  • The greatest navigational race in history was a race between enemies, Britain versus Napoleon’s France to circumnavigate and map New Holland (present day Australia). It was a race that would lead to the naming of Australia, produce a hero that would die before he was recognised and another who led what was described by an enemy as “the greatest scientific voyage in history” but who would be forgotten by history.
