  • I first built the core of this airboat 8 years ago before I got into flying. Prop was on backwards and the foamboard "hull" was horrible. Finally dug it out and dusted it off, made a proper hull from 6061, and gave it a go. Need to raise the transom and sides a few inches, and reprogram the steering servo for more travel, so next test should be more entertaining. There is so much potential!

I love this video, back in the 90s I built one with two electric motors and then I cut out the hull and put nine wheels on it. I might have to build another one and thanks for the inspiration !

Need to adjust the pitch of the engine to lift the back up 2 degrees or 3 degrees then change the prop to increase air flow the proper is pushing

Not so much issues of pull not pushing. Deck needs sealed so wash over doesnt Fill Hull. Bevel the sides from back to front so can Slide and Not HooK like when came ashore.
The motor weight is too fwd.
Lean your bottom needle a bit, should help it start.
The hull has large flat surface area , this creates lots of SuctioN to the waters surface to overcome.
Very Nice Cage n rudder setup, id like to see test where you shift that assembly back like the full scale airboat setup

Hull needs a step. That will help it get on plane.

Consider an electric conversion. Just imagine Reverse! , plus the weight.
My last was only 6.7 lbs with the battery installed.

That's I'm making one myself out of Aluminum just curious did you Champer your corners on the bottom of your hull in the aft? Because if not that will make your hull grab and catch while you are turning and if yo do the hull has a lifting affect in the stern and on the transom if you add a plate going aft on the fop edge it will also help control your stern wake from flooding the hull when you slow down one other thing you might want to think about adding some weight in the bow because the flatbottom hull is a high planing hull you get so much lift and with a little bow down when you power down the bow drops wich helps eliminate the stern wash from swamping the boat and it also helps with low speed maneuvering. But you did a hell of a job good work.
After looking at some of your videos I have to Add GO NAVY

I built mine out of 1.6 al , enclosed hull all tig welded up, in 1988 using a 1hp nitro engine. Still got the engine. Went 100x faster than um never mind

You said it. My camera operator/sidekick has had to witness all my mistakes. Near impossible to drive and film at the same time. Without my friend I would not even bother.
      God Bless my/Your friends!

Did you get a "Pusher Prop"? or is the prop still on backwards? If it's backwards and not a pusher prop then you'll never get the thrust the motor will actually produce and thats what it looked like in the video. I hope you get it worked out... looks like it would be a lot of fun.

It had the correct prop for the rotation. Just not enough power.

Go online and goggle airboat's and you will see what I mean about the stern with the deck plate and the chine of the hull on the stern because I don't think you'll need to raise freeboard of the hull.
