    Like other vultures, it is a scavenger, feeding mostly on the remains of dead animals. It usually disdains, however, the actual meat and lives on a diet that is typically 85-90% bone marrow. This is the only living bird species that specializes in feeding on marrow. The bearded vulture can swallow whole or bite through brittle bones up to the size of a lamb's femur and its powerful digestive system quickly dissolves even large pieces. The bearded vulture has learned to crack bones too large to be swallowed by carrying them in flight to a height of 50-150 m (160-490 ft) above the ground and then dropping them onto rocks below, which smashes them into smaller pieces and exposes the nutritious marrow. They can fly with bones up to 10 cm (3.9 in) in diameter and weighing over 4 kg (8.8 lb), or nearly equal to their own weight.

    Exceptional documentation of their bone-eating habits. This is the most striking vulture I have ever laid my eyes on. In Iran, there is the legend of Homa. Homa is the bearded vulture and considered to bring upon great luck and happiness to whoever it's shadow landed upon. If one was to kill Homa (the bearded vulture), they would meet their death within 40 days. I truly love this bird.

    Here after seeing my first ever Lammergeier here in the U.K. It is a juvenile which has spent a month or two in the Peak District National Park. It’s since headed East to Norfolk but is now passing through Peterborough . Incredible creature.

    Fun fact : the lammergeier got its name from the people who thought it hunted lambs. But the theory was never proved yes or no.

    • @silverdragon6869
      @silverdragon6869 День назад

      it doesn't hunt lambs. it eats primarily bones. it's a scavenger, not a hunter.

      This is misinformation and provides no evidence. Bearded vultures disdain meat and much prefer eating bones since that is where they get their nutrients in. They help clean up animal corpses that might also carry diseases and they do not eat live animals.
      People can be so cruel to animals sometimes that they have no idea just how much they play a role in this world.

      @@ShadowsGaloreTV I state in my videos it's not very good quality wise 🤷🏽. I'm looking back at it now, The music is what got me irritated (bad choice). I guess i wanted it to be more "educational" but it was just someone bird watching, recorded it & added some music basically
