Its often cheaper to get flight around the Wednesday before the race and the Wednesday after the race and stay in an air b and b. Love this review Kym as it is our dream when retired to follow each race for a year. Would love to see some reviews of the super expensive paddock club areas.
Perhaps if this old man wins the lottery, I could. Bucket list. Kim, for COTA, you can also fly into San Antonio, and stay in New Braunfels or San Marcos, just a local guy’s opinion.
Hi Kim! You are right in Mexico City you can expect to pay the same as any European city in food and accommodation on the higher end of the espectrum. If you want cheaper accommodation stay away from anything on Reforma. Hotels in the southern side of the city cheaper and you can be at the track in 30- 40 min without traffic.
Agree, we did the same with barcelona, booked direct with the track, buying general admission tickets (£120) and the following year they offered us buy one get one free on grandstand tickets. Plus we got into testing for free.
That was really interesting to see the variation in ticket prices. I last went to a GP 6 years ago, in Austin. I thought of going again this year but the tickets sold out fast even though a 3 day ticket was $500. The same ticket 6 years ago was $200, and I got to see Taylor Swift after quali, Usher after the race.
Great video! Check the Vegas hotel rates this weekend. With a big fight in town, they'll be high. Add another 10-25% to that, and that'll be about what it'll cost next year during the race. Unfortunately Vegas will be expensive, but fun.
Hi Kym. Before watching your video I did the exercise because I have some experience traveling to Formula One circuits. So we corresponded in everything except the price of food and car rental. Food gave me 4,000 euros a year and Car rental also gave me 4,000 euros since I prefer the comfort that free movement gives me at any time of the day or night. My total of the year was 26.000 euros. As usual huuuuuge hugs from Colombia
Great video Kym. I've been to Monza, Imola, and Austin. All three have been enjoyable experiences. However, Austin was a nightmare to get out of the track and back into the city (the uber line was around three hours wait). Imola was by far the easiest. We just trained it in from Bologna. But be careful, the trains getting out of Imola after the race were a madhouse. This year at Monza, we just trained it in from Verona, which was less than two hours.
I'd add maybe 25% extra to this estimate just to account for miscellaneous and unpredictable expenses. Even then, £18,000 is multi millionaire money in most countries besides western Europe and USA and Canada.
Occasionally they show camping sites at a few races. I would love to see a video about that and how it works. I’ve camped for nascar races and it’s by far cheaper then hotels.
Living in the US and going to the USGP used to only cost a couple thousand in total, with flights and grandstand tickets. One year later, with Miami and Vegas being added, I'm guessing attending a US race is no longer going to be a realistic option for a middle class family making 100-200k a year.
This was a cool breakdown! Loved it. A friend and I have mused about doing this for years. I can’t imagine we will ever have the $$$$$ to make it happen, but it is nice to dream.

And us Aussies can only dream of those air fare costs. We wish! Just back from Italy with a return fare of A$2200 from Perth. Sad thing is we were in Milan but zero GP tickets to be found even mths out. (Unless you purchase an experience). The Italians grab the tixs in a hurry. We did however do a magnificent tour of Imola. Such a wonderful experience not to be missed if your in the area. If lotto comes good this week ill put your info to good use in '23. Interesting vid, thank you.
Hi Kym. Thanks for such a wonderful video! Might I suggest flying to Nagoya from Singapore instead of Tokyo as you’ve said earlier, Nagoya is closer to Suzuka. I just looked up and found that there is a direct flight from Singapore to Nagoya direct! Maybe you would like to consider that instead of having to fly up to Tokyo and then heading south to Nagoya. Stay safe and have fun!
just do the European tour, much cheaper, way more fun and less abuse on the body from jet lag. Plus now there's more with France, Dutch and two in Italy. The Classic F1 feel
Great video! I can really imagine it took quite a while to make this video, really a appreciate the effort! Keep it up. It is a lot of money but honestly I thought it would be more expensive than that.
No reason to fly into Dallas or Houston and then rent a car to drive 3 hours to Austin. BA does a direct flight to Austin and I would highly recommend that.
I am from Hong Kong, someday I would like to go to Suzuka or Silverstone for race 9:49 Btw there is Chubu international airport, just the opposite of the prefecture of Suzuka, much closer to Nagoya
I don't think anyone will purchase a grand stand ticket for 360€ and then spend 750€ on bussines class. A 360€ grand stand ticket is better balanced with flying in economy. On the other hand, I think the meal prizes are quite off. If you have to eat at the circuit you will be spending a lot of money on meals.
Wow you did ALL this? Thanks! I once checked out accommodations for Monaco and soon realized my *friends* are ballers, not me, just used to tagging along.
