As a mom of five going on six that's actually not a bad number. Especially because it looks like some of the kids are a little bit older you're not talking about 6 toddlers. You break it down it's less than $60 a week per person. That's not bad. You also have to remember that larger families are less likely to eat out so this grocery bill probably includes them eating at home more than your average American family

I'm a humble public servant. Instead of purchasing 200k property I purchased 100k in early 2020. 840 sq ft. ... Well under what I could comfortably afford. I took on a part-time job so I could make three times the mortgage payment. I have two payments left. Then it will be 30% of my take-home pay into retirement. I look way more poor than the folks in the show. But in reality I have a lot more disposable income. I long learned it's not the house you live in that matters it's how you spend your money. And I have the luxury of leasing a car so it's always updated. I long stopped being jealous because people live in bigger and nicer houses. That's okay.

My husband and I both got raises and he got a promotion and we recently bought our starter home, it's a new single wide mobile home but we paid less in a mortgage payment than we did when we rented a regular house, and have less bills and have a car that is paid off BUT with inflation we are back to still struggling even though we got in a slightly better situation.

When a system is set up for you have to put two and three times into it what you get out of it how can the cycle change from continuisly having to play catch up.
I just fed a family 9 for 2 weeks and it was hard but we made meals that would spread for a day or two like spaghetti with a green salad, Tuna Macaroni salad, and Beef soup. You have to be creative when feeding a large family. For the overall budget you have to cut back while increasing your income. One check only goes so far.

I'm one person making $2000 a month salary...$600 goes to food...$900 goes to rent and hydro/heat. The good thing is I got rid of my car back in 2019 before S.H.T.F.

I feed a family of 3 on about $200 groceries a month and I use WIC to help with some of the costs. It's all about buying the cheap brand and shopping at cheaper stores. This is the time we're living in. =(

I just only buy what I absolutely need: wearing the same clothes for the last 4 years, repairing blinds, shoes etc. I take public transport now instead of drive. I haven't eaten out in 4 years. I eat what is on sale not what I would prefer. Just starting going to the food pantry once or twice a month to cover food shortages. I take cold showers and kept lights off as much as possible and no ac...just a fan or two.

They might be combining all consumables into that $2,000 number. Think things you use up & replace…toilet paper, dog food, paper towels, shampoo, etc. at least that’s what I do to make budgeting easier. Still. I disagree. Between my boyfriend and I, we share two kids. In total we’re a family of four. Before COVID hit, we were living comfortably. Now we can’t afford the rent where we live. I recently quit my old retail job to pursue in the medical field and I hope we can be on our feet. I had the same mentality as you until I learned to be in other people’s shoes.

The older kids can work. Mom can get a part time job on weekends, nights, evenings. Working from home is a great way to make some extra money.
