    It's always interesting seeing how people care for cacti in other climates 🌵 I have a lil baby barrel cactus that I've had for years & before I was really into plants I went a reaaally long time without watering it. It was probably a year or so & this poor thing was still alive. They really are tough

    I keep mine in an unheated conservatory where it gets to 0 which is 32, quite often (UK) and they are fine, I think cacti are very cold tolerant as the desert freezes overnight. I agree with you on the watering though I hardly water them when it's that cold.

    Most helpful video I think just in general. Very new to growing, I live in southern USA Atlanta actually. I’m EXTREMELY poor, no car, bad hip so I can’t get around until they do my surgery. ANYWAYS the point being I use what I can get, and order through Etsy or eBay. But I’m worried to death I’m just buying them and sealing their fates. My fiancé couldn’t give two shits about my plants besides the money they cost. I love my cats but what if I was like hey fuck the cats who cares. Just give them unhealthy food and toilet water. Pretty sure there would be an all out war….. not that I would ever do that to my fur babies, but I just can’t get her into how awesome they are and I want them healthy too.many conflicting peoples opinions on RUclips. But you put my mind at ease, Particularly because you live somewhere so very cold compared to where I live. I think I got this! Also I’m subscribing

    Hey Fern! I live in the PNW as well (Oregon, USA) and wondering if you've had any issues with mold in your homes? I just moved to a new apartment a few months ago, and with the winter rain a ton of mold has formed on the windowsills and walls. I'm wondering if it's due to humidity caused by my houseplant jungle, or if it's just my new building. I was in Arizona before here so I've never dealt with this issue. Nervous about the owners coming in and beings like... wow haha, so just thought I'd reach out and see if you've have had any experience with this.
    Thanks for your vids! Love your channel!
    -Kate

    • @wildfern
      @wildfern  3 года назад

      Yes I have, but not from my plants, just from older houses in a moist climate being prone to this. If you have the heat on and just wipe it down with diluted bleach it should be manageable. We always have to wipe our windows out here too. Honestly it's pretty normal for the PNW as far as I know lol.

      @@wildfern Ok word thanks for letting me know! Your mention of the climate just triggered me to ask, but sorry if that seemed a bit random lol. If there's a plant that's harder for me to tell when to water because of spines or just cuz you can't tell (like a snake plant or some of my haworthias) I'll partner it with another plant or succulent that needs watering at about the same rate and water them at the same time. Cacti need a lot less water than succulents during winter, tho. I follow a page on FB and one of the members says he maybe waters his cacti once a month if at all!