07:38 You love Budapest because you don't have to be here every day and you stay at the most luxurious places. Also: everyone involved with F1 just doesn't say bad things about the places a race happens (it's a contractual thing). I live here, so I know what I'm talking about.
I dont know where u get the info on those tickets but dutch gp is wrong you say cheapest are about 150 pounds thats about 250 euros but the worst place to sit on Zandvoort already costs 850 euros. prices are ridiculous 2200 euros for a 3 day GS ticket.
This might be a big ask of you Kym, but would you be able to make a video explaining how much on average Formula 1 makes from fan attendance of each race? For example if there are 200,000 or 300,000 people showing up, with all of the differrnt ticket prices combined and how much revenue goes to Formula 1 or something like that??
Unfortunately modern GPs are designed to be viewed by a TV audience. So ... if you get a general admission ticket and cannot see a video screen on the other side of the track, you won't know what the heck is going on. Why has a car suddenly gone from 3rd to 13th? Did it spin, get a change of tires, etc. If you're a petrol head and are content to see cars going past making a lot of noise, then maybe general admission is OK. Otherwise, forget it.
I think F1 is more enjoyable on TV 😂.. my personal opinion is you should attend your favorite Grand Prix as it is a great experience, but not so much for watching the race.. I live in the US, spent $180 for a race ticket for Spa. You can get a plane ticket for around $600 to Brussels…entire 4-5 trip would probably be around $1,500.. that’s about the same you would pay for an overpriced ticket for a US race, where the atmosphere isn’t even as close as Europe.
If you going to all the races I would suggest to get slr camera and take pictures and you will get your money back or alternatively become a marshall this will save you a lot of money.
I don't know if you've done a segment on F1 superfans who attend all races. I know that UK broadcasters have mentioned some in the past. There's a gent who go by the name Moko, I think he's a jewelry designer who's famously attended all F1 races since 1979? That may have changed over the pandemic. There was also an older Brazilian couple who attended all the races (I think they had some involvement originally with the Brazilian GP). So, there are some people who actually do it. You definitely need deep pockets and a lot of time.
Well done kym very informative probably not man people will be doing this nice to dream though and jet lag would be crazy probably wouldn't know who or where you are at the end of all this

If you were to be successful in your career, retiring or taking a sabbatical to do this is certainly achievable, especially if you get some kind of inheritance or redundancy payout etc…
Excelent video!!! Where did drivers stay in the Miami Gp???
All over the place
I stopped watching after 4 races but thanks for the video Kym. Now I know what I have to do. Thank you so much.
I've been to two Grand Prix, Zandvoort and Brands Hatch, probably never go again as it's all to expensive for me. Did Le Mans three years in a row, but nowadays that seems expensive. That's why I got into GT3 racing, so much cheaper (for my budget).......but thanks Kym, as always a great video
Great video! Im attending all 24 races in 2024 and ill have to do a cost summary for my travel and tickets but from memory my tickets for races alone are going to be $40,000+AUD. Should be a once in a lifetime experience and can you really put a price on that hahaha!
Kim, assuming you use Amex, have you been invited to the centurion card yet on the basis of all of that travel/spend?
I don’t use AMEX, I use a Bankwest MasterCard With no 3% currency conversion fee
Thanks
just do the European tour, much cheaper, way more fun and less abuse on the body from jet lag. Plus now there's more with France, Dutch and two in Italy. The Classic F1 feel
Nobody's doing that lol.
With all the budget caps on the teams, I'm still waiting on ticket price caps for the fans :)
It’ll never happen
Thanks for this video Kym, bucket list for me and my father
Great video! I can really imagine it took quite a while to make this video, really a appreciate the effort! Keep it up.
It is a lot of money but honestly I thought it would be more expensive than that.
Thanks
Could you attach the Excel sheet that you did this on?
Very informative vid Kym, thanks!
Excellent info Kim, thanks
Hi Kym - awesome guide indeed thanks for the break down.
Solid content as always Kym!
What a great research and info!
Awesome video Kym as soon I I hit those 6 lotto numbers I’m jumping all in on this.👍👏
See you in the paddock then
@@KymIllman I will be looking for you.!!😂
Awesome info. Just monaco killed me 😅
No reason to fly into Dallas or Houston and then rent a car to drive 3 hours to Austin. BA does a direct flight to Austin and I would highly recommend that.
Do it.
