this to start a freelance stock photography website and shooting and directing music videos and short film narratives to?? Any have any reels of great stuff theyve shot on this GH6?? Thanks for all guidance and answers
Im thinking of buying a camera but im confused can you please tell me🥲 I want to use it for videography, slow mo, timelapse, vlogs🥺 please give me some choices📷
Looks really nice, but I just switched from my Gh5 to the Sony A7SII and I couldn't be happier. The autofocus makes filming easier and I can concentrate more on composition and lighting. However, I think the GH6 is still a great camera.
did you say that the (SanDisk 64GB Extreme SDXC UHS-I Memory Card - 150MB/s, C10, U3, V30) work with 5.7 k .... how about the bit 10- 4.2.0 - / 4.2.2/ or..... Setting that it work? thank!
I recently got the gh6 and have used it a couple times so far but I'm getting static/noise in vlog, even during the day. Is this happening with anyone else? Some of the images I've seen from this thing are incredible, but this static/noise issue is driving me nuts. Some of the luts I've put on improve the images but some images are straight garbage. I knew exactly what to do with iso on my gh5 and its limits, but what's the deal here?
I am going to take your advise and not upgrade to the Gh6. I fought the focus problem on my GH5 for over 2 years, the past year my GH5 hasn't made it to my camera bag.
I hate the MFT look. I had Panasonic for a long time and and shot alot with GH5. Sharp images are not everything. I would go FF and get S1/S5 or Sony a7sIII
Here's a conspiracy for you. Sony makes Panasonic sensors. If m43 had a good auto focus, imagine how many cheaper m43 cameras would be made instead. Think of all that glass. From a profits perspective, its just more lucrative to sell Full Frame.

Im thinking of buying a camera but im confused can you please tell me🥲
I want to use it for videography, slow mo, timelapse, vlogs🥺 please give me some choices📷
Looks really nice, but I just switched from my Gh5 to the Sony A7SII and I couldn't be happier. The autofocus makes filming easier and I can concentrate more on composition and lighting. However, I think the GH6 is still a great camera.
I was under the impression you filmed in 24FPS? Now 60?
Great video! When will you upload your video about your GH6 settings?
did you say that the (SanDisk 64GB Extreme SDXC UHS-I Memory Card - 150MB/s, C10, U3, V30) work with 5.7 k .... how about the bit 10- 4.2.0 - / 4.2.2/ or..... Setting that it work? thank!
Do you use Dynamic Range Boost in 5.7K 60fps?
But it can't use 4TB card....Can U tell Panasonic.....PLZ
The battery thing is definitely dumb. I only have 3 GH5 batteries. But it's annoying that I have to buy more. and the new ones ain't cheap.
Are you by chance still thinking about a giveaway with your GH5?
5.7k looking real sharp. You try metabones on it yet?
V sharp eh! Not yet, doing a low light GH6 test with it this week
I am confused isn't the leica 12 60 not a constant f2.8?
Will keep my GH5s.
the GH6 AF isn't to bad. Some setting that can be changed
I was spoiled shooting on Sony last month haha, its just so insane on Sony, but yeah its gotten better for sure!
Does anyone know if the GH6 has a video feature like the EX Teleconvert feature that the GH5 had in video mode?
I thought the gh6 batteries did work in the gh5?
Can you do 5.7K 60fps in internal Prores?
What film festivals takes submissions video in 5.7K?
Not sure! The agency that hired me for the job submits my work to film festivals around the globe
I am going to take your advise and not upgrade to the Gh6. I fought the focus problem on my GH5 for over 2 years, the past year my GH5 hasn't made it to my camera bag.
Low light is substantially better than GH5, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised :)
Woohhhh lets go!
GH6 is awesome. Panasonic is synonymous to quality. Period.
this is awesome..
Thanks!!

CineD2 on S5 and GH6 looks waaay better than CineD on GH5. It’s way too yellow
Thought i noticed that also eh, thinking the firmware update might help I hope!
I hate the MFT look. I had Panasonic for a long time and and shot alot with GH5. Sharp images are not everything. I would go FF and get S1/S5 or Sony a7sIII
you use sd card>? why not mention the CF card cost stop white washing please
Here's a conspiracy for you. Sony makes Panasonic sensors. If m43 had a good auto focus, imagine how many cheaper m43 cameras would be made instead. Think of all that glass. From a profits perspective, its just more lucrative to sell Full Frame.