Great video Kym 💛
Great video as usual Kym ! Really informative ! ( I spotted the Harp chair by Jorgen Hovelskov, huge fan :) )
Looks good, but I don’t think anyone’s ever sat in it
i am manifesting that i will get the paddock club pass next season in Melbourne 🤞
Awesome video 👍 when I win the lottery I'm definitely doing a year of F1
Kym this was a great watch. Thanks so much!! Know where l could afford to go to!!
Cheers
I am from Hong Kong, someday I would like to go to Suzuka or Silverstone for race
9:49 Btw there is Chubu international airport, just the opposite of the prefecture of Suzuka, much closer to Nagoya
I paid $350 for GA in Austin this year.
I love the topic of this video, as it's a damn sight cheaper, i do this with the Speedway GP championship and it's interesting to see this for f1
Singapore direct into Nagoya would be the best bet, I think it's daily with SIA.
See you on board
Great video - thank you
for imola regional trains from bologna are cheap and convenient
Hiya Kym, does F1 do an all race access ticket option?
All access Paddock club cost for the season would be scary 😮
Paddock club is like 10-12 thousand per race, times 22. Don't forget air fare.
Thanks man i love f1 have done for years now but never been to a single race
I don't think anyone will purchase a grand stand ticket for 360€ and then spend 750€ on bussines class. A 360€ grand stand ticket is better balanced with flying in economy.
On the other hand, I think the meal prizes are quite off. If you have to eat at the circuit you will be spending a lot of money on meals.
Wow you did ALL this? Thanks! I once checked out accommodations for Monaco and soon realized my *friends* are ballers, not me, just used to tagging along.
Great video!
You’re living in dreamland if you think you’re going to get some of those airfares. Even the economy fares will likely be 3-5 times those numbers.
07:38 You love Budapest because you don't have to be here every day and you stay at the most luxurious places. Also: everyone involved with F1 just doesn't say bad things about the places a race happens (it's a contractual thing).
I live here, so I know what I'm talking about.
Can only tell you what’s I see and all of F1 enjoys Budapest
@@KymIllman Understood.
Also: I don't require you to badmouth Hungary.
I dont know where u get the info on those tickets but dutch gp is wrong you say cheapest are about 150 pounds thats about 250 euros but the worst place to sit on Zandvoort already costs 850 euros. prices are ridiculous 2200 euros for a 3 day GS ticket.
It’s cheaper to fly to Bahrain than to go to the Miami GP down the street from my house 😂
Interesting to learn that one can be so passionate about F 1.
Not the sort of info I would know. That video might be best left to and expert In That area but thanks for the suggestion
@@KymIllman no worries mate 👍 they must be making big time though 😁
Well at Spa 2021, F1 ran a 2-lap race just so they wouldn't have to refund fans their money.
Another great video! Any chance you’d be interested in doing the same video for IndyCar?
I know nothing about that subject so it wouldn’t be much of a video
I think F1 is more enjoyable on TV 😂.. my personal opinion is you should attend your favorite Grand Prix as it is a great experience, but not so much for watching the race.. I live in the US, spent $180 for a race ticket for Spa. You can get a plane ticket for around $600 to Brussels…entire 4-5 trip would probably be around $1,500.. that’s about the same you would pay for an overpriced ticket for a US race, where the atmosphere isn’t even as close as Europe.
The only race I’ve ever paid to attend was the 1994 Indy 500. And I’ve Shot motor Sports all over the World! Nice to be an Accredited Shooter!! 😱😱
Time to hit the lottery, baby. I would love to do a Year of F1, but no bouncing back and forth to London. Keeping my eyes, fingers and toes crossed.
I know Moko and a Brazilian guy in a wheelchair.
Very insightful but if I was blind I'd be raging at this video. All the details provided in the voiceover aside from the actual costs!
Yep, definitely a video that needs to be viewed.
Kym, México its next to USA, which drives prices for the event, if gringos can pay, we keep pushing it up. 😶🌫️
And it’s heading that way
Really curious how much Mr. Illman spends during a season, must be close to the $100k mark with those trips to Aus.
Well done kym very informative probably not man people will be doing this nice to dream though and jet lag would be crazy probably wouldn't know who or where you are at the end of all this
If I won the lottery, this is item 1 on my to do list. Thanks for letting me know how much to budget.
I am usually good at guessing but both the low and the high ends seem more than fair. I am thinking $30K is way more than my needs, unless of course I get used to The Good Life and never leave Monaco.
wow my dream is to do this one day!!! go to at least 4 races back to back .
Thank you Kym. Your content is always so entertaining and I really want to go to Las Vegas next year. I live in the US so we currently have 2 Grand Prix in Miami and Austin with Las Vegas next year. I hope I get to go to a race as I am a huge F1 fan!
Ripper video mate
I’d love to know how much the mega opulent price would be
